A Frosty Evening (Closed)

Frost watched him with hopeful eyes for his response. At first it seemed like she'd get to learn it, but then she heard it in his voice. The doubt. "Oh.." She meowed a bit dejected, tail drooping a bit. Then she brightened a bit. "That's alright Night! I can just learn something else first." She responded in her usual bright voice, but Night offered a better idea. "Ooh! That's a great idea!" She purred happily, leaning into the touch of his tail across her shoulder before realizing what she was doing. Almost as soon as Night withdrew his tail was the moment she realized and averted her eyes, blushing profusely. Giving her chest fur a few embarrassed licks, she nodded quickly. "Y-yeah that'd b-be great." She stammered softly before joining the older tom next to the tree. Copying exactly what he was doing, she looked at him, "Now what?" SHe asked inquisitively.

Night's face was still flushed a bit from his unexpected embarrassment, but as he began to focus on the techniques he had learned his heartbeat began to slow to a normal speed, and his eyes narrowed in logical concentration.  Okay, what next?  Oh yes..is my position correct?  Yes, posture?  Yep.  Here we go!  "Okay, make sure that your paws as as far up the trunk as you can get..."  After checking this and extending his legs even more, Night's green eyes sparkled as he fell into his natural element; creating and sharing knowledge.  "...and then you need to use your back paws to spring yourself up the tree, like this!"  Night leaped upward, using the trunk to balance himself, and dug his back claws into the bark for just a moment, before using the power in his back legs to launch himself up the tree, pushing off of the tree trunk for momentum.  He didn't go too far though; he stopped halfway up the oak and looked back down at Frost with a smile, hoping she had understood.

Frost nodded, golden flecked gaze eagerly taking in the information that Night gave her. "Okay.." She mumbled as she attempted to copy his stance, her eyes flicking back and forth between his and hers before she finally got it. "So, like this." She meowed before Night shot up the tree almost as gracefully as a SkyClan cat himself. "Wow!" She breathed out, bunching up her muscles as she readied herself for the climb. She pushed off with her hind legs, her claws digging into the bark, as she hurled herself up the tree, not so gracefully, to stand on a limb close to Night's. "You.. make it.. look so.. easy." She meowed between deep breaths. Her chest was heaving with the effort of using her muscles in a way she'd never done before, but it felt amazing. She was exhilarated. Her ears flicked as the wind blew and the leaves all around them rustled softly. "I think I understand squirrels now!" She laughed jokingly, having finally caught her breath. "Though why they go through all that work for just a small nut bewilders me." She mumbled, giggling softly.

Night watched approvingly as Frost launched herself up the tree truck after him; although not as graceful as his own ascent, she had a firm grip on the tree, and the concept.  Amused by her response, the jet-black tomcat laughed; "Don't worry, the more you practice the easier it will get!  I've only been working on replicating the technique for a little while, I still have a lot to learn myself!"  Squinting his eyes in a mirthful sort of way, he couldn't help but be charmed by her tangent about squirrels, his broad smile softening into something much sweeter, and loving.  The end of his tail curling slightly, Night let out a low, almost whispered purr, his vivid green eyes reflecting the sunlight.  "It must be for the view...come on, let's keep going!  This is only the beginning."  Leaving off cryptically, Night pushed off once again with his back claws, rushing even higher up the tree.
