Faded Hope [Thunderclan Finale]

Softfall emerged from the med den still a big gash on his shoulder as he limped slightly.

Owl from riverclan had hurt him badly but he wasnt about to be sidelined for such an imporatnt battle when his clan needed him... this was about thunderclan freeing themselves from the ghosts that had been tormenting them far too long.

He sneared as he saw Brokencreek nearby...

"time for you to return to wherever it is you come from" he growled leaping at the dead enemy.  Starclan was back and it was time to take these pretenders out.  Thunderclan needed to be strong and they couldnt do that with constant threats from the dark forest.  

It was true, Morningstar had given them land to hunt on ... altough softfall had no idea as to why he also didnt trust the dark forest leader at all given that the next week he had killed a thunderclan warrior for seemingly no reason... Softfall wasnt against working with shady characters but he had no use for those who would hurt thunderclan or stand in its way to becoming the top clan of the forest... and Morningstar was an unrelaiable ally and the only thing worse than an enemy in softfalls mind was someone unpredictable which is what morningstar had proven to become... Riverclan would have to wait. The more immediate threat and danger was ridding the forest of these unnatural freaks that had held them hostage far too long under a cloak of darkness and opression that would not soon be forgotten or forgiven.  He noticed a short ways away Mornings body lay cold on the ground... this made him all the more angry at these monster cats and he vowed revenge for his fallen clanmate.

"HA! You dark forest cats are fools! You really belived I killed my own sisters??! I am not like you I will never fall to your level!" he growled as he launched himself at Brokencreek.

A part of self doubt whispered in his ear... But you already ARE like them softfall... dont you remember beaverpaw??  He tried to forget it but never could ... he had wished so much that things had not happened like that.  That he had just run away from that gathering instead of letting his anger control him... there was nothing he could do to change the past but right now he was going to use that anger and rage and take out any one of these dark forest cats.

"You truly are the lowest of the low.  Even riverclan deserves a higher amount of respect than you freaks.  I will make you pay for every clanmate of mine you have hurt and killed.

Mintpool felt a chill go up her spine. But she knew this was coming… didn’t she? Or something like it. What passed for Gatherings in the time of no stars felt eerily still — usually. She had sat herself near the apprentice’s den, wanting to be near her littermates, but then the sky shimmered.

And everything changed.

Like a spark, like something she knew was going to happen. But even she froze in confusion as Morningsun fell the ground, suddenly… lifeless. No. Why? A moment later, she saw an elder… prone and still as well. Like death.

A bolt of fear hit her. The Dark Forest? But then she heard Pebble’s voice from beside her — in surprise and wonder — and glimpsed her mom’s fur. And she… she needed to be near them. Right. There’s no way our Dark Forest ‘clanmates’ will be happy about this… dying clanmates or not. And I need to protect them. Shifting nearer her brother, Mintpool brushed his pelt with her own, and fiercely scanned for Flurry as well. Under the soft light of the moon and stars, she thought of Breezekit. I thought he might be lost forever… It made her steadier, more like steel, as she leaned down to tell her living brother, “We should be careful. I feel uneasy about this.”

But then the tall young warrior rose to her full height, green eyes flicking warily about the crowd — and they landed on Smokefang. Eerie. Dangerous. She was close by; nearly a cat’s length.

And her back was to Mintpool… misty and shadowed, but nonetheless real.

Mintpool couldn’t say why, exactly, she felt her muscles tensing and coiling in that moment. But Mintpool had known it would come to this — known it, perhaps, since that fawn-furred molly hissed warnings in her ear — and she saw the fury in Smokefang’s eye, not a second before. I have lived with her. And a memory came to Mintpool, of Stoatstar and her first training in Thunderclan, and cutting off the heads of serpents. (Before they ate you.)

And as she did, Mintpool knew, if she were to do this... I can’t let her strike first.

It had been her first lesson.

The milling of cats created almost a sense of quiet. And so, fluid and almost still behind the Dark Forest molly, she struck.

Mintpool attacks Smokefang, immediately trying for a Leap-and-Hold. It’s a success! Mintpool deals 8 damage and will pin Smokefang for 2 turns. (Note: Mint fights w/ RC passive/special move.)

