August Medicine Cat Meeting

Spiderquill let a small shudder run down his spine, relieving the tension in his legs from walking all this way. Never got any easier, even after all the times he'd travelled here. Always at night, he realised. What must it look like in daytime? Would the Moonstone glow at all without the moon? Maybe he'd ask Ivystar for a vacation, pop by here some Sunhigh. Once he had scaled the steep hill and reached the flat rock in front of Mothermouth, he turned to his apprentice. The thought made his heart skip a beat. He, Spiderquill, had an apprentice. And a rather bright one, at that. "How you feeling, Thornpaw? Hope your legs aren't too sore. Anyway, we're the first here, so take your time and enjoy the view. Some of the others might take a while, they're not as young and spry as us two." He winked at his tabby apprentice, moving forward and sitting down in his usual place and beckoning for Thornpaw to join him.

Mothglow made her way to Highstones with her usual relaxed pace, and if the journey had affected her she certainly didn't show it - though concern for her friends in SkyClan lingered on her face. She dipped her head in greeting. "Spiderquill, it's good to see you."

Daisybloom made her way to the Moonstone fairly quickly. As she got there, she noticed that so far, Spiderquill and Mothglow had arrived. She hoped that the rest of the cats would be joining soon. Sagelight’s starus was currently unknown, but she hoped he was out there, somewhere. He had to be alright, right? Even Aspenheart’s grumpy face would be nice to see. All of the medicine cats would be Daisybloom’s dream, so she hoped somehow they could all make it. She stood quietly, waiting for the events of the night to start.

The newly made medicine cat apprentice padded close behind her joyful mentor remembering her previous trip to the same spot. She'd kept up with the slimmer tom for their lengthy travel all the while passing light banter between each other. Her paws however were the opposite of light having traversed through the strange territory of WindClan. "View?" The tabby echoed back the word. The meaning of Spiderquill's words sunk in all the while he took a seat. Now she gazed upon the aforementioned viewpoint from where the medicine cats could watch in its full glory.

Her pale green eyes twinkled upon the stone when another cat's voice could be heard from the side. Thornpaw took her seat next to her mentor blanking on what she was meant to say in greeting. They looked different from her clan mates, their mysterious scents drifted in the air. All she could do was give the other medicine cats a respectful dip of her head - her mother had done her best to instill some manners into the young she-cat.

As Softbreeze made her way up the well-trodden path, it was obvious something was wrong. She didn't stop for a hello. She didn't wave her tail in greeting. She didn't even look up at them. The pale cream she-cat walked right past the small assembled group, right into the long dark tunnel. For once, her pelt didn't stand on end walking down the tunnel. Something was wrong... Something was... Missing.

Aspenheart.

Softbreeze was alone. Her eyes were dull, her movements numb. Her dark ears were drooped, and her pelt hanging loose on her. She was a mess. She'd been a mess since Aspenheart passed. Two days. She'd been a full fledged medicine cat for two days before Aspenheart died. Would she see him now? How did prophecies work? She'd never received one before. As she laid down and touched her nose the the stone, it was a few seconds before she felt the tingling numbness of stars, but before that she felt the light wispiness of fur settling on both sides beside her. The other medicine cats had followed her in. Of course they had, they had to meet with StarClan, too, didn't they?

Fourtrees. But not Fourtrees? Strong, dependable cedar trees grew in one area, wild flowers surrounding. Small, tiny pawprints lead away from the trees, heading into... WindClan territory? The wind blew by, rustling the leaves of the trees. As single, green leaf floated down from the tree, and as the leaf touched the ground, a crackle of thunder exploded, lighting up the clearing. Softbreeze saw two pairs of eyes, one pair green and the other... Mixmatched. "This mistake should not happen anymore!" The voice hissed, and a beautiful apricot colored she-cat appeared before her, tall and lanky, with sleek muscles and amber eyes which lacked all warmth.

"I will not punish any cat for love!" Softbreeze hissed, resulting in a growl from the mysterious StarClanner. The unknown cat's eyes seemed to blaze with fury and she gained a crazed look in her eyes. "So be it. Your leniency will bring about your demise, sweet Softpaw."
"Her name," Boomed a thunderous voice, "Is Softbreeze. Your hurt brings no need to inflict hurt among others. She is a noble cat, unlike you, Hailfang, and you will show her respect."
With a snarl, Hailfang turned, stomping away from the clearing, wildflowers smushed beneath her claws. "Fear not, young one. Hailfang carries a heart of anger with her, and will express it openly against love. A hurt cat wishing to hurt others, not through claws, but through words. Sad, isn't it?"

Softbreeze went silent as Darksong approached and the clearing changed to a place Softbreeze knew well. WindClan camp. "However, she was not wrong entirely. I stand with you, Softbreeze, love is no crime. However, Olivestar deserves to know the wandering heart of one of her warriors. You saw the gaze, you know who it was. This should not be your burden to bear, but it is, do so with dignity. We'll meet again, Softbreeze, Echolight sends her dearest wishes. May StarClan light your path."

