The time of day is afternoon and temperature is chilly. There is a light dusting of snow all over the ground and the pine trees, no deeper than mid-foreleg at it's deepest points for full grown cats. Various tracks cover the ground of many prey types, mainly birds and squirrels. There is the occasional fox track as well. In some places, the snow has been flattened beyond leaving a recognizable track. A steady late leaf-fall wind blows through the trees and across the snow, carrying scents away and covering some of the more shallow tracks, making tracking moderately difficult.
The Patrol Tier 5: Primroselight Tier 4: None Tier 3: Oliverain and Newtspring Tier 2: Orchidmask and Bearflower Tier 1: Rabbitchaser and Beechfang Apprentice: Hailpaw, Hollypaw, Lionpaw and Dreamypaw
Medicine Cat: None Medicine Cat Apprentice: None
Bloodstar stared at the warriors and apprentices that had gathered, taking note of each and every one of them who chose to pursue the dangerous prey. Primroselight was by far the most experienced warrior in the patrol, but he had a fair amount of trust in Oliverain and Newtspring as well. The others... the others were fine warriors and enthusiastic apprentices, but at the end of the day he felt that they were untested. This would be a good opportunity for them all to prove themselves among more experienced and respected warriors of Skyclan. If nothing else, they should feel honored to have this opportunity. Bloodstar licked at his exposed fangs once before he opened his mouth to speak.
"Primroselight, you have the most experience out of all of them. Bring them all home... and bring the prize as well." He had scented foxes earlier... several of them near Half-Stone. He had already briefed Primroselight on it earlier. Hopefully they could find the family of foxes and drive them out of Skyclan territory without casualties. He would follow from the trees in silence, to observe mostly, and to only intervene if absolutely needed. He had already proved himself to Skyclan several times and was a well known and respected warrior. This hunt would provide the apprentices and younger warriors the same opportunity with the luxury of having Primroselight there to assist.
"Good luck to all of you... bring me back something to celebrate about." A small smile... and then Bloodstar retreated back into the leader's den. He would wait, giving them plenty of time to get away from camp, before he intended to follow after them.
You may now begin the hunt! Whatever posting order you establish now will remain that way throughout the thread. If there are any questions, please feel free to PM or DM me!

Hollypaw was almost vibrating with anticipation at the front of the gathering of cats. This -- this -- was the kind of thing she was waiting for! Bloodstar looked so imposing, so fierce, as he addressed them and it only drummed the feeling of excitement in her chest. She was going to bring back a predator’s pelt, and with her own claws; the young molly could almost taste it. And Hollypaw’s mother was leading this patrol herself, as well -- hadn’t she asked so many times as a kit, what kinds of battles Primroselight had seen?
And, now, she was getting the chance to see it herself. Her eyes shone at the thought, and also glinted in determination. She practically bounced on her paws, weaving around her mother’s legs as their leader spoke. She felt ready for this -- so ready!
So ready, in fact, that the moment Bloodstar gestured for them to proceed, she felt a burst of overwhelming energy--!
“I will!” It was like her inner-leapord was unleashed, and without a thought to look behind her the young calico sprung to action. Like a blur she shot recklessly into the snow beyond, eyes peeled for any sign of color in the white-dusted woods — like the entire patrol was going to rush into their territory at once and she had to get to it first. I bet Wasppaw’s going to be so jealous she missed this!!

