| Another apprentice, another training lesson.
The strict warrior was waiting at the entrance of the camp as the dawn slowly approached. Silverfang was waiting for her newest apprentice, Mosspaw, Batfang's son. Since that hunting patrol, she didn't like the charcoal tom a lot but she knew that she shouldn't blame the kits for the mistakes of their parents. That was what she learned from Scorchpaw. |

| Mosspaw woke slowly, blearily opening his eyes…
The little tom glanced over a wall of woven reeds; the soft, early light of morning peeking through the cracks. He pillowed himself among moss bedding – and must’ve fallen asleep near the entrance, too; Mosspaw felt the crisp air tickle and dry his nose, his whiskers twitching.
The black tom yawned, tingles of energy shooting down his limbs. It was time to wake up! Up, up, up! Mosspaw shook the drowsiness from his pelt, ready to spring into the excitement of a new day. Maybe he could get Tinytip to wake up, too—!
But when he turned around – expecting to see the expanse of green and feathers of the nursery; his mother’s warm form curled in the background – Mosspaw gasped. He wasn’t in the nursery anymore!
The events of the previous day flooded back to him at the sight of the other apprentices – all snoring mounds of fur. No wonder it was cold, Mosspaw thought, whiskers twitching. He wasn’t snuggling with his mother anymore; snuggled up to her warmth. Nope, he was a real, independent apprentice now—
And oh! Oh! That meant that Silverfang was—
“Yes!” Mosspaw exclaimed, shooting to his paws – sleepiness vanishing in the wake of the lightning of excitement that streaked through his veins. “Yes!”
Silverfang had said training! And at dawn, too – just like Mosspaw usually woke! He didn’t have to wander around camp bored for hours! Or bother Tinytip, either!
Like a little bolt of lightning himself, the little black tom rushed from the apprentice den – and spotted his mentor at the entrance of camp! ______________________________________

| Waiting with her tail waving from one to another impatiently, the silvery she-cat noticed a black furball approaching her at high speed. When the tom was in front of her, she lashed her messy tail and glanced at him strictly yet not angered. "See who finally decided to wake up and join his training lesson. You're almost late, Mosspaw, so let's get going now. We don't have the whole day." She mewed before starting to the exit of the camp.
As soon as her paws stepped out, the water reached her fur and she entered the stream that surrounded and protected the camp from intruders. Like a fish in the water, Silverstream enjoyed the cold feeling of the small course of water and when she left it, she shook her body to dry her fur a bit. With her blue eye, she glanced back at Mosspaw making sure he was fine. Although the stream wasn't deep enough to drown him, it was probably his first time leaving the camp without his mother. However, today they weren't to the river to train swimming. The mentor had a different plan.
Silverfang continued walking with a relaxed but quick speed. She was trained to move like that and the apprentice would have to strengthen his muscles to do the same in the future. Together, the two cats wandered through the reeds and streams but those were soon left behind and replaced by tall beech trees. That was the place where they were going to train. |

