Whispear hadn't been successful, but they still had prey to bring back. With the oncoming colder seasons ahead prey was only going to become more scarce, but it wasn't like the rest of Windclan caught everything they went after, either. Brackenwing was glad she'd managed to catch this rabbit, though she was far from the best hunter in Windclan.
On the bright side, Whisperear had caught the hawk, right? A hint of a wry smile flashed across her face as she regarded her clanmate. "You'll find something. Even the hawk has uses," She mewed, and then turned, scanning the moors for more signs of life. "I hate that it's getting colder, we won't be able to stay out here as long."

Whisperear
Whisperear nodded and a shiver ran down their spine as they felt the chilly breeze blow through the plains. Their gaze searched as well, spotting some other rabbits starting to poke out of their dens now that Whisperear was not right on top of them. “It will be strange to see snow again. I haven’t seen snow since I was a kit.” That had been a long winter, too. Sometimes Whisperear still dreamed of those days where the ground was nothing but bright white. It made them wonder how they’ll feel when it actually snows.
Taking a deep breath, Whisperear began to move back down towards the rabbits. Fatigue ached in their bones, but they forced themselves to go slower anyway. When they finally edged close enough, they took off and launched at one of the rabbits that had taken to eating some weeds. They managed to land on it this time and bit down on its neck. It was dead in an instant and Whisperear felt a bit dizzy with surprise at how smoothly it had gone that time. Their body screamed at them due to the exhaustion and they knew that they wouldn’t feel up for staying out any later.

"I don't remember it that well," Brackenwing admitted. She'd been born in leafbare too of course, but playing in the snow had been some of the furthest things from her mind even then, when living shadows had prowled around camp. A shiver made its' way down her spine at the thought. Whisperear had caught scent of more prey, and Brackenwing was happy to stay quiet and out of the way.
"Nice catch," She mewed, though watching Whisperear, she got the distinct sense that her clanmate was off. The fight had taken energy, of course, but sometimes she got the sense it was deeper than that. Still, it wasn't her place to comment on it or put her friend on the spot. Beyond the flicker of concern in her green eyes, she made no outward show of noticing.
"That hawk is going to be more than enough to carry without adding more prey than what we have, I think." She said softly, glancing at where it had been stashed.

Whisperear
Through heavy pants, Whisperear set down the caught rabbit on the ground. They were quietly relieved at the silent gesture from Brackenwing to end their patrol. Whisperear nodded. “I agreed. I’ll be able to carry the hawk on my back, if you think you can manage two rabbits.”
Together they dug up their catches. Whisperear needed help from Brackenwing to sling the limp bird onto their back, but then it was secured, with part of its wing in their jaw to keep it balanced. They waited for Brackenwing to get secured with her own pieces of prey, and then they meowed through the feathers in their jaw, “Let’s head back. We’ll need to find the time to pluck this hawk too.”