Sparrowtail heaved a great, shuddering sigh. He was almost growing used to this now, life back in the forest. It was almost as if he hadn't spent those many seasons wallowing in filth, so many that he'd stopped counting after they exceeded how long he'd been alive in the first place. Of course, the thought still soured his heart, but that was behind him now. StarClan was dead! And he'd have all the time in the world to enjoy the forest as he should've been able to. Though the living, they whispered.

He almost fell asleep while they gathered beneath the full moon. Perhaps an old habit, even if it served no purpose now. Maybe later on, when the power of the Dark Forest had a more stable hold, he'd suggest that they allow the clans to meet once more. After all, the meager amount of information could be useful. Albeit rarely. But why was there fresh death on the wind? Sparrowtail raised his head in confusion, and like those unbloodied, he too raised his gaze to the heavens. His heart dropped. And burst into flame.

"These…These cowards!” He let out a loud snarl, whipping his head about to see the young warrior Morningsun and older than dirt elder Dustcloud very clearly dead. Yet why were some of these cats unsurprised? The elder was expected at some point - although perhaps not while she was awake - but the other such a young cat? He had a bad feeling about this. But instead of sorrow, or fear, he felt fury. “When has StarClan ever done anything worthwhile for you lot? You don’t even know the bastards you’re dying for. They can’t even fight their own battles, now they want you to die for them too? They have no power to help you and rarely send any message worth listening to.” His tail lashed. Perhaps it was panic, when he’d denounced StarClan before his death. He’d regretted it for a long time in that dark place. But now, now! His mind had borne fruit, ripening and fermenting until it was far more than that. StarClan was a cesspool of hypocrisy and nepotism. Humming like flies in medicine cats’ ears, telling them their little winding half-truths. Some of those among his ranks he wouldn't trust a tree-length away, yes, but had he earned the punishment of knowing them? Worse cats filled StarClan's ranks than he. Sparrowtail’s throat drippled thick blood as he growled towards a materializing, star-furred cat. “Our eternities are undeserved. Prove your right to exist.”

Thornjaw stepped menacingly out of the shadows, eyes daring the clan cats and the newly arrived starry ones to make a move towards him. Sparrowtail had said everything he would have, and Thornjaw wasn't a particularly wordy tom.... So instead he prepared himself for battle.

Darkpaw didn't expect anyone to approach him, but when his brother Eveningpaw did, it was not unwelcome. "Thanks." He said simply. "I know you mean well, I appreciate it, but talking has done and will do nothing. I'd rather not burden anyone else with my worthless emotions." His tail flicked and his mood soured even more. The events that happened next unfolded quickly and he stared in wide-eyed shock as his clanmates began to die. Stars had appeared in the sky a moment later... and Darkpaw's wide-eyed stare hardened and narrowed into a deep, burning resentment.

"You show up now? After so much time? You kill more clanmates before you can make an appearance?" He growled at the sky, then hissed at the appearance of Starclan cats in Thunderclan camp. He wouldn't ally himself with the Dark Forest, but he had no love for Starclan. If he was still conscious after this, he'd whirl on them and drive them out of camp too.

He bolted toward Thornjaw and leaped, determined to do some kind of damage. At the very least, he was finally able to do something.

As fur brushed against him, Pebblepaw turned to see Mintpool had stepped up beside him, and he nodded at her. Even through the relief of seeing the night sky be once again lit by the fires of their ancestors, he could sense it too-- the uneasy prickle of something more to come. Before he could even exhale his next breath, Mintpool leapt from his side onto the back of the nearest Dark Forest cat and pinned her to the ground.
The camp around him burst into sounds of battle-- yowling and screeching and hissing as his clanmates began to strike at their oppressors before they could even raise a ghostly paw. Pebblepaw sucked in a deep breath and looked around wildly. He knew Mintpool could handle herself in a battle, but where was Flurrypaw? Two apprentices stood a better chance together than apart. Through the tangle of pelts as cats began to attack one another, he caught sight of his mother, looking apprehensive and lost.
“Ma!” He called out as he bounded over to her, tottering one way before sharply correcting to the other, skidding to a near perfect halt as he reached Clouddream’s side. “Don’t worry, I’ll watch your flank!” He meowed with a voice full of determination. In the back of his mind, he remembered the battle training sessions he had with Stoatstar and consciously shifted his weight onto his back paws. With StarClan and ThunderClan behind him, he felt-- no, he knew he was ready for this.

