The River is dead [RC Flood Topic]

Heronflight suddenly heard roaring waves coming for RiverClan, fast.  The gray tabby thought about all of the pain, all of the suffering he had endured.  When he first was an apprentice, to when he was RiverClan's, to regaining their trust, to what he has reached now.  The loss of his mate.. and his kits as well... and the one friend that he had when he was young.  The memories flooded through his mind, but the gray tabby stayed focused and grabbed ahold of a log.  However, he was too small to swim through the raging flood, and he was swept away from his clanmates.  May StarClan... he thought tiredly, light your path.

Larkfeather looked for a branch to grab on to as he struggled to stay afloat.  The raging river was much more dangerous than it was before.  The brown tabby swam as fast as he could, but he knew that some cats didn't have the strength to get past.  He was one of them. The brown tabby saw his dad, floating another direction. "Dad? DAD!" he called, but it was no use. He didn't know where his dad was going, and he didn't know where he himself was being pulled to.

Badgerpaw dashed for the nearest branch, but the flooded river was too fast. The she-cat squealed in horror as she got swept away from everything that she knew. The black-and-white she-cat tried to swim, but she just ended up flailing her forepaws and not being strong enough to swim with the others.

The distant sound of rushing water was a mere background noise to sleep. Sparkfrost, contented in his ignorance, did not initially notice that it was closer than the river. As the pooling liquid snaked around his paws and begun to sock into his fur, the dilute calico rolled onto his other side in an unconscious attempt to seek out comfort once more. Paws shook him and the tom blinked a few times before seeing the face of one of the many strange cats. No one had explained where he was yet. All that he knew was that there were plenty of cats and much more water. As he realized the tugging at his coat, there was a humored twitch of his whiskers, "And I thought this place could get any wetter. It is Riverclan, right?" He grinned up at the panicked she-cat, shaking his head ever so slightly at her unusual name for him. They were adamant on calling him Sparkfrost for some reason. That seemed off. Sparkkit seemed more appropriate. Star... lord had named him that or something.

He struggled to haul himself onto his paws, missing the gravity of the situation and seeing it as little more than an ironic nod to the name of this territory. Due to the underused muscles, his strain was in vain and his head still pounded at the idea of motion. Sparkfrost tettered uneasily for a moment, leaning on the nice she-cat. Regardless of the name thing, he'd immediately decided that he liked her. When the big tom appeared, his head tilted slightly to the side and he simply watched their exchange. These cats seemed determined to keep him safe even if he did not know for what purpose. Their names and identities were all mysteries that his ailing brain seemed unable to retain. As Jaystar helped to steady him, the young and mindless warrior allowed himself to be easily guided. Sparkfrost's movements were uneasy and severely uncoordinated but he followed along, finding churning the water easier as it rose ever so slightly. Unlike the frenzied nature of the rest of the cats, he merely accepted the strange and concerning occurrence, eventually speaking the thoughts aloud, "Is this the new nest? Do you live here now? Do we live here now? It's fairly appropriate with the whole river thing."

Dull green eyes had turned to his father, unbeknownst to him, as amusement danced in their depths. But any further remarks on the situation were cut short as mere mouselength of water instantly became a churning torrent of muck, brown water, and filth. Sparkfrost was shocked at first but realized how easily his paws navigated the beastly mess. It was as if it was second nature as if he was one of the water cats too. Had the reeling sensation in his head not begun again, it might have taken longer to acknowledge the exhaustion that threatened to drown him. As he was ripped away from Jaystar's grip, the tom's head was forced underneath the surface. Air supply was short and in his weakened state, not attempt could have saved him from the inevitable. Everything faded to black.

He'd been recovering in the medicine den for so long. Ospreykit could barely remember anything outside of being in the godforsaken den. He didn't really even know what the fuss, that woke him, was about. The large tom bumbled out of the den. "Mum?" his voice trembled as he called out. His eyes darted between the cats rushing about camp frantically. Fear begun to well in he young tom's gut. "Mum!" he called more despairingly. Had they forgotten him?

The tom leaped through the rising waters, looking for help. "Please don't leave me!" he wailed. His paws shook he'd never been so frightened. Then there was the crack and everything seemed to get worse. "Mum, please!" his voice shook hard as he broke down. Why had they forgotten him, what had he done?

The water surged forward, and Ospreykit was more than certain he was about to die. He closed squeezed his eyes shut waiting to feel the water wash over him, but instead felt someone hoisting him up by the scruff of the neck. The tom opened his eyes to see his mum, and a loud purr escaped his mouth. "Mum! You came back for me." It wasn't look before Finchstream deposited Ospreykit with Magpiepaw. Ospreykit flashed his brother a grin, he was safe now. All would be fine.

Weaselpaw was safe, she was with her family. She was fine. She hoped everyone else would be. The dumb ginger was still terrified though.

Goldeneye was the first to get hit, she was the first to leave camp after all. It was to be expected after-all, Starclan hated her. Goldeneye faced the rush of water with an inhale of air as she glared at the waves surging towards her. Her claws digging into the muddy ground as she faced the water with nothing more than an annoyed glare, she did not care for it, or any of this. She knew she would be alright, while her ancestors may have hated her now, demoted her of her rank, they would not kill her. They would spare her.

