August Medicine Cat Meeting 08/05/18

Goldeneye still couldn't believe that she was pregnant. She never wanted- never planned for this, for any of this to happen. Goldeneye looked back towards her apprentice, her tail high, "Come along Fallowpaw, we mustn't be late." Goldeneye had found it tough to hide all her symptoms from the keen-eyed she-cat, but through her relentless teachings, she made sure her attention was always elsewhere in preparation for her departure. In order to keep it hidden away, she had to stay out in the woods until her kittens were born, even then, she had to wait for them to grow to safely carry them to Riverclan camp where they'd grow up.

Right next to her, but so far away.

Once cresting the hill the she-cat found that she was once again, the first medicine cat there and her tail twitched with annoyance. Did she seriously have to put up with her fellow medicine cats tardiness for the rest of her moons? Goldeneye snorted irritably, her tail lashing. The less time she had to spend out in the opening with Shade around... with every moment spent out in the opening opened her to scrutiny and a chance to be found out before the kits were even born.

"When you meet the other medicine cats, Fallowpaw. You will regard them kindly, but this is like a gathering. You don't truly know them, they are your enemy at the end of the day. Yes, even despite of our close connection to Starclan. I know full well how quickly a medicine cats knowledge can tear another clan apart, how a medicine cats word can make clans go to war." Goldeneye meowed, her expression flat and stoic. She was the reason that Windclan's herb storage was ripped to shreds when Featherlight and Mottleheart were still the medicine cats then. Goldeneye's gut clenched at the thought of them, Featherlight dead and Mottleheart a warrior once more, a coward.

With them gone, she was senior to all the medicine cats around her, with no cat to turn to.

It wasn't too hard for Fallowpaw to follow her mentor all the way to Highstones, watching carefully as she trailed behind her. She kept her head raised high, despite the dull aching in her paws. She hadn't yet grown used to the trek to Highstones, but she stood her optimistic grounds, believing that eventually, it wouldn't be so bad. The she-cat still had a good amount of growing to do, and it was likely much worse on her small body than it would be in the future, when she was fully grown. Besides, the initial excitement the medicine cat apprentice felt about the meeting hadn't fully left her. It was enough to keep her going, all the way until they reached the top of the hill.

There was a hint of confusion in her eyes as they stood at the top of the hill, but the frustration in her mentor's voice and movements led her to believe that this wasn't a strange occurrence. She'd expected to see the other Clan's Medicine Cats when they found their way to the top, and she shook her head when she realized that they were late. Her thoughts were briefly directed elsewhere when Goldeneye explained, once again, how she was supposed to behave around the other Medicine Cats. She nodded her head softly when she finished, looking up into her eyes. She understood, and she'd comply.

Shaking out the small bits of debris left on her coat, the she-cat questioned the absence of the other healer's presence. "Are we early, or is it normal for the lot of them to avoid showing up in a timely manner?" The sweet she-cat had already picked up on one of Goldeneye's many mannerisms, her offhand shaming of other Clans acting as proof of this notion.

Mintwhisker was the second to arrive, her face looking drawn and more tired than usual as she struggled up the hill. Unencumbered by an apprentice, she had made good time through Windclan's territory and was relatively surprised to see that Goldeneye and her apprentice had made it to the top before her.
"We're not all as punctual as Goldeneye is," The she-cat purred, managing a smile despite what had happened in her clan. She cherished every second spent with her fellow Medicine Cats- being able to push away everything that had happened and focus on the now was something she could rarely accomplish whilst in camp. Sometimes it was nice to stop thinking for a while.
The short-legged she-cat flicked her tail, giving Fallowpaw a friendly grin before turning to Goldeneye. Her smile faltered, and a brief look of concern shadowed her face. Something about Goldeneye was... different. She looked... well, she looked normal. Except... What was it? Stunned for a moment, Mintwhisker blinked, trying to decipher what was affecting her golden-pelted friend. Her confusion only grew when she was unable to identify both the strange affliction and what was causing it, and she gave herself a little shake. Had Tinystar's first lost life had shaken her so much that she was seeing sickness in the perfectly healthy? She really had to stop worrying so much; it was going to be the death of her.
Breaking into a smile again, the taupe she-cat gave Goldeneye a respectful nod. She was the most senior Medicine Cat, since the passing of Featherlight. She missed the gray she-cat dearly. It seemed ages ago when the three of them sat together by the Moonstone, young apprentices and the best of friends.
If only things could've stayed that simple forever. Then Goldeneye was attacked, and both Ivystar and Jaystream, quick to defend their Medicine Cat, had started that terrible, terrible battle with Windclan. Things hadn't been the same between the three of them since.
"Greetings, Goldeneye." Mintwhisker mewed, forcing the thoughts, along with a twinge of suspicion, out of her head. No more overthinking. "Is Riverclan faring well? How's Jaystar?"

Goldeneye's ears flicked back at the mention of her mate, Jaystar, suspicion rearing its ugly head as Goldeneye looked over the she-cat warily. Snorting the she-cat meowed, "Just fine. Busy as ever." Goldeneye kept her response vague and short, her constant worry making her even more hesitant than she usually was to interact with her fellow medicine cats. Goldeneye looked back to where the other clan medicine cats should have been arriving. "Looks like they're all incredibly late. Again. Do these meetings mean nothing to them?" Goldeneye spat, her claws unsheathing with frustration. "Time and time again they are late or they do not show, they should be revoked of their privileges as medicine cats if they can't make it to a simple meeting. They do not care. They wish to bathe in the sun all day long with their bellies full and fat." The Riverclan medicine cats tail lashed as she turned to look back at Mintwhisker.

"I am grateful that at least you and my apprentice will be timely if I am ever not present." She hissed, turning on her paws she made her way into the tunnels, "Come along Fallowpaw, our ancestors are waiting." She called before disappearing into the tunnels and up to the moonstone which was already glowing. Unease curled itself in her belly as she approached the stone, laid down and got comfortable before touching her nose to the stone.

'StarClan Revelation' :

Mapleleaf had arrived to the Moonstone with a hollow look in her usual green gaze. Rainpaw was no longer with her and that had impacted her the most. He was like her son. She did everything to keep him happy. The medicine cat shook her thoughts away as she walked behind the others. She didn't really greet them except for a tiny nod.

The sand-tabby sat down in front of the Moonstone and pressed her pink nose. It was cold but soothing, eventually lulling her to a timed slumber. She was off to Starclan.