| Silverfang didn't waste time.
Mosspaw had only just reached his stern mentor before she began taking off -- clearly expecting him to follow. Flicking his ears at the suddenness, Mosspaw almost tripped over his paws in his haste to scramble after her. Silverfang was fast! And she had longer legs, too!
The river surrounding camp glistened in the morning light -- sparkling little tiny suns as Mosspaw dipped his little black paws in. He knew how to swim -- Tinytip taught him, of course! -- but he hadn't ever been allowed in the river for long, or without his mother a few mouse-lengths from him. It was kind of exhilarating, this new independence -- and with an enthusiastic push, he leaped into the water!
Mosspaw didn't realize that being an apprentice changed so much! It was like the few moments of Jaystream calling him by his new name changed everything -- one moment Mosspaw was too young and tiny to swim on his own, and in the next he was strong and capable enough to handle the currents.
It was kind of a trial, however -- Mosspaw didn't realize how hard swimming was until he'd done it under the river's full force, and on his own!
While the water felt cool and energizing against his fur, even after a few strokes, Mosspaw could start to feel the strain. He was a little tom, much like his mother -- when the water pulled it pulled hard, trying to drag him off course. He drifted a few times, but the challenge only spurred Mosspaw on -- with renewed vigor, the young apprentice reached the opposite shore!
"Whoa, that was kind of tough -- but super amazing, too!" Mosspaw piped up, breathing a little heavily -- but his sleek, silver-furred mentor was completely unfazed! "You do this every day, Silverfang?"
But his mentor didn't slow her pace. With long, purposeful strides, Silverfang continued on into Riverclan territory -- through the forest of reeds and the web of thin streams. Mosspaw's eyes widened as he saw the stretch of land -- each little stream glittering like a thousand shiny pebbles. It was breathtaking!
The little tom bounded to keep up with Silverfang, jaw a little slack as he tried to soak up as much of his surroundings as he could, but the pace wasn't as hard on him as the river was. He still felt a little winded, but Mosspaw was good at this stuff! His enthusiasm filled his limbs, pushing him forward.
"I'm so glad you like to get up at dawn, too!" Mosspaw told her excitedly -- the young apprentice loved mornings! He knew not everyone agreed -- but he was glad Silverfang did. "Oh! Do you always get up this early? Will we always get up this early for training? ______________________________________

| The she-cat was a bit surprised by the tom's excitement about waking up early. Apprentice usually didn't like to be up at dawn considering that during their kithood they could sleep whenever they want. However, it was better this way. An excited apprentice was always better than a grumpy one. "Yes, we'll always be up this early. A warrior must not waste any precious second to provide their clan and as an apprentice, you'll learn to use every second of your day to be useful to your clan. That's why you don't have to be awake before dawn only for our training days but for every day of your life." She answered with a serious tone of voice before stopping in the middle of a large clearing surrounded by large trees.
Silverfang turned her whole body to Mosspaw, ready to start training. "First of all, a Riverclan must learn four important skills: hunting, fighting, swimming and climbing. Today, we will start with basics of hunting and climbing. Everything begins with your crouch." The warrior lowered her body as she was going to leap over a prey. She moved around slowly, showing Mosspaw how he should keep quiet as he walked so the prey wouldn't escape. "When you hunt, you must always be focused on two things: keep your sight on your objective and make the less noise you can. Show me what you can do and find something to catch. I'll be watching."
OOC: Use the hunting system, please ;D Just to check you know how to use it |