Orchidmask stood alongside her sister and Newtspring, a single cat in the quite large crowd who had been gathered for the first-ever predator hunt. Though her dark-furred face wore its usual stoic expression, the large she-cat's body tensed with barely held excitement, her emotions immortalized in the exuberant reactions of one of the younger apprentices. She had been looking forward to an opportunity like this, craving for it since she was a kitten. Daily chores and routine patrols could only do so much to boost a cat's reputation, those were jobs, not grand achievements. This, however, was an act of stepping out of the shadows, every action in full view of the high-ranking warriors. There would be no goofing around, not teasing with Newtspring or idle chat with Oliverain. She needed to stay entirely focused on the task at paw, which was bringing down a fox. If she could, she'd even like to get the killing blow...but she had some fierce competition.
"Yes Bloodstar."The colorpoint warrior nodded firmly as Bloodstar released them to begin their mission, and she wasted no time following Hollypaw out of camp, catching up with her and casting a stern glance the apprentice's way. "Don't run off from the group, you never leave your patrol behind." She wasn't the little scrap's mentor, so she left her order hanging in the air and began looking for tracks and signs of both prey and predator. The long-furred she-cat quickly spotted a bluejay pecking at the snowy ground and began sneaking towards it. However, something farther in the trees must've spooked it, and the bird took flight over her head towards the river. Orchidmask simply watched it go, a bit agitated, but trying not to let it bother her. She was much more interested in what had scared it and began padding in the direction the bird had fleed from.

Beechfang glanced at her father as he spoke and then her sister, a wry smile flitting across her face. She'd helped Bloodstar and her mother kill a massive dog in twolegplace once as a young apprentice, and that had been long ago. She hadn't done much fighting until recently. Now it was time to prove that the lengths she'd gone to make up for that as Bloodstar's apprentice weren't for nothing.
She kept pace with the patrol, eye sweeping the snow-covered ground for signs of predator and prey. A squirrel was foraging near the base of a tree, but before Beechfang could even move toward it, the snap of a twig not far off had it scurrying into the trees. Beechfang merely shrugged. Hunting was a bonus, but it wasn't the priority today. And with such a large patrol sticking close together, they weren't likely to have much luck with prey anyways. Whatever predators were fool enough to cross their path however...

Newtspring was only half-listening to Bloodstar, the periodic flick of an ear the only sign that he was paying any sort of attention. He was focused on things far more important: exactly how he– well, all of them, but really how he was going to take down at least one of the foxes. He was already the star of SkyClan in his own eyes; if he came prancing back with one of their sleek ruddy pelts between his teeth he'd probably be lauded as some sort of wondrous hero. His tail twitched, and a wry grin pulled at the corners of his maw.
It didn't take long for the little spitfire Hollypaw to dart off, and Newtspring rose to his paws with a grumble, eying the patrol around him as they set off. Bearflower was with them... and the newly named Beechfang, too. He gave each of them a long look, as if wondering which of them he should talk to, but the sound of Orchidmask's voice caught his ear. He watched her attempt on the bird before trotting forward to fall into step alongside her. "Eh, doubt prey's gonna be hangin' around us too much today anyway." Newtspring offered warmly, waving his tail at the cats surrounding them. Far too many of them to make hunting any good.

Primroselight gave a small nod at her father's words, still feeling mixed emotions about what was about to happen. On one paw, she could never forget the foxes that had killed her sister, made their still-recovering territory the Dark Forest of the waking world and recently took her mate away from her. It would be a good way and somewhat controlled environment to train apprentices in active combat, and working together as a patrol. However, she couldn't quite get behind purposely leading her clanmates into danger, no matter how thought out it might be. Even the most perfect plans could end in disaster with the tiny slip of a paw.
Hunting was the last thing on Primroselight's mind, instead she focussed on keeping the whole patrol together, which contained both of her own apprentices. She's led plenty in her time, but never one quite this large. Hopefully the warriors would keep an eye out for the apprentices, then it gave her a little less to worry about. She couldn't help but be on-edge at the fact Hollypaw was part of the group, and seemed far too eager to the warrior. At least Orchidmask was taking it seriously, if not a little too seriously, but from Primroselight's general observation of the warrior, that was normal for her.
"Orchidmask is right Holly, we can't have you getting separated from us." On second thought, she called out to all of the apprentices. "-Paws, stay close to a warrior at all times, no matter how could at fighting you may think you are," that was mostly aimed at Lionpaw, "I can promise you, the warrior beside to you is better."

