The Leopard who Guides the Blaze - Closed for Mamiboo

Leopardclaw's maw stretched in a loud yawn as he pulled himself out of the warrior's den, his spotted golden fur still ruffled and messy from sleep. The morning sun had just begun to rise above the horizon, and the camp still sat in calm silence. Extending his spine in a long stretch, the young warrior gave his pelt a few quick lick to smooth some of the more prominent tufts before padding over to the apprentice's den. Peeking his head inside, the tom-cat gazed around for a moment before his caught sight of Blazingpaw; his voice soft but commanding, he growled "Blazingpaw, training." Backing out, the large warrior sat down a few paces away from the den, and lost himself to his thoughts while he waited for his new apprentice.

I'm still surprised that Darkstar gave me an apprentice. I've been a warrior for barely a moon, and that fight with Rockthorn sure put a dent in my public reputation. Thinking about the savage incident triggered a sharp ache in his shoulder and on his belly, and with a twitch of his ear he felt air rush through the jagged tear that would always remain there. That idiotic mouse-brain....thanks to him we both ending up in the medicine den, nursing wounds and fresh scars. Well, these injuries still hurt quite a bit; I'll have to go easy when it comes to training today. Besides, Morningshine probably taut him a little bit already before she went missing Hazel eyes narrowing, he locked his sight on the den entrance, waiting for his apprentice to emerge.

Blazingpaw, eyes drooping, raised to his paws, his eyes flickering around the room lazily. He stretched, almost falling to the floor in the process. When he saw Leopardclaw outside, he perked up, rushing towards him with his fluffy tail in the air. 'This is the day i get a new mentor!' he remembered happily, then looked up to the young, spotted warrior. "Hey!" he greeted him excitedly, "Are you Leopardclaw? What are you teaching me?" Blazingpaw thought that the warrior looked a bit younger than his former mentor, but soon brushed it off as a dumb thought.

His old companion then came to mind. 'How did she go missing?' he wondered, suddenly feeling confused. He remembered the countless days he spent asking the cats where she had gone, until he was desperate. But then he realised his new mentor was standing in front of him, and he quickly forgot about his thoughts.

Leopardclaw's ears twitched in a silent greeting as Blazingpaw emerged from the den, and slowly stood up. As the apprentice talked, the golden warrior swept an examining gaze over the young tom, taking into account his natural build and size for what training route to take. He seems strong; likely he'll be a great hunter and fighter in time. Broken from his thoughts by Blazingpaw's inquisitive questions, Leoparclaw nodded and replied; "Yes, I'm Leopardclaw, and today I was thinking we could start with some hunting, and maybe move onto a bit of battle training later." Turning, the serious young warrior flicked his tail towards the fresh-kill pile and meowed "You should eat something before we go, you'll need the energy." Standing aside, Leopardclaw waited for his apprentice to choose a piece, paws shuffling impatiently, expressing his deep excitement. I'm a mentor! I hope I can be just as good of one as Grasswhisker was.....

Blazingpaw, suddenly feeling as if there was a black hole in his stomach, grabbed a juicy vole off the pile and practically inhaled the early meal, feeling satisfied. He turned to his mentor, who was shuffling excitedly in the dirt and dust with his paws. Blazingpaw, questioning his excitement, padded up to him, then realised his coat was a mess. He struggled to quickly groom a few sections of his pelt where it was worse, nervous of what the older cat would think about his cleaning habits. "Are we ready?" he asked finally.

Leopardclaw took the brief moment while his apprentice was eating to groom his own pelt a bit more, avoiding the still tender remains of the wounds Rockthorn had left on his pelt.  His mind raced, trying to internally prepare for the training ahead of them, and zoned out into his thoughts.  Where did Grasswhisker take me for my first training session?  Oh yes, the river.  She also took me on a tour, but Blazingpaw has probably seen most of it by now....  The golden warrior jumped slightly, when the young tom's voice rose up unexpectedly from beside him, but he quickly regained his composure.  Nodding, Leopardclaw stood up and meowed a friendly reply; "Yes, let's go."  Trotting out of the camp entrance, he kept up a steady speed towards the river for a little while before glancing behind him, making sure his apprentice was keeping up.

Blazingpaw was shaking with excitement. He was pondering where they would go when Leopardclaw announced that they were ready. His paws crunched through the twigs and leaves covering the terrain as Leopardclaw lead him to their training session. He took in the warm Newleaf scents as they arrived at the river, which was frothing and speeding past at an incredible speed. He wondered what they would be doing at the river. Battle practice? Hunting? The possibilities were endless. At least to him.

Leopardclaw skidded to a halt a little ways from the muddy river bank, his claws tearing up the grass and churning the soil as he stopped.  Turning, he nodded approvingly at Blazingpaw, seeing that the tom had managed to keep up a steady pace throughout the run.  Gazing around thoughtfully, he realized just how different the forest looked at this time of year.  Trees were beginning to grow their leaves and blossoms; flowers and herbs were starting to pop out of the soft ground.  It was beautiful, but there was no time today to revel in it.  The mentor-apprentice pair had work to do. "Right, let's start with hunting.  Show me your best crouch."  Leopardclaw bent down, his tail lifted carefully off of the ground, in the hunters crouch to show an example to the young tom.

