Shadow of a Spar

Sootpaw waited patiently just a little ways out of camp. Nothing to far that was a cause for concern. Today he wanted to spar. He wanted to get better at battling, and we'll this was the only way to do it. Of course he would have preferred someone he was closer to, but Rowanpaw was the first he saw and well.. he felt it couldn't wait. Hopefully Rowanpaw would help him learn to be a better fighter. The deputy's son would have some decent knowledge right?

A spar with an older apprentice! This was exactly what Rowanpaw needed. When Sootpaw asked him to join, the shaggy apprentice made no attempts at hiding his excitement, leaping to his paws in an instant. He would get to learn something useful. And hopefully Sootpaw was smart enough not to use claws... the thought of collecting scars on his face made him cringe. Ducking out of camp in pursuit of the darker tom, Rowanpaw braced his paws against the earth, tail curled and waving slightly. "I might as well let you go first, hm? I'll give you the advantage. I don't want you to be too sore afterwards, after all." Rowanpaw said it with a giggle, eyes sparkling. Nevermind the fact he hadn't learned an ounce of battle training yet and didn't want to send himself careening through the sand and mud. He was just being polite, that was all.

Sootpaw didn't know what to think of Rowanpaw's words. His frown turned into something of a smile, as he readied himself. "Alright then, but don't get too surprised when things don't go as you expect." He said to the other tom. "Let's go!" After that the older tom leapt at the other tackling him to the ground.
