August Medicine Cat Meeting

Beechface silently made the trek towards highstones, not at all thrilled to be leaving the clan for any length of time, and even less thrilled about the prospect of interacting with certain other medicine cats. Cloverpaw was unlikely to keep her mouth shut, and given everything that had happened recently, Beechface's patience was wearing very, very thin.

She was the first to arrive at highstones, and the large tabby sat quietly, harsh gaze watching the path below as she waited for her fellow medicine cats to arrive. She wondered if Dovefrost had had a chance to speak with Minkstar about Briarthorn, and wondered what the Thunderclan leader's response would be. She had been genuine in not wanting war between the clans, and just for once she would have preferred cooler heads to prevail if Minkstar wanted the former Shadowclanner to face consequences. She hadn't bothered to speak to Bloodstrike about it, she doubted that he would side with the clan's welfare over his new mate.

A weary huff escaped the she-cat as she waited, tail slowly flicking back and forth as the sky slowly darkened around her.

Dovefrost was the second to arrive, taking a little longer than usual with his apprentice in tow. While she had been to the Moonstone before, she still needed to learn the way fully. As soon as he hulled himself up onto the stones he noticed Beechface. Hopefully all went well when she spoke to Wolfstar.

"Greetings Beechface." He said dipping his head in his greeting. "This is my apprentice Moonpaw." He said, using his tail to gesture to the younger cat behind him. "I hope you will treat her with the same kindness you have shown me." He said. He wanted the two to get along, she was going to need some connections just like he did, because eventually he wouldn't be around anymore.

Moonpaw had made it through the journey a second time, but she still wasn't quite as used to how far it was. She knew that she was going to be meeting other medicine cats and their apprentices tonight, but it made her nervous. She nodded respectfully to the other medicine cat when she was introduced, but kept quiet, giving the other cat a chance to speak first if they even wished to do so. She looked around in the meantime, taking in the scenery.

The journey to highstones seemed relatively short to Smallbean. Between chatting with Henpaw and admiring the sunset and the pretty colors that came with it, the time had passed quickly. Smallbean had forgotten about Skyclan's attack on Windclan's camp for the duration of the journey, but, but when he lead Henpaw up the path to mothermouth and saw Beechface, it took no longer than a heartbeat for him to remember. Dread filled him. Smallbean had been so busy during the battle that he wasn't able to see everything that had happened, but as far as he heard, Beechface had taken one of Lilacstar's lives. His eyes narrowed as he looked at Skyclan's medicine cat, no longer able to think of her as such. A cat who was supposed to stay out of battle taking one of Lilacstar's lives. Thankfully, Dovefrost was also there, along with what looked like his apprentice.

Calming his expression the best he could, he hesitantly approached the group, stepping aside so that Henpaw could meet them. "This uh, this is Henpaw, my apprentice. Henpaw, this is Beechface and Dovefrost, Skyclan and Thunderclan's medicine cats." Henpaw had the right to a formal introduction with Beechface even if Smallbean was slightly afraid to approach her. With a gulp, he turned to face the new cat. "And what's your name? You're Dovefrost's apprentice, right? Maybe you will get along with Henpaw?" He asked nervously.

The journey had been uneventful, nothing happening other than discovering Smallbean also liked sunsets. It had been a long trek to Highstones, but a good one. Henpaw never passed over a chance to stretch her legs. Aha. SkyClan and ThunderClan, if she remembered correctly. “Beechface. Dovefrost.” Henpaw dipped her head respectfully to the medicine cats. Smallbean struck up a conversation with the younger cat, so Henpaw turned to the two older cats. Now was not the time to think of things. She was meeting her fellow medicine cats for the first time. She would listen to the Code and not let Clan tensions influence her actions… as best she could. She sat down, curling her tail around her paws and straightening her back. She was representing WindClan.

“You’ve both been medicine cats for a while, haven’t you?” Small talk. Something safe to talk about so she didn’t think about- hopefully that wouldn’t bother them. Well, if it did, that was their problem. Although… if Beechface had a problem she was likely to make it everycat’s problem. She was tall and muscular… although hopefully a good deal of that was fur, not muscle. Henpaw wasn’t as tall as her, and didn’t expect to be anytime soon, but her gaze didn’t waver as it met Beechface’s eyes for a moment before turning to Dovefrost. If worst came to worst, they’d need as many allies as possible. From what Thrushflight had told her, ShadowClan and RiverClan had traditionally been allies, as had ThunderClan and WindClan. If everycat stuck to their agreements, SkyClan could find themselves on the short end of the stick.