| A lot of the adult cats were pretty serious, but Silverfang was super serious, Mosspaw thought as he padded beside his mentor. She was intense, which usually meant the little tom just prepared himself to get yelled at, but part of Mosspaw felt in awe of Silverfang -- he could hear the dedication in her voice, bleeding into her words. She meant them. "Waking up for training and hunting and warrior stuff? Every day of my life?" Mosspaw echoed -- it was so exciting! He already got up at dawn -- but to do exciting things every day sounded amazing! To be honest, he didn't quite get what Silverfang was so grave about -- it did sound really fun! -- but before the little tom could say anything more, it seemed they arrived at their destination. It was like a forest! As they walked there were tall, intersecting beech trees around them; Mosspaw's eyes darted from side to side, green eyes widening further! The territory of little running streams and reeds seemed to dry out into a forested clearing, where eventually Silverfang stopped, turning her intense gaze to Mosspaw. The stop was sudden, and the distracted apprentice yelped a little -- nearly running into his mentor! Mosspaw sheepishly dug his paws into the dirt -- drier than he was used to -- but Silverfang seemed not to bother herself, continuing on her explanation. "Hunting, fighting, swimming, and climbing... Got it!" Mosspaw repeated to himself, watching with rapt attention as his mentor began crouching, walking lightly across the ground in demonstration. His ears perked forward. Eventually her attention returned to him, but Mosspaw thought he got what Silverfang was doing! Mosspaw had stalked leaves and puddles and unsuspecting mothers before! Then she seemed to wait, watching him. "You want me to try and catch something? Like, for real?" Mosspaw said, a little suprised -- he'd only caught imaginary stuff before. But then he nodded enthusiastically, feeling energized -- after all, what could really be different? "Oh! I got it! I got it! And I'll bring you the best prey ever!"Mosspaw looked to the side -- scanning the tall, amazing trees around them, like he were playing hide-and-seek again. It was pretty much the same, he decided. It was like looking for a cat's fur behind the reeds, or peeking out from the water... and preparing to pounce, too! Aware of Silverfang's eyes on him, Mosspaw sunk into a crouch -- attempting to be quiet and sneaky! Mosspaw was pretty good at the finding, but being sneaky was harder. Still -- Mosspaw crawled forward, super cool... looking for the kinds of stuff he saw at the fresh-kill pile. There was green vegetation, like back home but not, and the pale body of the trees... A stream ran beside them, sparkling prettily; some of the only movement beyond the sway of the leaves and branches. Mosspaw didn't give up, though! Moving forward, the little tom crawled in between the trees, just under and to the side of a bush. Oh! The smells were all so different! Mosspaw shuffled inside the plant -- captivated by the way light fell through the little holes. The young apprentice was examining the glossy leaves, distracted by the smell, when he noticed something... like little thumps beneath his paws. Snapping his eyes to the right, he saw a furry little creature scamper by -- and just outside his bush! Forgetting about being quiet, Mosspaw let out an enthusiastic noise as excitement filled him, and he pounced! When Mosspaw landed, it was awkwardly -- his paw hitting a tree root and making him roll across the grassy foliage. Naturally... with no mouse in sight. But Mosspaw only laughed as he fell in a tangled pile, his limbs aching a bit. This was fun! Better than imaginary! "I can't wait to tell Tinytip!"But then Mosspaw looked up, eyes still sparkling with joy... only to hear a thundering growl behind him! --------------------------------- The canine was hungry. And irritated. Very irritated. His humans had forgotten to feed him -- again! -- and so the creature had spent the day in a foul sort, snarling and yanking on the chain hooked to his neck. He hated the chain! There were always those long-legged, large creatures that he longed to chase -- just out of his reach. It drove him crazy -- into growling, noisy fits, day after day. Until the length around his neck snapped -- the chain falling uselessly by the oak tree imprisoning him. The canine had freedom -- and began running, hard and fast and without caring where! Eventually, he found himself sniffing under a fence, and splashing through little currents of water, and winding through trees... hunger still clawing at his belly. He wanted to snarl, sniffing furiously to find food-- --when he found it, right beyond the trees. The food was little -- maybe a tenth of his size! -- and silver, and the canine's ears perked as it stared intently somewhere to the side of him. Unaware. Finally! He would eat! The canine's belly growled as he snarled -- lunging! It's jaws snapped on air -- missing the thing's neck -- but it still hit it solidly, knocking the cat across the ribs! | The silvery warrior watched her apprentice leaving in search of what she requested. She settled down on a few fallen leaves and she waited with her eyes always focused on the small young tom. When he disappeared of her sight, she looked at the last place she saw him expecting to see him back soon with prey on his jaws. But that hope soon vanished when her ears heard his happy scream. Silverfang hissed softly, a bit annoyed but how fast he forgot about what she just said. "Why all my apprentices are not good at hunting?" She mewed softly not noticing the upcoming danger until it was too late. First, she saw the shadow over her. Then... she felt pain. "Ah!" She yelped when those fangs entered her flesh. But her surprise didn't last for too long. Instead of fear, the anger and adrenaline filled her body and she managed to escape from the dog's mouth with a swift movement. Once she was on the ground, the warrior reared up and slashed its face fiercely. "You're dead!" She hissed with her fur bristling on her back. As usual, Jaystream organized a dawn patrol with a few warriors including Spotfur. The sun was bright and everything seemed in peace since they left the camp. But not everything could remain that way. While they were walking, his sensitive nose caught the scent of a predator he knew well. He turned his head violently to the origin of that smell and soon after that, the barks and hisses could be heard. "Spotfur, come with me! The rest of you, go back to the camp and inform Ivystar! Tell Goldeneye that we might need her help soon!" He ordered with a desperate voice. After Wolfsong's death... he couldn't bear the idea of losing another of his clanmates under the claws and jaws of another predator. Running as fast as he could, he reached the clearing where he saw Spotfur's mother fighting a huge canine that was clearly hungry. He didn't hesitate a second. His instincts immediately told him to fight and that was what he did. The deputy bit the dog's back leg hard with his fangs, trying to distract it from the she-cat. Jaystream used Teeth grip, dealing 13 damage and costing 20 stamina.Dog124/150 HP 330/350 SP Jaystream100/100 HP 260/280 SP |

