Skies show no light [SKC Flood Topic]

Mistyrain had been awake from the moment Tinystar made the first call. "Run!" His words had chilled her to the bone. She felt the water seeping higher and higher above her paws as her Clanmates gathered in the clearing, frantically trying to figure out where to go. She was thankful for Tinystar's reassuring voice, ringing out over the rest with instructions. She moved quickly towards the camp exit as the water swirled higher and higher, soon to envelop her small figure.

Crack!

Her fur stood on end and every muscle tensed as the ground began to shake. At Tinystar's order, Mistyrain dashed towards the nearest tree. Her leap was sure, and she shot up the tree faster than she ever had before. Tinystar was already moving through the branches, and she hurried to follow. Highstones seemed to be their only hope now.

Daypaw dashed out of her den, and it distressed her to find that her paws splashed through a layer of water as she sprinted towards her leader. It only continued to rise. As she and other apprentices and warriors dashed about in a panic, desperately trying to do something helpful, a sickening crack sounded through the forest.

Her breath caught in her throat as a mighty rumble shook the whole of SkyClan. She could barely hear voices over the sound of rapidly approaching water, but as the rest of her Clan shifted in one swift motion towards the trees, she followed instinctively. Her paws were quick and sure as she pushed off the ground in a giant leap for the nearest tree. She collided with the trunk and clung there for a moment before she realized that the water would reach her if she stayed. She scrambled upwards, towards Sunpaw's receding pelt. She breathed a sigh of relief; he had made it too. Daypaw tried not to look down, where she had already glimpsed several of her Clanmates being taken by the rising wall of water.

Hawkstrike had been asleep in his nest, having a dreamless rest, when the yowls of his clanmates woke him up. Without waiting to figure out what was even going on he rushed out with claws outstretched and fur standing on end, an enraged expression in his face, expecting to see some kind of enemy in camp. However, when he didn’t, that battle-ready determination gave way to confusion, and it then gave way to panic as he realized what was going on.

Being born in the marshes of ShadowClan, he didn’t acknowledge the wet terrain until he noticed it, knowing it was not a natural thing for SkyClan. Not thinking it twice nor waiting for instructions from Tinystar, nor listening to them if he already gave them, he rushed towards the nursery, waking up queens and kits in a rather hurried way, grabbing the nearest kit he could find before quickly making his way out. He couldn’t care less who this kit was at the time. It was in danger, and he wouldn’t let them drown in the raising waters.

He rushed out of the nursery with the kit in his jaws, looking around to know what the clan was doing to quickly follow, but it was right then and there when he heard the echoes of what he could only describe as if the whole forest had suddenly kind of collapsed at the same time. It was just….so loud.

And then….he saw it. The wall of water coming straight towards camp. He turned on his heels as quickly as he could, in a mix of panic, survival instinct and adrenaline he somehow thought he could outrun the flood that was about to engulf the camp. It was obvious that he was wrong, as he felt the powerful water crash against him sooner than later


He may had grown in the wet terrain the marshes were, but he was by no means a good swimmer, and while he had learned slowly a couple tricks during his stay in SkyClan, he honestly never managed to be as good of a climber as the rest of the clan, so it wasn’t a real surprise for him when his claws failed to grasp one of the trees. He could only do the best he could to not drown nor let the kit he carried drown as well, wondering if he would even make it alive from this.

Moonlight was woken up by a warrior basically crashing against her. At first she considered the option of complaining for such rude action, but when she realized the panic spreading across the camp like wildfire, that idea was soon discarded. She had become a rather heavy sleeper lately, so she wasn’t surprised the screams failed to wake her up earlier.

She could barely hear her mate yelling, and she almost slipped on the water that was quickly raising. With a panicked expression, she quickly started to help the rest of her clanmates to evacuate the kits from the nursery as quickly as possible, knowing time was vital and they had none to lose.

When she was walking out from the nursery to look around and see if there was any kit left for her to scoop and the regroup with the clan, to know what their next move would be, she heard the booming sound that made the rest of the clan flinch as well. She wasn’t sure of where it even came from, the echo confusing her, only realizing what had happened when she turned around to face the wall of water with a terrified expression half a second before it collided with her at full force.

She felt the air getting knocked out of her lungs with the impact, which in turn caused her to panic. She started to struggle to reach the surface of the wave while being thrown around effortlessly by the current. It was then when she felt it, the burning pain on her lower half as she collided with a rather large rock the current was carrying with it. Whether it was due to adrenaline, panic, or a mix of both, she paid no mind to the pain, swimming the best she could before she felt her claws get hooked on the bark of one of the trees surrounding camp. Thanking StarClan , she was quick to climb up, out of the roaring waters and onto a branch. It was only then, when she started to relax, that she felt the burning pain again and looked down. She had a cut going from above her hip all the way down to her left paw…her leg felt numb. While the cut itself was thin, it was easy to tell it was deep, and a string of bright red mixed with the clear water that soaked her made its way from it, down the branch and dripped into the water below.

Spottedleap snarled at the realization that water had covered the camp floor, withdrawing a single forepaw in disgust. "Water? Here?" He meowed to no one in particular before the order to flee rang out. His ears pricked; he could hear something in the distance. Bad news. He didn't know what kind yet, but this was surely a bad sign, especially with the rain and the wind. The young warrior whipped his head around in search of Cloverpaw. His apprentice was the only thing on his mind as he marched around camp in search of the young cat, but his attention was again captured by the sound of a very distant crack. The waters were quickly rising around him, moving from his paws to lapping at his elbows, and the power was increasing with each moment he spent on the ground. Spottedleap looked up to see Firflower jumping into a tree branch, and he followed suit, leaping powerfully from the waters up towards the nearest tree branch. He sunk his claws into its bark, pulling his waterlogged body up onto it and then climbing up several more for good measure. Getting swept away wasn't an option.

Ashpaw had the oddest dream, it felt as though water was lapping at her fur. The grey cat opened her eyes to see that it was in fact NOT a dream and that SkyClan's camp was filled with water. She jumped up and exited the apprentice den immediately. Cats were scattered about camp and she was trying to find her family.

Before she could find anyone a crack that she knew would create a dreadful event sounded. The awful sound was followed by the rush of water through camp. Ashpaw moved towards a tree, but it was too late and she was carried away in the current. The apprentice's sight went black and that was the end of that for now.

Everything was beautiful for a moment. At first, all he could see was the white of the current, so powerful even as it rushed towards him. Then he saw the icky brown color the water had turned, more than just with sediment. It did not seem amazing or powerful, just destructive, and everything inside of him told him he had to get as far away as possible. Scrambling higher up the tree, he jumped to the next tree over, almost slipping off of the rain-slicked bark. Repeating the motion, he jumped to the next tree, digging his claws deep into the branch to prevent himself from falling. Soon he had built up a rhythm, jumping from branch to branch as the wave crashed around beneath him. Soon he would reach safety.
