Finally, Magpiekit was all that remained. With a soft smile down at the she-kit, Goldenfang called her forward to receive her name and mentor. “Magpiekit, please step forward.”

Magpiekit shivered in the cool breeze that met her as she exited the nursery, excitedly waiting for what would come next. It must be time for her and her littermates to be apprenticed, but since she was still technically a kit, she stayed just outside the nursery, bright eyes trained on the deputy. She watched eagerly as both her siblings were called forward, earning their -paw names. Not fair that I'm last. The kit thought. If anything, she should be first, because she was the most ready to become an apprentice. Hentooth (wherever she had disappeared to) had said that once she was an apprentice, she could find her own pretty things. No doubt, she would have the biggest collection ever soon.
She stood proudly waiting for her turn, and when her name was finally called, she took a confident step forward and waited for Goldenfang to continue.

“You’ve reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you’ve earned your warrior name, you will be called Magpiepaw. Your mentor will be Spotlake.” Goldenfang nodded to the patched she-cat. “She is one of WindClan’s most senior warriors and has the Clan’s respect. I know she’ll teach you what it means to be a good warrior.”

There was no mistaking the pride on Swiftspirit's face as she gave Magpiekit one last lick across the ears, gently smoothing down her fur. It felt like it hadn't been long at all, but now her kits were finally becoming apprentices, and Swiftspirit was happy for them. Maybe she'd be able to take them out hunting one day soon. Magpiepaw received her new name and Spotlake as a mentor, and Swiftspirit gave the older she-cat a small nod. She didn't know Spotlake all that well, but she was a respected warrior and would train Magpiepaw well, she hoped.

Spotlake flicked an ear at the call of her name. A new apprentice huh? It's been many moons since I last had one. Who is that, Swiftspirit's kit? Spotlake pondered, as she padded up to the newly named apprentice. "I'll train you well young one."
Magpiepaw smiled even wider at receiving her new name, proudly trotting up to Spotlake. "And I'll be the bestest apprentice ever!" She promised her new mentor. Surely having a senior and very respected warrior as a mentor meant that she was better. Being the deputy or leader's apprentice would be cooler, but she was going to settle with what she was given.
