Mistlepaw had changed quite a lot in this past moon she had been an apprentice. Not only was she already on her second mentor, but her fear of the forest had almost faded. However, she was still the same cat, and conquering her fears and definitely been set back quite a lot after the incident by the Thunderpath. It was safe to say she would be avoiding that part of the territory for a while. Today, luckily, she was hunting in the Pine Grove. "Prey likes those trees." She pointed out to Mistyfalcon, although he surely knew that, being a seasoned warrior. But it made her proud to know she had learnt knew things about the forest she lived in. The two walked across the territory, set on their destination.
"How are you?" The apprentice wasn't always the best at knowing what to say, but she never let it get in her way, even if she didn't always make huge amounts of sense. A simple question was safe though, and normal. "Parts of the forest aren't as bright as others. The Thunderpath is full of shadows, evil ones too." Basilpaw had patched her up after the fight, but she had mostly kept to herself since. And kept far, far away from Thunderclan.

Mistyfalcon led the way out of camp, whiskers twitching as he breathed in. The lack of rogue scent, after everything, was downright alarming, especially as they had taken Batglow. That they seemed to be sticking to Vea's word was not comforting in the slightest. Mistyfalcon, at least, would have much rather have had his clanmate where he belonged rather than held... whoever knew where.
Forcing the thoughts from his mind had proven difficult at best, though Mistlepaw's voice broke into his thoughts. "They do." He agreed. The pine grove was by far the best place to find prey, even with the twolegs that came through the area during the day in greenleaf. At night though, the grove was quiet, and the twolegs were gone, and prey crept from their burrows. With leaf-fall setting in and leafbare's eventual approach, things wouldn't stay like that for long, and Mistyfalcon was keen on hunting while the prey ran well.
"I'm fine." He muttered, tattered ear twitching in her direction. It wasn't exactly true, but he didn't need to unload his problems onto the apprentice. And besides, she was Shadowclan, and that would just make his complaining being stating the obvious, thus, unnecessary.
Mistlepaw's next words weren't wrong... The thunderpath was certainly nobody's favorite place at the moment. Marshpaw's attack was still fresh in the minds of most cats, and the border was seldom where anything good happened anyways.
"How has training been going?" He'd been far too wrapped up in his own business recently, and had taken Mistlepaw out as a way to spend time together as well as get in some hunting. He was interested to hear how she'd been getting along recently... And made a mental note to check in with Loudnose and Basilpaw, too.

"Good, good. A raccoon swiped at us, but all is well. I'm learning loads of new things." Mistlepaw said excitedly. The bit with the raccoon had certainly no been 'good', but it was better then fighting a rouge cat, especially since they were everywhere recently. A brief scent of some kind of rodent reminded her that they were meant to be hunting, but the creature was long gone by the time she'd registered what was going on. Sooner or later, they had reached the pine grove, so the apprentice spoke even more softly as to not scare away any future catches. "Frostgaze said my hunting was only a little spotted with imperfections. I don't like the fighting so much though."
She fell into the hunting crouch when she spotted a different shrew, the image of her mentor demonstrating the perfect position back in her mind. For her, it was the best way to remember what to do. However, she didn't get the chance to get much closer before her prey had another predator after it. It started off as the quietest of slithering sounds, noticeable before Mistlepaw had scented it. But it was hard to place a scent you didn't recognise. The snake got closer and closer, and struck out the moment Mistlepaw noticed it and cried out to Mistyfalcon. "Snake!" Just like most apprentices, she'd heard stories of their venomous bite. But then again, it was always better to just not get bitten, as when you were fighting any opponent. The snake lashed out, almost too fast to be seen, and made the apprentice cry out in pain.
Mistlepaw attempted to catch a shrew. Catch was unsuccessful and summoned a predator! Snake used Serpent Strike

"You'll get the hang of things... Nobody enjoys fighting, but it's necessary." He mewed, then fell silent and stepped back to watch her hunt the shrew they'd both seemed to scent.
Hunting, as ever, had a way of going awry. A snake this time, not unlike when Mistyfalcon had been an apprentice. Wordlessly, he bounded forward, swiping unsheathed claws at the snake. It didn't look like a venomous one to him, but he'd rather not find out and would've preferred it to be far away from Mistlepaw.
Mistyfalcon used Jumping Strike on Snake for -7 sp, dealing -9+3 damage. Night Finesse active, +1 damage dealt. Attack was unsuccessful!

Mistlepaw doubted that the Thunderclan warrior who'd attacked her felt that way, but she didn't say anything and instead continued to hunt.
The apprentice's wound wasn't large, but it was bleeding furiously, staining the patch of white fur on her haunch a deep red. Worried that reaching out with a paw would make the cut hurt more, she tried to bite the snake's tail whilst Mistyfalcon distracted it. The scaly create was faster even then a Windclan cat, and was good at wriggling out the way, just like it did to her.

The snake, as usual, proved to be a slippery creature, evading the two cats with ease. Mistyfalcon's claws flashed towards it again, hoping that his next attack wouldn't miss. He didn't want to give the snake a chance to retaliate more than it already had.
This time his claws met scales, and he sank them in deep, doing as much damage as he could before withdrawing and circling the snake once more. It didn't need another opening to attack either of them.
Mistyfalcon attempted Front Paw Strike for -7 sp, dealing -11 damage. Night Finesse active, +1 damage. Attack was successful!

The snake could hopefully tell it was fighting a losing battle. Mistlepaw hoped it would flee soon, and keep to its won prey, so she didn't need to hurt it too much. But then another sharp pain in her side reminded her that her opponent wasn't against hurting her, and it could hurt Mistyfalcon too soon if they didn't beat it. The apprentice struck out with her claws again, hoping it would be over soon. However, her blow missed yet again, but did turn the slithery creature's attention wholly on her, hopefully so the warrior could deal the last blow.

Once again, Mistlepaw missed the snake with her claws, and Mistyfalcon was once again reminded why he didn't enjoy fighting the creatures. He lashed out with his claws once more... And the snake managed to slide away with an agitated hiss.
Snakes, how he hated snakes.

This time, this time she would get it. Mistlepaw knew the snake would be done soon, but she also didn't realise it would lash out again. In a desperate attempt to escape, the serpent struck out at the warrior, much like it had with the apprentice. "Mistyfalcon!" She called out, but not soon enough, and its jaws clamped onto the tom's foreleg.
In an attempt to get the snake away, she flung a paw towards it, but keeping her claws sheathed incase she accidentally caught Mistyfalcon's already-injured leg. Once again, she missed, the snake letting ago at the last moment. However, this time the snake was smart as well as fast. Instead of staying in the battle and risking the chance of not leaving at all, it slipped away between the trees, deep into the marshes, never to be seen again. Mistlepaw had been surprised at that, but was glad they didn't have to kill it. "Stay to your own prey, and hunt many more times in the future!" She called after the predator, before turning to Mistyfalcon.
"Are you alright? We probably both need to see Basilpaw now." Her own injury was stinging more now there was nothing to distract her, the red still bright against her pelt.