Blazingpaw mimicked his mentor almost perfectly for a few seconds, and then raised his hind legs too high, toppling over into the mud and dirt. Shaking the grime off his muzzle, he tried again, raising his tail off the ground and lowering his head and body like his mentor was showing. His eyes darted around, glancing at the insects flying through the air and the rushing water just in front of him. He knew he wasn't doing it perfectly, as his posture was a bit wobbly, but he was doing it, and he was proud of himself.

Leopardclaw held back an amused chuckle at Blazingpaw's flub, but didn't scold him for it. He quickly corrected it, and the young warrior knew from experience that it took time to totally perfect your crouch. Standing back up, he nodded approvingly; "Great, just remember to keep your legs in the right position so you can balance, and catch prey instead of soil." Stepping back a pace, the golden spotted tom gestured with his tail towards the open land, and meowed quietly; "Now, try to find some prey."

Blazingpaw slowly crept across the forest floor, his mouth slightly open to breath in the forest scents, and his ears pricked for any rustling in the bushes. He froze as he drank in a prey scent. He guessed it was a bird, since he had smelled them so many times on the fresh-kill pile and in the wilderness, but it might have been a squirrel. It turned out to be a bird, though, and he roughly pounced onto it, almost letting it escape through a gap in his paws. He quickly bit down on it and took its life, then carried it back to his mentor.

(That's basicly how it goes, but there is an option for an automatic dice roll when you make a new post.  Underneath the posting table there is a box titled Dice Roll.  Choose Hunting Dice, and choose how many rolls you want it to do.  You'll get a message under your post, with the number you rolled and you can edit your post accordingly.  If you did that dice roll like this already, than nvm this, but it's really up to you how to do it.  I'll show you the other way now, just for an example c:)

Leopardclaw was shocked by his apprentice's easy catch.  This young tom was clearly very naturally talented, and the spotted golden tom couldn't hold back his proud smile.  "Great catch Blazingpaw!  Very clean, you're going to be an impressive hunter."  Compliments were few and far between from Leopardclaw, and only cats who truly deserved it ever heard them.  Suddenly, the large cat's ears swiveled around; the sound of rustling leaves and pattering paws caught his attention.  Turning, he saw a mouse dash from the safe of it's bush, and bolt towards a nearby hole. Acting fast, Leopardclaw whipped around and caught the rodent by the tail, pulling it closer before dealing the killing blow to it's spine. Turning, he grinned at Blazingpaw with his freshly caught prey hanging from his jaws.

Blazingpaw grinned brightly at his mentor after being praised, and gazed in awe at his mentor's hunting skills. His ears pricked, as a lizard scattered up a tree after being disturbed by a vole nibbling at a seed. He realised, if he was clever, he would be able to catch both of the prey animals. He hunched up his body, stalking carefully to the vole first. However, he moved much too fast, and the small, furry critter scampered away into the leaf-litter before he was a tail-length away. But the lizard still was resting up the tree, giving Blazingpaw an easy catch by pouncing up and sinking his claws into the scaly creature. Although it wasn't as big and luscious as the lucky catch beforehand and the plump vole, it was something, and he carried it over to his mentor. He wasn't disappointed, but wished he had been a bit less hasty. He thought he was still pretty lucky, considering this was one of his first times hunting before.

Leopardclaw watched intently as his apprentice stalked towards his quarry, making sure that his crouch and pounce were in the right position.  Unfortunately, Blazingpaw lost the fat vole - to Leopardclaw's disappointment - but managed to catch a....lizard?  Hmm..ThunderClan cats don't usually have a taste for lizards.  They're fast creatures though, so it's definitely an interesting catch.  A swell of pride coursing through him, Leopardclaw stood up and strode forward a few paces.  "Great job, I've never seen a ThunderClan cat catch a lizard before."  A mischievous spark in his eye, the large golden tom stopped and crouched down, waving his tail in mock aggression.  "Now, the predator must learn to become the prey."  Without warning, Leopardclaw flung himself at the apprentice with claws sheathed, wanting to see how he would react to the surprise mock attack.


(Okay, now for the battle system.  I would recommend reading through the post for this in detail in the Rules section of the site, cause it lists all the different moves and stats for fights.  Basically, your cat has a set number of health points and stamina points.  Health obviously stands for how many hits you can take, you use stamina whenever you perform an attack.  When one cat's HP hits 0, that cat is knocked out and defeated.  If you run out of SP, you have to retreat.  For example, say Leopardclaw attacked Blazingpaw with Front Paw Strike.  Blazingpaw's stats are 20HP and 80SP; Leopardclaw's are 40HP 120SP.  From the attack, Blazingpaw would lose 8 HP, and Leopard would use 10SP.   So, I would add something like this to the end of my attack post.

Leopardclaw used Front Paw Strike on Blazingpaw, dealing 8 damage and using 10 stamina.

That's just an example, but you get the gist :)  That's the basics of the system, the site's official post though goes into more detail on special moves and status effects.  I would recommend reading it in full.  In the next post, Blazingpaw can attack first ;D)