"And yours, Darksong, always yours," Breathed the medicine cat breathlessly, touching her nose to the former medicine cat of WindClan.

'StarClan Revelation' :

Daisybloom looked over at the sound of treading paws. Assuming it was either the Windclan or Skyclan medicine cats, she turned her head with a smile. She was partially right, at least. There was Softpaw. Or was she a full medicine cat by now? More importantly, there was something different than usual. Alone. She was alone. Aspenheart wasn’t there. The older tom could have gotten sick, or decided to stay home but by the forlorn look on the Windclanner’s face, much more had happened.

”Oh,” she gasped sadly with her realization. She wanted to comfort the she-cat, help her. But she didn’t know what to say. And nothing Daisybloom could say would help. So she simply followed the grieving companion through the tunnel, somberly touching her nose against the Moonstone.

Waking up, she found herself at...Fourtrees? It was during a Gathering. Looking around, she re-examined this must’ve been one of the past. She was sitting in another body (some sort of brown tabby cat), talking to a young warrior. He was brown and white, and looked quite nervous. Suddenly, without control of herself, she spoke, but in a voice other to her own. She recognized it, but wasn’t sure who it was. ”It’s strange, having a normal gathering.”

The other tom responded with a shudder. ”It’s strange, having a normal gathering.” Suddenly, Daisybloom was floating up in the air, moving on from this scene. She floated above the air, watching the tom talk to someone, alone at Fourtrees, except for another cat, which she couldn’t see or hear. The medicine cat assumed the unseen cat was her host.

Suddenly she was in the body again, looking at the tom. ”This was, uh, kinda nice. Do you wanna meet here again, in, I dunno, two sunrises?“ she spoke, and that voice struck a bell in her head, she knew she recognized it but she couldn’t remember who.

As she started to walk away, she felt something strange; a kick in her belly. Suddenly, the message clicked. That Windclan tom had gotten the brown tabby pregnant. It was a romance between clans! And so soon after the Righteous Few?

Suddenly, she was awake again, and for real. Standing up, she stretched out her legs. Normally she would tell Softbreeze about the tom but...she wasn’t sure this would be the best time. So she contemplated for a moment. Who could the brown tabby be? Which clan was this in?

'StarClan Revelation' :

Spiderquill smiled at Softbreeze as she approached, mouth open to meow a greeting, but the words caught in his troat as she swiftly strode past him. She looked a mess, if he was being honest. She didn't even say hello before she slunk into the cave to the Moonstone. Then another thought hit him: where was Aspenheart? Sagelight was with SkyClan, which was worrying enough, but WindClan was doing fine as far as he knew. Was it possible that...? Oh no. It felt as if a boulder had replaced his heart, weighing him down as he felt second-hand grief for Softbreeze's mentor. He'd always felt a little intimidated by the older cat, but he'd been nice to Spiderquill. The little tom had come to respect him over the moons. He'd have to try comfort Softbreeze at some point but for now he had a duty to fulfill. Swallowing down the lump in his throat, he instructed Thornpaw to wait for him, quickly entered Mothermouth and pressed his nose to the Moonstone.

As usual, he felt compelled to close his eyes as the uncomfortable hot-cold sensation washed over him. He was lifted out of his body and suddenly dropped in another. He opened his eyes in surprise. What was this? It felt unlike any other prophecy he'd ever recieved. He was physically present this time, not watching silently from above. He was in the Carrionplace, judging by the bleak landscape and the unspeakable smell. And another thing- he only had two legs. He looked down at himself, realising that he was no longer a cat. He was small and feathered, two inky black wings in place of paws. A crow. He would've freaked out about that, but something more interesting came into his view: two cats walking rather suspiciously towards each other. He hopped to a lower surface, standing on something gross and smelly. He was glad he didn't know what it was. He was close enough to see their faces now, and- wait. Was that... Willowbreeze? A closer look confirmed it. This was the cat he'd brought on her Moonstone journey way back when. She was young here, younger than she was in the real world. This must have already happened. He didn't recognise the other cat- he wasn't RiverClan, that was for sure- but it was clear that the two were close. A bit too close. It was subtle, but they were definitely more than friends. His heart sunk, which may have been because of his dismay or because he found himself being once again transported somewhere else. This place he knew well- it was none other than the river that marked the border between Clans. Judging by the lack of water and charred trees, this was taking place after the encounter at the Carrionplace. He was a bit miffed to realise that he was still a crow, standing on a branch not too high above the pair of cats. Once again, they weren't doing anything overtly romantic, but just by looking at them Spiderquill could tell there was something going on. Oh dear, Willowbreeze. What have you gotten yourself into? With thought, he felt a tell-tale tug on his insides and closed his eyes as he was spirited away to the real world. 

He looked down just to make sure he had all four legs. There they were, skinny and half-bare as ever. Softbreeze was still recieving her prophecy, so with a painful tug on his heart he turned away and trudged out of the cave. He mustered a weak smile as he approached Thornpaw. "Come on, Thornpaw, it's about time we get going. We'll have to have a chat with Ivystar when we get back." He waved his tail as a goodbye to the others, too lost in thought to manage a proper goodbye.
