A Starry Night, A Mother and New Life (Open Birth Topic)

The silver tabby lay in the nursery, the stars shining above, as the sun finally completely disappeared from the horizon. She could glimpse them though the entrance and they comforted her, as she waited patiently for her kits to come. She knew they'd be born any day now, her belly more swollen than ever. Would she be a good mother? Could she protect her children, and would they get along with the other kits? So many questions had been swirling around Heatherstripe's head as of late. As she finally tried to fall asleep, suddenly a searing pain shot through her, and she knew exactly what it was.

"Bearheart! The kits are coming!" she yowled with a rush of fear and excitement. Her mate, the strong, solid brown tom named Bearheart, rushed over and licked her ears, trying to comfort the she-cat. She smiled at his appearance, but her teeth were still gritted with pain. He grinned. "Heatherstripe, we're gonna be parents, to beautiful little kits...."
The she-cat beamed with a soft pride at her mate, before wincing in pain again. "Can...can you get me a stick to chew, please?"
Bearheart dutifully ran out and fetched her one, quickly, anxious to miss even a second of the kitting. "Here." He passed the stick to Heatherstripe, who gave a grateful nod before biting down on it as hard as possible, pushing with all her might. "Should I get the medicine cat?" he asked, concerned.
She shook her head stubbornly. "No, I'm fine. The first kit's almost out!" Sure encounter, after not much time, the first kit was born. Heatherstripe nipped the sac and set the tiny brown tabby by her side to suckle. She beamed at her mate, and her firstborn, happy tears almost springing to her eyes. And there were more coming.

(For reference, they are being born in the order they signed up. The kit born in this post was Dimmeh's Olivekit, and in my next post, the kit born will be Elizzabear's Sleekkit, and so on. If you take more than a few days to respond, your kit will be skipped, for the sake of others and timeliness.)

Olivekit embraced his mother's warmth. The kit was small, yet since he wasn't the runt, it wasn't a surprise that he would still be the biggest. His eyes hadn't yet opened, and his bengal-tabby coat glittered with the faintness of silver light. He nuzzled and kneaded his mother's still swollen belly.

(Heyo Kem, since you're here, wanna have Robin born next? I'm not sure if Elizaa will show up, so if Robinkit's born now it'll be more efficient)

Heatherstripe only had a moment to look as she felt another ripple of pair sear through her. "Another one," she whimpered, biting down and pushing, before another kit came out into the world. This one was calico, and the silver tabby was reminded of her sister. Smiling, she nipped the sac again, and let the kit curl up to the first.

Robinkit squirmed helplessly but found peace when she felt her mother's warm pelt. She opened her mouth in a silent meow, her tiny mouth tasting the air for the first time. She shivered then started to suckel while etempting to push her brother away.

Olivekit pathetically and weakly tried to bat the she-kit, his sister, away with one small paw. He kicked her limply, but it seemed to do no major damage. He curled up in the warmth of Heatherstripe's fur.

While still suckling she still tried to kick her brother but it was pathetic but what was even more pathetic is that she had quite a bit of room and was mostly doing it to bother him. She was not enjoying the company of her brother but she was going to have to deal with it and she still had her other siblings to join her, Robinkit was not going to enjoy life in the nursery.

Heatherstripe groaned in pain, one more time as she pushed and bit down on the stick. The fact that had given birth still stunned her, and it wasn't over yet, as the third kit was born. A tom and a chocolate brown tabby, he looked like a mix of his parents.

Duskkit squirmed as he was born whilst suckling on Heatherstripe, he barely had enough space since his sister was kicking his other sibling. He just had to put up with it.

Heatherstripe gritted her teeth. One last kit was coming, and she knew it would be worth it as she pushed, and her fourtth and final kit of the litter was born. She had a kind of sleek beauty to her, and her mother set her down beside her three siblings. The silver tabby smiled at the four kits, her four kits. She looked to Bearheart. "Names?"
"He looks like an Olivekit," the tom replied with a quiet proudness in his voice, his tail gesturing to the firstborn. "And she looks like your sister, doesn't she?" he laughed, talking about the calico kit. "But she reminds me of the robins we see around here sometimes, you know? I think we should call her Robinkit."
"Both of those are perfect," Heatherstripe replied, licking her kits between the ears lovingly. "And for him," she said, looking towards the chocolate brown, tabby kit, "Duskit. He's like the setting sun at that time of day, and he's beautiful. And for the last one...look at her sleek fur! Sometimes I wish mine was like that," she chuckled. "I like Sleekkit."
Bearheart nodded, beaming at his newly named children as Heatherstripe did.
"Our kits, Bearheart. Our kits..."

Sleekkit mewed loudly and wandered blindly around looking for warmth.
