recovery takes time-- and some food too

Deerpaw padded behind Nightstalker, her pawsteps muffled by the snow. her paws felt like freezing off and her short fur didn't help either. and it definitely did not help the apprentice that she had gone for a patrol the night before either. ever since the battle, the she-cats energy had been low, since she was participating in almost every patrol in the clan, day and night, snow or sun.

Sootpaw was walking beside her, and in that moment Deerpaw was glad that he was her friend. He was one of the few that constantly made her eat something everyday to keep her energy high. she looked around at the snowy pine, devoid of life. her spine tingled at the thought that with the lack of cover over them any second now an owl or hawk could swoop down and make crow-food out of them.

Swiftheart walked along with their patrol, it was quite the good group they had. Cicadashriek , Nightstalker, Deerpaw, Scootpaw and herself.

With any luck they would catch quite a bit with this many hunters and none too soon. Shadowclan needed all the food they could get right now.  

The forest did seem quite though and no prey could be heard or seen right off the start but she was determined to find anything.

Moving along she smelled the best she could around for food.  A faint scent registered and she followed it best she could until she saw a little rodent traveling through the snow, it was easily spotible its fur sticking out against the white background. She grinned as she dropped into the hunters crouch and stalked towards it.

The rodent scurried away quickly disappearing into its den beneath ground.... Swiftheart was confused... she had been so careful... what had scared it away?

Thats when she spotted a flash of orange flash by... Cicadashriek ? Had he accidently scared it off?

Then she realized what it actually was but at that time it was too late.  The scent of fox filled her nose and she had flashbacks to the last time this had happened...

She saw the predator and backed away best she could. But then she thought of the apprentices out on patrol with her... she was the only one standing between this hungry fox and them so instead she squinted her eyes and hissed at it and charged leaping at it

Swiftheart used Jumping strike dealing (8 base)+3 bonus+1 night passive = 12 dmg and costing 7 sp

The fox winced in pain but quickly recovered, it grabbed her scruff in its powerful jaws shaking.

Fox used Thrash on Swiftheart dealing 10 dmg and costing 15 sp

She screamed a bit panicked uhhh guys?? we have an issue she yelled for her clanmates attention and help

Like Swiftheart, Deerpaw had spotted the rodent but allowed Swiftheart to get it. there would be other chances of catching something. Suddenly, ginger flashed in the shadows and the apprentice screamed, "Swiftheart! Watch out!" but her warning came too late as the fox attacked her mentor. hissing, Deerpaw ran forward and gripped the creature's tail in her jaws, yanking with all her might.

Sootpaw had been trotting determinedly through the snow, his hunger sharpening his drive to bring back food for the clan, when he heard Swiftheart's cry. The rank stench alerted him before he caught a glimpse of a bushy black and orange tail as the creature barreled toward the she-cat. With a furious hiss, he launched himself at the fox, slashing his claws across it's long muzzle. Thankfully, the animal was already stunned, it wouldn't stand a chance against a patrol the size of theirs. He didn't even want to consider what could've happened if he'd encountered the fierce animal alone.

Frustration surged under Nightstalkers pelt, alongside anger as he saw his sister launch after a fox. For Starclans sake! Could no one catch a break? Huffing angrily, Nightstalker wasted no time in launching himself at the fox. Rearing back up onto his paws, Nightstalker lashed furiously and strongly at the foxes face, wishing so desperately for it to just run off into the underbrush.

Cicadashriek wasn't a huge fan of the fact Nightstalker had been elected to lead first. Sure, Swiftheart was his sibling, but he was the first warrior to join the patrol. Wouldn't make sense for him to lead? What did Nightstalker have that he didn't that made the other tom such an obvious choice? He kept his grumblings internal, food was more important than petty squabbles like this, but thoughts still pecked at the back of his head.

He lifted his head, attempting to catch the scent of prey only to be caught off-guard by a much more alarming scent. Fox? His hackles raised, the sound of his clanmate's distress reaching his ears. They weren't the only ones hungry this leafbare. "Hold on!" He called, rushing forward on stiff limbs. They weren't on board with fighting again this early, but he could let them rest later.

With a hiss, he reared up on his back paws, raking his claws down the creature's flank multiple times over. He didn't want this fight to last long.

Cicadashriek used Front Paw Strike with Desperate blows, costing 14 SP and dealing 13 Damage! (+1 Night Finese)

Swiftheart was relived to see the whole patrol had rushed in to help her one by one they all tore into the fox very quickly overwhelming it. The fox screeched in pain as it was overwealmed by cats clawing at it and stunning it from every direction... the hunter had become the hunted.  Such things happened in harsh season.

Swifthearts mind was still on protecting herself and her clanmates first and foremost.  She saw an opening leading to the foxes neck and she went for it as fast as she could jaws opened wide she bit as hard as she could into the fox until she could feel its struggles get weaker and weaker.

Swiftheart used snap!

Fox is ko and falls to the forest floor defeated!

Breathing heavily she watched the monster drop to her paws... she never enjoyed taking life... even that of a foxes but she would do it again in an instant if it meant keeping her clan safe. The thought of this fox getting away and hurting one of the apprentices or even catching a warrior off gaurd on a solo was not something she needed.

she licked at her wounds... they were not that bad she convinced herself as she cleaned herself up.

She looked at each of her clanmates grinning softly Thanks guys... she said in a purr.

I owe you all she chuckled slightly

Deerpaw signed in relief as the fox fell limp on the snow. None of them were in suitable conditions to fight another battle. “Are you ok, Swiftheart? That wound looks pretty bad,” she asked, giving the raw wound a few gentle licks. “Maybe you could go back to camp and rest. We can complete the patrol without you,” she suggested. Deerpaw didn’t want her mentor to get hurt any more than she already had, even though it would hurt Swiftheart’s pride.

Swiftheart considered her apprentices words and advice carefully and thought for a little while.

No I think I will be okay... really she licked at her wounds again trying to stop the bleeding and prevent her white fur from staining all over.

Shadowclan needs food now more than ever, I cant let a couple scratches slow me down. Im good trust me she said with a grin. She did not want to be sent back to camp and feel like she had returned with nothing to show for.

She gave a quick glance to Nightstlaker the patrol lead wondering if he would object to this... she supposed if he did she would go back, but she really considered herself to be fine.

“If you say so…” she murmured, her attention caught by a shuffle in the brambles. She crouched and stalked slowly forward. Swiftheart was right, they needed prey, especially with the new litter of kits.

She leaped and landed promptly on a fat rat almost as large as her. It must have come from the carrion place. She happily killed off the rat and showed it to her mentor. If they were lucky, they could find a nest!