“Are there always this many fireflies?” She asked with a huff, swatting one away that danced in front of her. Now, if that aggravated Beechface, anything would.

"Hello, Dovefrost," Beechface gave the Thunderclanner a friendly smile, glancing over to the smaller she-cat that followed. Moonpaw, she was introduced as, "Told you you'd find someone, congratulations." She was happy that Dovefrost had found an apprentice, hopefully her training would go smoothly.l Her gaze flicked towards Moonpaw, offering the young she-cat a soft smile. "You'll do fine, Dovefrost's a capable medicine cat."

It wasn't long before the Windclanners arrived, and Beechface was silently grateful that Smallbean didn't seem to be as outspoken as his former mentor had been... Or like a certain apprentice she had the misfortune of knowing. "Smallbean." She greeted briskly, though her tone noticeably lacked the warmth that it had when she'd greeted the Thunderclan medicine cats. She didn't really hold any ill-will toward Smallbean personally but they'd never been close or interacted much outside of meetings, and Henpaw she didn't know at all.

The Windclan apprentice's question drew a soft snort from Beechface, She'd been a medicine cat for some time, yes... Far too long, really. She flicked an ear in irritation at one of the fireflies, almost lazily lifting a heavy paw to swipe one out of the air. "They're certainly abundant tonight."

Moonpaw sat and waited as she was introduced to each of the cats present, nodding to each one as their name was mentioned. She turned to Smallbean as he spoke to her and nodded in response. "I am, and hopefully I will." She was older than the cat called Henpaw, but more than likely younger than the other medicine cats. She had no clue how old they were, but she was at least fully grown. She looked around at everyone speaking. As it was her first meeting, she preferred to observe rather than speak to the others.

When the she-cat named Beechface spoke, Moonpaw was unsure of how to feel about her words. On one paw, it seemed like encouragement, but on the other, she hadn't quite started her training yet, so she had no clue what to expect. Moonpaw felt a bit intimidated to say the least. As the fireflies were mentioned, the black she-cat couldn't help but to lift her blue eyes towards the sky, watching the ones buzzing around her.

Cloverpaw heaved herself up Highstones, pausing for a moment to catch her breath. It looked like there were quite a few more cats here than usual... giving Dennis a quick glance, she gave a little scramble and hopped up to meet the other medicine cats.

Nodding to Smallbean and Dovefrost, she tipped her head, looking at their new apprentices. "So who are they?" She mewed evenly. The WindClan one looked... vaguely familiar, but Cloverpaw couldn't quite place her, so she focused her attention mostly on the ThunderClan pair. She had yet to acknowledge Beechface and planned to keep it that way, at least for the night.

Dennis huffed with the effort of climbing up Highstones. Even Cloverpaw, with her recently injured legs, was faster than him. He wheezed a little at the top, watching Cloverpaw run up to meet the new apprentices. He smiled softly as he approached, avoiding Beechface's gaze entirely. Cloverpaw had somehow managed to be more hated by her than him, but he wasn't taking any chances. For his sake and for his apprentices'. "Dovefrost, Smallbean, congratulations." His words were soft, almost placating. He knew the others probably didn't consider him a friend. "Welcome to Highstones, you two. I'm sure you'll prove to be very skilled medicine cats." He smiled at the apprentices, then averted his eyes.

He didn't want to ruin the opportunity for Cloverpaw to make medicine cat friends. She, as opposed to him, should grow up close to all her colleagues. He had only ever talked to Softbreeze, and now he was walking on eggshells with Beechface and limited to polite nods and hushed formalities with the rest of them. With a sigh, he limped towards Mothermouth and crept through the tunnel. He had nothing to add to this conversation, he thought sadly as he fell into a deep sleep at the Moonstone.

It wasn't long before the nauseating scent of fish filled Beechface's nose, and she spared the Riverclanners a cool glance as they finally joined the medicine cats. That left only Shadowclan... But as the moon rose, there seemed to be no sign of Rookfire.

"I hope nothing's happened to Rookfire, but Starclan waits for no cat." She sighed. With a nod at Dovefrost and Smallbean, the thick-furred tabby vanished into mothermouth, paws quickly finding their way down to the moonstone. Beechface curled up at the base of the glowing stone, pressing her nose to it, and sank into an unnaturally fast sleep.

Dovefrost felt a flicker of concern as Rookfire didn't show, but Beechface was right.. Starclan didn't wait for anyone.. Maybe he would pay a visit to Shadowclan soon to check on his friend. He gave a nod to the others before stepping inside the tunnel heading for the Moonstone. As soon as he was inside he took up his usual spot, pressing his nose to the cold stone and letting Starclan take him to the dream world.