Brokencreek scoffed at Softfall’s loud announcement. He’d scarcely spoken with the leader’s son, but he didn’t care for him all the while. His opinion fell even lower once he lunged at Brokencreek. He spat, “We did not kill your precious Morningsun. Do you even have eyes? StarClan killed your clanmate, not us. We did not raise a claw against him.”

He ran forward, feinting and then smashing against Softfall’s side. He growled, “You are a fool for going against the Dark Forest. We’ll take your sorry clan down and build it up anew!” He stood tall and glared. "You are just like us, Softfall. Dark Forest knows of your crimes against RiverClan."

Brokencreek used Dishonorable Charge, dealing 12 (10 + 2) damage and costing 20 SP. Softfall is stunned for 1 turn, thanks to Stormy Strength!

Softfall had the wind knocked out of him as Brokencreek attacked. Something gave these monsters incredible speed and power!

The charge at him sent a shock of dread and sadness though him and sapped his energy as Brokencreek attacked.  It was unnatural and Softfall went slightly limp from it his head spinning... they were so strong! Was thunderclan destened to lose this battle? How could they defeat so much hate and evil here?

It seemed like this battle would be over before it even started but he had to at least try.  These dark cats had drug him down to his lowest instincts the past couple of moons and he was tired of living in his own muck of sin and shame.  he would die for his clan if he had to.

Then Brokencreek said something he didnt expect... Starclan had killed Morningsun... well yes that was technically true but it was only because the dark forest had been trying to take control of the whole forest that the sacrifice had to be made... Morningsun had died for thunderclan and softfall was not about to let this dark entity make anything less of Mornings heroism.

"Keep Morningsuns name out your filthy mouth!" He growled as the stun was still heavy over him all he could do now was say angry things his vision still blured from the solid hit the enemy tom had delivered.

"He was better than both of us will ever be!" he retored...

Brokencreek then spoke of his crimes against riverclan and how he had killed Beaverpaw... an action that haunted him and that he regreted so much.  He winced slightly his eyes showing pain and regret.

"...Im nothing like you! I did what I thought was best for my clan... you just do this for fun" he challanged.

The stun was finally wearing off and he stopped wobbling so much and got into a defensive postion... if he was going down he would take this enemy tom down with him... or at least deal some damage he hoped.

Softfall cant attack this turn because he is stunned.... He is no longer stunned now though. After this post

Darkpaw exploded away from him, flinging himself towards a Dark Forest cat, and Eveningpaw immediately turned his gaze towards another bloody pelt to get in on the action. Cats were dropping like flies, his Clanmates, for the good of ThunderClan and StarClan. For a fleeting moment, Eveningpaw's throat seized up in panic; what if StarClan had planned all of this all along? And taking good warriors away...

Maybe Darkpaw was right.

With a snarl fit for a cat much older than he, Eveningpaw leapt at the closest bloody mess he could find, sinking his claws into the gory flesh.

Clouddream was just beginning to collect herself when she felt her son's presence near her. She turned her head and smiled at her son. "It's okay, Pebble. I can protect you now." She lifted her tail, brushing it over the tom's back. "I'm not so, so weak anymore. We can prove ourselves to our clan, okay?" She pressed her muzzle to the creamy tom's forehead and glanced around, but she couldn't see anyone to attack through all the chaos.

"I'll be okay." She assured Pebblepaw. Her voice was very low, many cats wouldn't of been able to hear her normally, but she knew Pebblepaw could. His ears has always been listening, so why had she always seen such a horrible cat in him?

Clouddream is open for being attacked

Brokencreek laughed in Softfall’s face at his attempt to be heroic. “I do this to make the clan great,” he sneered. “I don’t care what clan it is, so long as cats prosper and I don’t have to live in that awful Dark Forest. We killed those that threatened our way of life.” He stalked forward. “You, though? You kill and attack RiverClan cats because of what clan they’re from. Do you think that apprentice was the reason you didn’t have Sunningrocks? Or the reason some of your clanmates died in a dispute before you were even born? Or what about the other apprentices you attacked, like the apprentice of that deputy that came storming in here? You’ve caused nothing but trouble for RiverClan and ThunderClan—and you have the gall to claim that we’re the monsters?”

He sprinted forward, locking his jaws onto Softfall’s shoulder and biting down hard. This cat was a major thorn in everyone’s side. He’d be happy to get rid of it for good. While he bit, he hissed quieter, "I hope when you die, you end up in the Dark Forest too."
