Midday Mischief [closed]

A light snowfall dusted the wilted reeds that encircled RiverClan’s camp, coating the half-frozen territory in a fine layer of partially solid snow. But despite the bitter chill of the late afternoon, Adderpaw could hardly keep herself still. Whether it was restlessly bouncing through the camp, relentlessly pestering some of the older Warriors, or simply causing some other sort of ruckus, it was clearly evident that the newly-named apprentice was bored.

Screeching to a halt and dramatically rolling onto her side, Adderpaw began to wriggle about in the snow, desperate to entertain herself.

Lilytail let out an audible giggle as she watched Adderpaw roll around. She assumed the apprentice was bored by the way she acted. The young warrior walked up to Adderpaw. The apprentice hadn't yet noticed her. "Having fun there Adderpaw?" she asked, a teasing glint in her eyes. She poked the apprentice gently and soon joined her as she dropped down onto the ground. "If you're so bored, would you like to join me on a patrol?" she asked with a contagious smile.

Lavenderpaw tilted her head to one side at the sight of her older sister rolling on the ground. What was she doing this time? She was about to walk up to Adderpaw when Lilytail beat her to it. She overheard Lilytail offer Adderpaw a chance to go on a patrol with her. A patrol did sound good. She quickly made her way to the other she-cats. "H-Hello. W-What are you guys up to?" she asked softly.

Scorchpaw emerged out of the apprentice's den just in time to hear Lilytail say something about going on a patrol. The fluffy tom's ears perked up at the sound of a chance to stretch his paws. "A patrol? Can I come with you?" The words were out of his mouth before he had even gotten a good look at the other two cats with Lilytail. Upon a closer look, he recognized Lavenderpaw and Adderpaw. For some weird reason, the latter was lying on the snowy ground.

Adderpaw sprawled onto her back with a soft puff of effort, her stone colored fur becoming laden with clumps of ice and snow as she did so. At the sound of Lilytail's voice, the fluffy young she-cat craned her neck up awkwardly to catch a glimpse of the white she-cat, her round features alight with interest. Several of her older littermates had often given her short little lessons in the art of hunting, but she hadn't gotten a proper chance to actually try them out. "Yes!" Adderpaw trilled, quickly letting out a short sneeze afterwards to clear away the small clumps of snow that still clung to the soft fur upon her face.

Reaching out with strong forepaws and gently snagging Lavenderpaw's thick fur, Adderpaw playfully yanked her younger littermate down into the snow beside her, sending up a small flurry of partially frozen snow into the air all around them. Tugging Lavenderpaw's head onto the soft fur of her chest, the apprentice turned to gaze at Scorchpaw with gleaming eyes. "We're going hunting!" She sang out loudly, causing several cats to turn and look at the commotion with curious eyes, "I can finally leave camp."

Heronpaw was one of those cats. Overhearing her, the gray tabby walked towards the forming patrol. "Can I join?" he mewed. Patrols, patrols, patrols. Especially hunting patrols. Hunting patrols can stop this war. Or at least feed RiverClan. The warrior-aged apprentice sat down with the other cats, waiting for a reply.

"Geez, four apprentices to one warrior, guess I better tag along." Minnowslip meowed dramatically as if she was offering a great service to their clan, whilst bounding over to where her sister, Adderpaw and Lavenderpaw were grappling in the snow. The warrior blanketed them both with snow as she kicked up a flurry to coat them thoroughly, whiskers twitching with amusement at how they resembled a snowed on tree.

"Have you practiced the forms I taught you?" She asked her snow-coated sisters, falling onto the earth to roll around in the snow herself. She liked how it clung to her, bursts of icy bites against her skin that kept her alert. Most were disgusted by the snow, but if it wasn't for the pesky fact that the snow meant no prey, she wanted it to be snowing forever.

Lilytail grinned as others began to join them. "Alright-alright, you all can come! Follow me guys! And thanks Minnowslip for the help. I'll really need it especially with that one!" The warrior signaled to Adderpaw when she spoke the last sentence. She headbutted Adderpaw and flicked Lavenderpaw's ear as she passed them heading to the camp entrance. She turned around with a large smile. "C'mon! I'll leave you all if you don't hurry!~" she purred playfully. 'This patrol should be fun.' she thought to herself.