And spare her they did, water surged past her, knocking her off her paws. But sheer annoyance and stubbornness had her clinging to the ground, clinging to whatever shrubbery she could grasp. Once the roaring water seemed to give, Goldeneyes powerful Riverclan cat legs went to work, churning through the water as she trudged on. Windclan was not an option, it was highstones now.

All throughout RiverClan camp, cats wailed and screeched. Warriors, apprentices, kits, queens and elders—all were desperate to get to safety. Scorchclaw's ears rang with their cries, even as frenzy grew within him. Only the one voice he desperately wanted to hear was silent. Muddy water swirled around him, tugging at his long fur with a force stronger than most currents he had ever felt before. Already, the water level was almost to his chest. He had made certain that all the dens were empty, that no clanmate had been left behind. Only a cat willing to throw his life away would linger any longer. The only thing he could do now was pray that Adderfeather had already gotten to safety. Gritting his teeth, the large tabby turned back towards the direction of the camp's exit. He would take one or two of the kits from an overloaded queen, perhaps support a struggling swimmer. Everything would be fine. Together, they would all get through this flood. A little water had never stopped RiverClan.

Having never experienced a flood first-paw, Scorchclaw underestimated just how powerful one could be. In the next moment, nature proved him wrong with a deafening crack that seemed to shake the very skies. The large tabby drew his tufted ears back against his head. What... was that?! Perhaps it was instinct that warned him, perhaps he somehow sensed the danger. In the wake of the crack, a dull rumbling gradually filled the whole forest. His fur prickled uncontrollably. Something was coming—something even worse than the predicament they were already in. He had to warn them, warn them before it was too late. He opened his mouth, bellowing at the top of his lungs, "Hold on tight!" In the end, those were the only words he was able to get out.

Destruction incarnate flashed a merciless smile upon the RiverClan cats. During the split-second as the wave reared its head, Scorchclaw's mind froze. Oh, I see. He thought dumbly. The very river that they depended on to survive—that river had never been an enemy, but it had never been an ally either. He had already learned that truth the hard way. The waters overtook them with an unbridled fury. For how long he managed to hold on, Scorchclaw did not know. The last sight he saw was that of Heronflight being swept away. At least, he assumed it was Heronflight. When he mistakenly opened his mouth to call out after the warrior, water rushed in between his jaws. Immediately, his chest tightened with the need for air. His hold having loosened, the rushing waves seized him and ripped him free of the solid ground. Where was up? Where was down? He soon lost all sense of direction as he spun around within the water. Two of his claws had been ripped out, but he neither noticed or felt the pain. The blood from the wounds was rapidly diluted in the great amount of water. Would he drown here and now? Drown, just as Blackpaw had?

That's utter mousedung. RiverClan cat that he was, there was no way he could allow himself to drown. He had not earned the title of the fastest swimmer among RiverClan's warriors for nothing. As soon as he had overcome the initial shock of the flood, a burst of strength filled his body. The dark, murky water kept him from immediately knowing which the direction the surface was. However, a glimpse of light gave him a clue. Striking out with the long, powerful legs inherent of his heritage, he made his way towards what he assumed was the glimmer of the sun's rays. He turned out to be right. When his head finally broke the surface of the water, he immediately drew a deep breath. The camp was nowhere to be seen, much to his chagrin. Fighting the current would do no good. The only thing he could do for now was swim along with it, in search of something buoyant to climb onto.

Sunpaw stares after he mother. ”Yoir ganna leave me here?!” She shrieked. ”What would Sootcloud think?!” She yelled after she saw a huge way. She ducked her head and wrapped her front paws over her ears when the water cascaded on her. The breath was wiped out of her imeditaly and the force of the water threw the bolder off of her, the picked her up and threw her. Sunpaw tried to swim yet she was being pushed and she tried to claw he way through the water and stopped when she felt something furry besides her.

Lilytail felt her spine shiver as the cries of her clanmates began to arise. Cats were being swept away as the flood became as strong as ever. She desperately looked around for something to grab onto.

When she successfully had her paws full, she braced herself for the impact. She managed to stay "grounded" for the whole time. The warrior was rather anxious and scared to find any sign of her kits' whereabouts.

Something bumped into Lightstep's side and he jerked slightly, startled, only to see a flailing bunch of mottled pelt. For a moment his heart leaped, despite his panic: Mottledspark?! he hoped, but instantly the thought was dashed. Mottledspark had been missing for days; he certainly wouldn't show up during the flood. Not only that, but this cat was smaller and had more white...

"Sunpaw!" Lightstep gasped as he recognized his niece, Aspenstrike's daughter. Immediately the warrior lunged for the apprentice's scruff, grabbing onto it hopefully and helping her to lift her head above water. The young warrior was very surprised and concerned to feel how heavy and limp Sunpaw was in the water. "Are you ofay?" he asked through her fur, still paddling hard to keep them both above the current. It felt like she wasn't paddling at all - but she was still swimming with her front paws, wasn't she?