Oliverain quietly sat within the group, waiting for Bloodstar to begin this bold idea. She took casual note of her patrol members. A good handful of apprentices which varied in age. There were a couple she didn't know too well, but that can be expected when one is constantly out of camp on hunts and tight border patrols. Her gaze landed on Orchidmask, accompanied by a twinge of worry. Oliverain knew her sister badly wanted something like this, and had to hope she didn't take this too far. I promise to help you.
Bloodstar spoke, telling the experienced cat of the patrol to lead. Realization stirred in her chest- this was for real. She didn't doubt that, but it's still a bit jarring. Luckily the molly had the sense to take a fine rest before this. Hopefully it was enough to ward off the sleep that hid at the edge of her mind.
The leader soon sent them off and brought himself back to his den. She watched the large tom go, his words lingering. A strong feeling of determination gripped her. There were stakes in this game. This is how she was going to prove her skills to Bloodstar. And a prize? Oh there was no way she would be left out of this party. I have to do well. I will. Be focused and use your skills, this is why you trained so much. A yawn broke from her maw, serving as a frightening reminder of her state.
The patrol took off, and she quickly joined them. The ragdoll took place beside Primroselight, though a pawstep back as to not intrude. Surely this is a cat who's fought a fox before, maybe I can gain an advantage? She opened her maw, a bit worried that the wiser cat would think she's trying to cheat, "Hey Primroselight? You've fought a few foxes before haven't you? Could you share with me some pointers on how to effectively defeat one?" Oliverain didn't like showing her inexperience, but hopefully she could make up for it when she brought a fox home. Bring home a fox? This is crazy. But.. this is beneficial too. A good idea actually. Fewer predators means less chance of loss. Her chest stopped for a second. Oh Dawnfeather, please come home. Maybe if Skyclan moves, they will find the missing warrior. Hopefully.

Rabbitchaser was thrilled to be joining in the hunt, a sense of importance at being a part of something so big. This was amazing! She found herself so excited to go, that she couldn't even keep still when Bloodstar was speaking. The moment they were dismissed, the warrior had dashed off, along with Hollypaw. And then Orchidmask said to not run off. Whoops!
"Uh, yeah, right! Sorry! Just got a bit excited! This is my first predator hunt!" Of course, predator hunts were a new thing, it was everyone's first.... But she was still excited!
She spotted Oliverain speaking with Primroselight, and of course she had to be involved. "Oh, yes yes! You should totally tell us what it was like! Were you scared? I bet you weren't! I bit you kicked those foxes' tails, didn't ya?"

Hailpaw was stood close to his mentor as Bloodstar spoke, completely enraptured in his task. He could never turn away a chance to have the limelight on himself. Glory from battle wasn't his usual choice for gaining prestige, but he had the goal of amazing the pelts off of every cat he met. Simply looking as beautiful as he does wasn't going to cut it for an imposing tom like Bloodstar. He would have to dabble into something more messy and brutish to earn the good graces of those more battle-worn.
Besides, he had a certain white and grey face in mind for who he wanted to make an impression on. Driftpaw didn't seem like the type to be enamored with reckless acts like fighting a fox, but that rational thought didn't quite make it into his head when the offer was made. All he craved was the possibility of more attention, both from specific peers and the rest of the cats in his clan.
The moment they were dismissed, two cats took off in front of the others. His paws itched to join them, but it was best to take the terrain at a walking pace. The snow thinly blanketed everything in white, making navigation a bit more difficult, but also blending in with his fur. He had decided to play into it, only sparsely decorating his fur with light-colored dove feathers so he could better work into stealth if need be. There would be time to be extravagant later.
He walked just a bit behind Primroselight, his ears flicking for any signs of the beasts they were looking for. This was no different than hunting, right? Just large prey that would bite back if given the chance. However, he was distracted from his search as cats approached his mentor. "You fought foxes before?" he gawked, blinking in surprise. "When was that?"

Lionpaw was relatively silent throughout the walk, his face scrunched in careful consideration on the task at hand. He groaned and rolled his eyes, only in the way of an apprentice of 3 moons could, when Primroselight required him to stay near her. With quiet pawsteps, the fluffy warrior closed in flanks with his mentor at the head of the patrol. His tail was still, but his ears were perked and alert and he was constantly checking for scent. Yes, Lionpaw was overtly keen on making a grand impression to Bloodstar today. He wanted to come back to camp, carrying a fox and lay it at the legendary warrior's feet and receive at least a firm nod. He would prove himself today, there was no doubt.

