cheer up kiddo [c]

Scorchtalon strutted into camp as the sun was reaching its peak, feeling energized and refreshed after his morning hunt. It may have been a little more than a hunt, but he'd brought back prey at least. He dropped all but one of the hares he'd caught into the fresh-kill pile, carrying the last one over to the nursery. It had been a good while since he'd brought Featherkit back to Windclan's camp, after finding the kit injured and scared; her only family succumb to the jaws of a vicious dog. She seemed to have settled in well, but Scorchtalon felt a bit guilty for not being able to spend more time with her. Well, that was about to change today. Setting the hare down in front of the nursery, Scorchtalon poked his head in, looking for Featherkit.

"Featherkit? You in here?"

Featherkit looked up from her resting spot, eyes heavy. She had been taking a nap a little while ago, and had only recently woken up. Hearing her name, she sat up and stretched, before turning to her probably savior. Scorchtalon was a large ginger tom, and looked next to nothing like her, but he was one of the only cats she trusted, and the young she-kit practically pounced on him.
“Hello!” she replied happily, grinning up at him. It wasn’t until then that she registered the scent of rabbit. Ears perking up, she looked at the tantalizing rabbit, and heard her stomach give a low growl.
“Is. . . Is that for me?”

"Yep, freshly caught!" Scorchtalon replied, purring with amusement at the sound of Featherkit's rumbling stomach. He gently nudged the prey toward her before sitting down and laying his tail over his paws. His own stomach growled a bit at the scent of the food, but he'd pick something for himself later, once the kits and elders had been fed.

"So how've you been, kid?" Featherkit seemed to be adjusting well to clan-life, but he wanted to check up on her nonetheless, and make sure she knew that he would be here for her if she ever needed him.

Featherkit grinned up at the tom, silently thanking him for the meal, before taking a bite, and then, remembering her manners, asked him
“Do you want some?” She then laid there for a moment, before taking another, smaller bite, gazing around camp as she did so. After Scorchtalon asked about how she was, Featherkit took a moment to think. Truth to be told, she was doing pretty well here. The other cats seemed to accept her, and she was fine with not having a mother; The cat next to her seemed to be doing just fine as a parent.
“I’m not doing too badly.” She replied, pausing for a moment, before thanking him for.. well, the food, saving her, bringing her here, taking care of her, and in general just being awesome.
“Thanks.”
