January Medicine Cat Meeting 2023

Burdockroot was the first one to arrive, so she plopped herself down next to the entrance. This time, the journey was a little longer. The chill hardly bothered her with her long and flowing fur, but she pulled her tails under her paws to avoid the freezing stone. It seemed like Nightstar brought them home just in time to avoid winter on these rocks. She was tired- it had been a struggle the past few sunrises. Even still, she did not take the traveling herbs. Cats less... capable.. than herself would need them more than her.

Plumleaf was the second medicine cat to arrive, which was surprising considering she was usually one of the last. It seemed that things in the forest were finally going back to normal. Skyclan was moving back into their camp, and although it would take work to repair the dens that had been neglected for so long, she was glad to be home.

”Hello!” She said cheerfully as she approached, greeting the Shadowclan medicine cat with a wide smile and sitting down beside her..

”How is everything in Shadowclan? Is Fuzzybelly feeling any better?” Fuzzybelly had been Plumleaf’s mentor during the short time Shadowclan had been staying in Skyclan’s camp, and she’d always been grateful for everything he taught her. It was disheartening to hear that he had fallen ill, and even though he wasn’t in attendance, she hoped his condition had improved. She had all but given up hope that Fogfeather would ever return, though she didn’t have the heart to break the news to the other medicine cats yet.

Burdockroot shook her head. "Not sure, he disappeared as well. I am alone in caring for the clan right now.... Did you think about what I asked you at the Gathering?" She replied in her flat tone, but intense stare. The prophecy had been mulled over so many times in her mind, she just wanted to solve it.

”The only cat I could think of was Dovefrost. He was my father, and he-” She broke off, grief welling up inside her as the memory she’d desperately tried to forget came rushing back. She swallowed, steeling herself, before continuing. ”He was found on the outskirts of our territory, though we never did find out who killed him.” Before she could say anymore, an unfamiliar face approached, introducing themselves as Sandyshell’s stand-in for the night. The warrior, Mallardstep, didn’t seem keen on going into detail, and Plumleaf wasn’t one to pry, so she simply gave him a friendly smile in greeting.

”I’m Plumleaf, it’s lovely to meet you.” But try as she might, she couldn’t hold back the burning curiosity Burdockroot’s question had unearthed.

”Has Starclan shown you something about Dovefrost's murder?” If so, why hadn’t they given the prophecy to Plumleaf instead?

Burdockroot took in the information silently to store it for later. She ignored the newcomer and continued her focus on Plumleaf. "Not sure, but that gives me something to go off- and you." With a nod, she stood up and followed the stranger to the Moonstone, pressing her nose against the rock.

Plumleaf followed the others into the cave, sitting beside the stone and closing her eyes. She didn't know what Starclan would share with her, but she could only hope for good news.

Batsong trailed a little behind her apprentice.  It did feel like theyw ere just up there, she had to agree with birchpaw.  This was not an area she wanted to return to so soon but at least it was for a better reason than the last time they had been chased out here.

She was exhausted. Between all the things that had happened she hadnt slept well in a long time and it was begining to take its toll.  She was glad that things in the other clans appeared to be doing decent at least... although the Sandy missing was a bit concerning especially in that the fill in made no attept at a reason as to if sandy was okay.

"yes, hope shes well.  Give her our best" she nodded quietly agreeing with her apprentice but would push the matter no further.  Riverclans business was that of their own.  If they needed help they could ask but it wasnt Batsongs job to get involved with it.  She had enough to deal with and try to keep her head above water with her own tasks as it was.

She was grateful that the others agreed to start soon after very ready for some good sleep....  She knew she really should talk to Burdockroot later about all that had happened betewen their two clans but right now she was so tired, a sleep was very much welcoming... she just hoped it would be a good dream for once in her career.
