A Huntin' We Will Go [closed]

Though quite reluctantly, Jaypaw had finished her morning routine of grooming down her unruly fur and wolfing down a piece of prey from the continuously replenishing pile. Her mentor, Cloudroar, likely had better things to do seeing as she couldn't pick out his familiar pelt among those in the bustling camp. She let out a guttural sigh, one not unlike a groan. She didn't have time to be out and about finding trouble, she needed to do some hunting so she might actually receive her warrior name- sooner rather than later, preferably. She picked over the warriors moseying about the camp, and her green eyes soon landed on SkyClan's newest deputy, Mistyrain. Padding up to her in a somewhat rushed pace, she didn't feel the need to beat around the bush. "I haven't got a clue where Cloudroar is, but I've got to go on a patrol. Could you take me out?" Even while Jaypaw was sitting, she remained at eye level with the grown cat. It was hard for her to tell if she was big, or if Mistyrain was small.

Mistyrain nodded to the apprentice. "Of course, Jaypaw," she affirmed. she stood, leading the apprentice out of camp. She trotted at a brisk pace through the territory, Jaypaw following close behind her. "How's your training going?" she asked the apprentice, turning her head slightly to look at the younger she-cat. She had hardly spoken to the apprentice yet, so she didn't know what she was like at all.

Coming to a stop in a well wooded area of SkyClan territory, Mistyrain nodded to Jaypaw. "Go ahead," she mewed, indicating that the apprentice should begin hunting. She noted a small rabbit, ears twitching, sitting several fox-lengths away. She gave chase, coming back a few moments later with the creature dangling from her mouth. She stowed it beneath a tree root, turning to observer Jaypaw as she hunted.

When the apprentice was finally given the okay from Mistyrain, she ventured out into the forested territory. Her nose was filled with the wonderful scents of prey of all types around her, but the sweet scent of a sparrow stood out to her the most. She stayed downwind of the tiny creature, knowing good and well that if it smelled her, it would fly away, right out of her reach. She dropped into the hunter's crouch that she'd nearly perfected over time, keeping her eyes on her target. When she made the rather far leap, she landed directly on top of the squawking bird. She hurriedly bit down onto it's neck, not wanting it to suffer any longer than it had to.

Mistyrain nodded, pleased with the apprentice's performance. "Good work, Jaypaw," she commented encouragingly. She was already an excellent hunter, despite her mentor's seeming lack of effort. It was good that the apprentices of SkyClan doing so well, she knew. This meant that the Clan could only grow stronger from where they were now.

Turning her mind to her own hunting skills, Mistyrain caught the scent of a shrew, which she spotted moments later scuffling at the base of a nearby tree. Dropping automatically into a hunting crouch, she took slow pawsteps towards her quarry. At exactly the right moment, the small deputy leaped, landing with one paw on the small body of the shrew. She killed it with a swift bite and stashed it alongside her rabbit to retrieve later. Turning to Jaypaw again, she nodded expectantly.
