From the corner of his eye, Raventail saw Ploverpuddle take another hit from the badger’s claws. To Raventail's relief, it wasn’t enough to bring him down; the gray-and-white warrior leapt on top of his opponent, pinning it down—then the raccoon’s back paws started pummeling Raventail again, and he turned his attention to the matter at paw. The desperate swiping was a good sign, as terrible as it felt. It was losing its grip. Letting out a piercing yowl, he finally twisted away at the cost of a few strands of fur. Once he was sure he’d gotten free, he whirled around to drive his claws across the predator’s patterned face. He'd never fought something like this before; the closest he'd gotten was asking about the scars on Mossbloom's chest, and they'd both been ordinary apprentices then. Were all raccoons this tough, or had this one been forced to adapt to the foxes, too?

The creature approached with a soft growl, not sparing a glance toward its companion as it tussled with the other tom. No, the badger's sole focus was on the gray tom - enjoying the fear that glimmered in his eyes. It was about to leap forward to strike when suddenly the tom turned and made the leap at it, growling as it was forced to the ground. It craned its neck as it tried to shake the moor cat off...Before taking in a deep breath. With a sudden burst of skill, it rolled suddenly to the side violently, before leaping to its paws as it freed itself before turning and leaping at the warrior.

The badger used Duck and Twist on Ploverpuddle, costing 25 stamina and dealing 7 damage. The badger is no longer grappled.

As expected, the slender feline suddenly tore out of the raccoon's grip. Though a satisfying clump of fur was left gripped in its claws, the predator wasn't satisfied. The cat was shockingly fast, as expected, and despite the raccoon's best effort the feline's claws came lashing mercilessly down across its face. After some ducking and twisting to no avail, it let out an infuriated screech and launched forward, launching into the tom's belly and slamming the wind out of him. They both tumbled to the earth, and the raccoon immediately whipped back to its feet again.

What...? As the badger escaped his grasp from his move, Ploverpuddle's agitation began to rise. These weren't moves of a predator that was for sure, but it was clearly a predator in front of him. He didn't understand. The previous move made it clear that there was more to this situation than what was being let on. Could they figure it out? He didn't know. Not at this current point in time. He was too weak to do anything. He had to last long enough. Deal enough damage to drive out this creature. He only had a few more minutes before he had to run. "I cannot take much more of this.." He said to no one in particular, maybe Raventail would pick up on it. Quickly the tom dashed forward sliding under the Badger swiping his claws at it's under belly.

The raccoon tackled him as he fell. They toppled as one; Raventail thrashed with his forepaws, but the raccoon had already scrambled to safety. Unwilling to wait around for his breath to come back, he rolled until his own paws were underneath him and popped back up, hunched over and bristling. Even if he hadn’t heard Ploverpuddle’s exact words, it was clear from his voice that he was tiring fast. ”No shame in running!” Raventail called back, still a little breathless. Ploverpuddle didn’t seem the type to throw that comment back in his face—anyway, in the heat of battle, how much did it matter?

With Ploverpuddle’s condition in mind, the dark tom changed tactics. He darted around the raccoon and clamped his jaws around its bushy, banded tail. It tasted every bit as muddy and matted as it looked. Narrowing his eyes, Raventail gave it a sharp tug, then spat it out with a hiss. ”Go, then,” he said urgently. ”I’ll be right behind you.” The last time he’d had this exchange, he’d been the one insisting he would stay no matter how dire things got. Now, standing on the other side, he understood. They were WindClan; if they fled, they would live.

The badger's eyes flickered between the two warriors as they conversed quickly in the heat of battle, bearing its teeth with a snarl. Cowards. The moor cats were nothing but quick-footed fools and cowards -  but...The badger lunged at its opponent, paws ramming into him as they sent him rolling away. It snarled as it lowered its head, approaching slowly - giving the tom time to run. Bloodshed was glorious, but to see the pitiful cats flee with their tails between their legs... That would do for now. Their eyes kept a careful look on the other tom who had looked to stun its companion, gaze shifting between the two to see if he was going to embrace the same opening to scurry home - not that it would save them.

No, they would never be safe.

His eyes widened as the Badger launched itself at him again. He couldn't take it anymore if he wanted to keep his life he needed to leave just like Raventail had said. Swiftly he dodged to the side from the attack. His body screaming at him for such a harsh movement but if he let another hit land he wouldn't have his life anymore he was sure of it. As soon as he was clear of the Badger's range. He turned tail and started sprinting as fast as his body would let him. "Hurry Raventail!" He called for his deputy. The deputy wouldn't be able to handle it on his own.

Ploverpuddle used Dodge and Fight, -10 SP. Failed to counter. Ploverpuddle has fled the battle.

Ploverpuddle ducked out of the badger’s path, but the badger was undeterred. Though it brought its head down as if to charge, it proceeded forward at a slow, steady walk. To call it intimidating was an understatement. Raventail’s eyes darted from it to the still-stunned raccoon, back and forth, waiting for the badger to snap into full motion. Then Ploverpuddle yowled to him. Right. They had to run. He took one step back, then another, then turned on his heel and was off like the wind itself. In a matter of moments, his sprint brought him a rabbit-length from Ploverpuddle. ”Right—right behind you, remember?” he panted.

He’d have to go get the bird he’d caught later. Ploverpuddle’s rabbit was probably lost, too. Raventail glanced over his shoulder just long enough to be sure they weren’t leading the predators straight to camp, though by now, he wasn't sure it mattered whether or not they were followed. The foxes knew where they lived, somehow; maybe the whole moor did.

Raventail has fled the battle.