This was it. It was the first predator hunt Skyclan was going to have, and Dreamypaw herself would be apart of it. She really couldn't even control herself when Bloodstar was speaking to the group of felines that would be apart of this hunt, including Rabbitchaser. Dreamypaw was practically weaving around the other cats, ready to chase beasts, like foxes. When Bloodstar said the word, Rabbitchaser had run off, and Dreamypaw almost joined in with her. But she knew she would get in trouble. Primroselight said to be with a warrior at all times, so Dreamypaw decided to go and walk with Newtspring. "Hiya, Newtspring! I've seen you but never talked to you! You trained Oliverain right? I like Oliverain her name is so pretty! My mentor didn't come to the Predator hunt but if she did I wouldn't be talking to you so I'm a sort of happy Spottedfrog didn't come!" Dreamypaw just kept rambling on, without even giving Newtspring a chance to talk. Her voice was just as high as a kits could be when she talked for too long, and too fast. Oliverain spoke up, talking to Primroselight. "Wait what?! Primroselight you fought foxes before wow did you get scars CAN I SEE THE SCARS?!" Dreamypaw went super-speed when talking again, noticing Rabbitchaser was too. She smiled and glanced at Rabbitchaser, hoping for her to smile back.

Bearflower, as usual, was simply happy to be there. To be apart of the first predator hunt was an achievement within itself, and who wouldn't want to be apart of such an important milestone for SkyClan? This patrol seemed strong enough to the point that any foxes that dared to cross their path would be torn to shreds in a matter of heartbeats, surely, and of course the battle-hungry Bearflower was grinning from ear to ear at the opportunity to release her claws and tear into a real enemy. Every fight was an opportunity to make her stronger and to demonstrate that she had learned from her past mistakes. Battle training was one thing, but how was any cat supposed to truly learn how to fight without actually... fighting?
It was cute to watch the apprentices gasp in awe over Primroselight's experience in fighting foxes. All she could do was smile and slightly shake her head as she padded along with the patrol. Nothing could possibly go wrong today. Her best moments always happened when she was fighting, after all.

The scent trail was faint, but it was one that lead to foxes. A family of seven jumped and played peacefully around Halfstone. Several fox kits and two parents, though the fox kits were nearly adult sized now. Around and around the cracked boulder they went, entirely oblivious to any cat patrol nearing them. The mother and father fox lie curled up in the thin snow, uninterested in the rowdy rough-housing of the younger foxes.
One of the younger foxes let out a pained yip as it's sibling bit a little too hard on it's ear. The other one released and licked it's hurt sibling's face, a clear sign of an apology. The action was immediately forgiven and the siblings continued their play. The patrol had plenty of time to move in closer. The foxes were seemingly oblivious, giving no thought to any threat that may be headed their way. A sudden pounding of heavy paws startled the two oldest foxes. Their heads suddenly snapped up in attention with their ears pricked forward. The mother bolted to her feet and barked out an alarm call. The younger foxes halted all movement and stared at her, now on high alert as well. The crashing of brush and the snapping of twigs might as well have been thunder for how they reacted as it drew closer.
The oldest male fox screamed, a warning to flee... just as two large, wolf-like dogs tore through the underbrush and closed the distance between them. In a whirlwind of snapping jaws, yips of panic and pain... the fox family exploded in all directions trying to avoid this sudden attack. Foxes bolted passed the cats in the patrol, one even leaping wildly over a cat, desperate to get away from the terror that had suddenly befallen the family. One fox lie dead at the base of Halfstone, the youngest and smallest that hadn't quite been fast enough to get away before a dog thrashed the life right out of it. The dogs gave chase after the foxes, delighting in their cruel game... and it brought both of them straight to the patrol. At the sight of cats, the dogs half barked, half growled in excitement. There were more things to chase! Without any remorse or regard for whatever life they were taking, the dogs closed in on the cats, vicious, snapping jaws guiding their path.
