a friendly spar

The snow was cold and soft, and Shypaw didn't want to get up yet. But when Deerpaw cuffed her flank, Shypaw rolled over, her eyes glimmering despite her exhaustion. "You fought really well," she meowed softly. She lay on her back for a moment before getting to her paws and shaking out her fur from ears to tail. There were small dots of blood on her tail, barely visible even in Shypaw's crisp white fur, not worth worrying about. "Are you okay?" she asked shakily. That spar had been intense and Shypaw was a little worried about the younger apprentice.

Deerpaw was relieved that she had not hurt Shypaw anymore than she already had, but she noticed the small beads of blood along the stem of her tail. guiltily, she bowed her head and nodded. "A-are you ok? Does it hurt?" she stammered, small tears coming to the corner of her round amber eyes. did Shypaw hate her now? What had she done?

Shypaw nodded emphatically, she licked the dots of blood from her tail and none welled up in their place and she waved her tail as if in proof. A jolt ran through her at the tears forming in Deerpaw's amber eyes. Surprisingly to the quiet white she-cat a soft purr rose in her throat in reassurance, and she bumped Deerpaw's shoulder with a gentle smile. She knew tiredness and guilt were gnawing at all of them, despite the asset that the uninjured young cats were. Deerpaw seemed to feel it badly. 

At the permission of their mentors, the group turned back for the thorny hollow. The adrenaline had left Shypaw more tired than before, and her little pink mouth opened in a wide yawn at the thought of their nests in the warmth of the apprentices' den, her eyes already wanting to close. The light soft purr continued as she walked side-by-side with the other white apprentice out of the grove of pines and out across the frozen marsh.