Lavenderpaw squealed as she was pulled onto the ground by her sister Adderpaw. She huffed with a pout and began to try and bury the other she-cat in the snow. She failed as her face was pressed into Adderpaw's chest. She looked up at Minnowslip with a not-so-intimidating glare when the warrior began to cover them in snow. She shook her head to try and shake off the powdery substance. She looked up once again to answer Minnowslip's question, "I have been! B-But I need more practice." She rolled into Minnowslip when she joined Adderpaw and her in the snow. The fluffy apprentice jumped up at the sound of Lilytail's voice. She flinced when her ear was flicked. Lavenderpaw nodded and quickly joined the white warrior at the camp entrance.

Scorchpaw trotted after Lilytail, big paws crunching down on the snow. As he exhaled, his breath formed a small cloud before him. They had a lot of cats on this patrol. Hopefully, that meant that they could catch a lot of prey too.

Still holding Lavenderpaw to her chest, Adderpaw gazed at Heronpaw and Minnowslip with playful eyes, exposing a wide, lopsided grin in response to Minnowslip's grandiose statement. A muffled squawk escaped her mouth as her older littermate showered them in snow, eventually releasing Lavenderpaw from her tight grasp so that she could brush away all the cold snow that now clung to her face. Sneezing loudly to force the snow out of nose, the fluffy grey apprentice remained sprawled as she listened to Lilytail and Minnowslip talk. "That one? I would never cause trouble!" Adderpaw echoed, a faux indignant tone filling her voice, before quickly scrambling to her paws.

"I managed to sneak half way up on Ivystar with what you taught us!" Adderpaw bragged, bouncing ahead of the patrol, kicking up massive clumps of snow as she did so, "The only reason she saw me was 'cause Splashwillow yelled at me for leaving the den whenever I wasn't supposed to." Skidding to a halt beside Lilytail, the wild-furred apprentice swung around to gaze at all the other cats who were waiting alongside them, "How 'bout a hunting contest? I bet I could catch more than all of the 'paws here." Her gaze swung from Scorchpaw to Heronpaw and then to Lavenderpaw, a friendly challenge evident in the depths of her bright eyes.

Heronpaw was listening to Adderpaw's bold words, including a hunting contest! "You're on, Adderpaw!" the young tom mewed to her.

Scorchpaw narrowed his green eyes slightly at Adderpaw's words. Oh, so she thought she could catch more prey than they could, did she? Despite only having been made an apprentice not long ago? It did not take long for the fluffy apprentice to decide what he wanted to do. Scorchpaw was not one to turn down a challenge, and his pride did not allow him to turn down Adderpaw's. 'I'm in." He mewed, flicking his ear. "Let's see if you can really catch more prey than I can." It seemed that this hunting patrol was going to be a fun one.

"Alright, braggart, let's see if you can live up to your words. I bet Lavenderpaw will catch more, she's quiet, and loud kits always scare off prey." She teased her sister, cuffing her ear as she walked lightly in front of the gaggle of apprentices. Then she heard light fluttering in the distance, followed by the rustling of feathers. By luck, a small flock of doves it seemed had come down to feast on the new moon's bountiful shoots.

"If we're quick, we could probably snag a couple of them. Ready?" Her belly was pressed into the cold earth, claws unsheathed for the catch. The distance wasn't too far, and the conditions were favourable. But birds wasn't RiverClan's usual hunting choice, it wasn't going to be an easy one.

Lavenderpaw shoved Adderpaw playfully when the she-cat's gaze was directed at her. "Minnowslip's right. I'll catch more t-than you!" she said with a teasing gaze. The apprentice followed them out and stopped when her sister pointed at some doves. Lavenderpaw nodded and couched down. She was born ready! The she-cat then pounced. She quickly caught one gracefully and killed it instantly. She grabbed it and quickly hid, not wanting to scare off any more.
