A Bird and Some Others [Open - Hunting]

Ploverpuddle sat at the entrance of camp waiting on some others to join him. He was leading a simple hunting patrol, nothing to exciting or glorious. He just wanted to see if they could find something out in the Flower Fields, granted they weren't that flowery right now. If he worked with others then maybe they could find something to feed the clan in this harsh leaf-bare. Maybe everything wouldn't be hiding away in dens right now. The gray tom's tail flicked slightly as he waited patiently.

"Ploverpuddle." Finchstar purred warmly, dipping his head. The wind whipped harshly over the moor, caught in the gorse bushes that shielded camp. The leader smiled and found it exhilarating, yearning to run over the hills. "Are you up for a spot of hunting? Did you have a location in mind?" The tom kneaded the ground in a kit-like fashion, eyeing Ploverpuddle with curiosity. These past few days, Finchstar found himself ousted from his love of conversation. Both his whitecough and the spectacle at the gathering had made sure of that. But Ploverpuddle was a stoic cat, if the tom was to ease himself back into the waters, his grace would be found here.

Crowspirit padded after Finchstar, tail high in greeting to the other toms. He was slimmer than usual, like everyone else, but he was young and flexible, and his good health shone in his coat and expression. It appeared that Ploverpuddle was putting together a patrol, and he was eager to hunt with his leader and former mentor. "Hey there! Mind if I come along?" His kits were still young, but Spotlake had a good handle on them, and he was eager to get back onto the moors.

Ploverpuddle nodded in response to Finchstar's question. "I was planning to head to the Flower Fields." As soon as the Tom was about to mention others his former apprentice walked up. The fluffy gray Tom dipped his head slightly as a greeting. " Of course. I think this is enough. Let us head out." Ploverpuddle said. The large Tom stood and he flicked his tail for the others to follow him out of camp.

Once they had reached the flower Fields the Tom nodded to the others to split up. It was there best chance to catch something. The gray warrior went off on his own catching scent of a rabbit. He tracked it until he was close. Once the rabbit ran he ran too. Attempting to catch the creature. Despite his leg scar slowing him down he managed to tackle and kill the rabbit.

Finchstar held his tail high as they split off into the flower fields. The blooms hid themselves in leafbare, but the tom smiled as he imagined what the meadow would look like once the sky warmed. He remembered meeting Zinnia here, and thought of all the other souls who may wander across the moor. The sight seemed to ease his mind. Even the whitecough rattle in the tom's throat couldn't measure up to the hope he felt.

A rustle in the grass had Finchstar's ears swiveling. His line of sight was cut by the tall stalks of heather, but from the squeak quickly ending, he imagined Ploverpuddle or Crowspirit had caught something. The smile grew larger as he searched for his own quarry. Rabbits could hide easily in the dense stalks of brown. WindClan was made up of sight hunters, however the tom was a cat after all. He knew to rely on his nose when his eyes failed. The ginger patched tabby lifted his maw to the air in scent of prey. A quick whiff revealed something peat and soil-like. Rabbits of course. Finchstar slowed his pawsteps and followed the rustling until he split the grasses and spotted the beast. A hare, spry and wiry. Finchstar's yellow eyes narrowed before he sprinted from his spot, slamming his paws onto the hare before it could dart away. The taste of blood leaked into his jaws and made him salivate. Finchstar smiled and dragged his catch to an elevated hill, hoping to spot Crowspirit and Ploverpuddle in their ventures.

Finchstar attempted to catch a Hare and succeeded! Costing 5 stamina.

The young tom nodded, weaving off into the heather, nose alert for any sign of prey. It wasn’t long before he spotted a grouse scratching through the snow, looking for fallen seeds. He stalked closer, slowly, before springing. The bird began to take off, but he was faster, springing into the air and taking it down with deft paws. He sunk his teeth into it’s neck, snapping it’s spine, and picked up his catch, pleased. It wasn’t nearly as fat as a leaf-fall grouse, where the seeds were plentiful and unburied, but it would still feed several cats.

His tail curled in satisfaction as he poked his head above the stems, trying to catch a glimpse of his campmates and their success. He spotted Finchstar’s golden and white pelt at the top of a rise, and Ploverpuddle dragging a rabbit, not far off.

Picking the grouse back up, he padded to join his leader, and wait for his former mentor.

Ploverpuddle was glad that his clan was managing to catch things considering the harsh conditions. It meant good things for the clan. Hopefully they could keep this good trend going. The gray fluffy warrior continued on his hunt. His mouth open for any scents that would catch his interest. Soon he caught scent of a bird himself. Quietly he moved closer until he was able to pounce.