| Mosspaw's fur stood on end as he heard the deep, vicious snarling -- and from where Silverfang was! Fun forgotten, the little black tom leaped to his paws -- and he could see it then, through the trees! It was huge, and brown, and making ferocious noises... and was that Silverfang fighting it?! Adrenaline filling him -- shocking his system -- and at the sight of something red shining in the sunlight Mosspaw found himself running, rushing forward. It felt like a game -- almost surreal, as the monster reared on the intense silver she-cat -- but with a yowl, Mosspaw kept going, running for his mentor. "Silverfang!"
He hardly noticed the older warrior latching onto the beast's leg -- Mosspaw just leaped, his unsheathed claws raking down the monster-creature's belly! It was almost like fighting ambush games he'd played with his mother -- except now, his heart beat loudly in his ears, claws pulling through thick fur; a thick, acrid scent choking his mouth. -------------- The canine screeched -- its food slicing little lines across his muzzle -- but that only made it more enraged. Growling fiercely, the canine lunged again -- aiming for its thin little neck, to snap deliciously between it jaws. But his snap was cut short when he felt something on his hind leg -- burning like fire! It was another food-creature! In pain and with anger clouding its mind, the canine hardly noticed another set of claws snagging his side, and thrashed -- kicking its legs and snapping furiously for the one latching onto it! ------------------ Mosspaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage to dog and costing 10SP. | Spotfur gave a nod to his deputy but couldn't help but wonder why Jaystream had chosen him. There were plenty of stronger warriors on the patrol. It was probably an on-the-spot choice. Nonetheless, he raced after the tom, leaping over streams and ignoring the bluejay he had caught but dropped. He stopped to see his mother, Silverfang, and one of the kits from the medicine cat den raid, Mosspaw. And a furry sharp-fanged dog, with his mother's blood on its teeth. his gaze darkened. "You're going to pay for that, mutt." He growled under his breath. Foxes were bad enough. But a dog... A fox could kill his friends and family as apprentices. A dog could kill even Jaystream, if he was alone. No cat- or other predator- could ever mess with his family. Not now. Snowpaw's voice rang in his head from his Moonstone journey. You may still be able to save many of your Clanmates' lives when they are in danger, She had told him. Maybe now was the time he would save someone at last. So far he hadn't been able to. He went to attack the dog. Revenge would be his.

| The she-cat could hear her son's voice and her odd eyes barely glanced how the deputy managed to slip under the dog's paws and bit its legs before being pushed away. Silverfang pretended to fall because of the wounds to distract the animal but instead, she slashed its neck when it was close enough. After she felt the blood painting her paws, the fiery she-cat stood up and jumped back to Spotfur's side. "We must drive this dog away!"**** The deputy growled when he was tossed away and his back ached when he stopped rolling over the ground. However, that didn't stop the strong warrior. It was amazing!
Feeling the strength of the super-powered warriors at his back, Mosspaw rushed the beast again -- tackling it full-force at its side!

The canine screeched, feeling the fiery pain erupt all over his body -- burning warmth trickling down his fur to coat his skin, hot and sticky. It was as if his chain were biting deep across his body! But the hunger in his belly was overwhelming -- the rage climbing -- and the canine snapped at the food-creature closest to him.
His jaws sank into loose flesh -- tearing at the scruff of its neck and part of an ear.
