Hawks! (Closed Event)

Ashwing was flung to the side as the hawk grabbed Pinedusk and flew off. She tried to get up, catching her breath. Then, with a thud, her Clanmate fell to the ground, taking the blow for her apprentice and landing hard. "Oh no," she breathed. "No! Pinedusk, no, this wasn't supposed to happen! " She was dimly aware of Saltpelt and Foxpaw panicking beside her, but she dropped down to the ground, exhausted, defeated. Tears ran down her face. I failed... I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry Pinedusk.

It's too late.

He couldn't make sense of much anything except for a blur of feathers and Pinedusk jumping in front of him to take the blow. Maizepaw was frozen in fear for a brief moment as his yellow eyes locked onto the body of Pinedusk while it collapsed to the ground. "H...he saved me," Maizepaw choked out as the rest of the cats swarmed around the dead body. Tears threatened to spill, and it was too much work to hold them back, so Maizepaw let them shower down his face. "Why did he die for me?" It felt as if someone had dropped a huge boulder onto his chest and crushed his heart. The stress and sorrow mixed with pain from his injuries overwhelmed him and he collapsed onto the ground. He knew that somewhere in the battle, his front left leg had been broken, but it didn't matter to him now. All that mattered was the fact that someone willingly chose to die just so that Maizepaw could live. He just couldn't comprehend why someone would want to do that for him. "He has to be alive, someone get a medicine cat!"

'Well, thanks.' Kestrelstorm thought to himself as everyone rushed away from him and the hawk, who he was still desperately trying to kill. With his mind distracted, the hawk managed to throw him off. Before he could even move, the hawk was on top of him, scrabbling at him with it's talons. A scorching pain sliced through him as the razor sharp claw sliced open his shoulder. He rolled from side to side, managing to dodge the blows from the hawk, who was stuck on the ground with its broken wing. With a furious screech of pain and exhaustion, Kestrelstorm wrapped his paws around the massive bird and forced him closer so his neck was in Kestrelstorm's powerful jaws. The young warrior locked down with all his might, feeling the blood of the hawk spray into his mouth. He thrashed his head, desperately trying to break the neck, jugular, artery, or anything. He was losing strength, but so was the bird. With a final wave of adrenalin, Kestrelstorm yanked his head to the right. Meat ripped away from the neck with blood spraying Kestrelstorm's face. The struggling of the hawk soon became still, and Kestrelstorm layed their covered in his and the hawk's blood. He was so bloodied the colors of his fur were gone, and he was just all red. With a heave, Kestrelstorm pushed the bird off of him and to the side. He had killed the hawk, but a look over his shoulder told him a hawk had killed a cat. He limped over, staying back a few tail lengths to give the cats that could help room. Blood drilped down from his wound, but he didn't feel it.

Finchpaw ran over to Kesterelstorm, she looked at the hawk "Kesterelstorm what did that thing do to you?" she mewed. He helped her before and this time it was her time to return the favor, she checked around looking for the medicine cat.

OOC- There's still one hawk left, guys, Rowancloud will need help! Also, I think we should have waited OwO

IC- Palepaw blinked away his tears. "There's no time to mourn now! There's still one left!" He exclaimed, getting up and racing after Rowancloud and the hawk he was fighting. He jumped onto one of the wings, biting down hard and scratching.

Ooc: Kestrelstorm's out for the count though.

Kestrelstorm groaned, unable to answer Finchpaw. In agony, he fell back onto the hawk and layed down. "Just let me rest." he murmured, resting his head on the broken wing. He knew that there was one more, but he just couldn't fight. He was sticky, tired, and exhausted. The young warrior had killed a hawk nearly by himself, for StarClan's sake!

Finchpaw nodded, she raised a paw and slowly walked backwards "Very well" she looked at Palepaw and rushed over. She leaped up and clawed its back getting a good hold "I can help!" she wouldn't ever let a clan mate die.

Mothpaw heard the others still struggling and it appeared that Kestrelstorm was dazed or not 100% with everything. Everyone else was... over by Pinedusk and Saltpelt. Everyone except Finchpaw. The larger apprentice darted towards his den mate and Palepaw. Seriously, were all the younger apprentices living with a death wish? He knew they were only trying to help Rowancloud - wait where was Rowancloud? "Mousedung!" the brown tabby hissed and made his wayslowly to where the final hawk remained.

Saltpelt could barely pay attention to anything else, her brother was dead. Her littermate who she'd grown up with, played with, became an apprentice, then a warrior with. He'd always been a protector, fighting and grouching to keep everyone safe. And he'd died protecting Maizepaw, poetic and true to his character, but the despair was crushing her alive. It was only at Palepaw's reminder that one hawk remained, the injured she-cat got back up onto her paws.

That hawk was hers.

The white tabby raced over to the hawk, not minding her burn pawpads or the way the wind stung her face. She leapt at the bird, grappling onto it's back. She bit at it's neck, tearing savage gouges into it's flesh.

ic: Sablestar panted in exhaustion as she helped bring down a hawk with the rest of her Clan. She glanced over to the side where a messy heap of fur was. From the sounds of mournful yowls of cats, she knew that it was Pinedusk. Her eyes were glazed over with sorrow. But they didn't have much time to mourn. Where was the last hawk?

Rowancloud continued to batter at the final hawk, clamping his powerful jaws down onto a few feathers and tugging violently. It struggled aggressively at the apprentices' attacks, wings flapping rapidly. If Rowancloud could land one perfect bite, it would end the hawk for good. He backed away, face bleeding from deep scratches, and glared at the hawk. The fluffy tom crouched down, claws unsheathed. It was time to end this. He kicked off with his powerful hind legs, attempting to tackle the hawk. He crashed down onto one of the hawk's wings. Rowancloud felt his mouth fill with feathers and... blood. A sharp pain seared through his neck. The hawk, in its struggle, had managed to rip at the sensitive part of his neck with its long talons.

The WindClan cat staggered for a few moments, gasping with disbelief. He could hear the shrill cries of the hawk behind him being killed off by his late Clanmates. He collapsed, shuddering and choking on his own blood. After a few spasms, the tom lie still, blood pouring from his face and neck faster than a wildfire.

Foxpaw saw the anger and sadness in Saltpelts eyes, "He was a great warrior, everyone in Windclan will thanks him and miss him dearly." He said with sadness in his voice, his ears perked when he remembered he had left Kestrelstorm. "Kestrelstorm? Oh no, are you okay, I'm so sorry for leaving you!" Foxpaw said looking at the exhausted and bloodied warrior.

OOC: That should be all the hawks?

Saltpelt had been trying to finish the hawk off, attack more blindly with rage than with proper finesse. But the sight of her clanmate, Rowancloud falling limp at the creature's feet like her brother was the last straw that she could take. Her blue eyes went dull as she caterwauled in unadulterated grief and madness, her claws digging in firmly into the creature's flesh as she tore it down. Blood splattered everywhere, her fur was more red than white. But with one final tearing gouge at the Hawk's neck, the bird collapsed onto it's side.

Saltpelt stood over it's body, panting wildly. She turned to Rowancloud, wobbling over to him. With the last of her strength, she nudged at his muzzle with her nose, as if pleading that the tom would show any signs of living. He didn't move.

The she-cat collapsed there, unconscious now. A brief reprieved from the agony of reality.

Harepaw shook his head to clear his mind as he left the corpse of his mentor, his first patrol wouldn't be one he wanted to brag about at the next gathering or to any cat. He didn't want to think of it again; with that thought in mind, the apprentice launched onto the other wing to help his brother keep the bird grounded as Saltpelt landed the killing blow. He gasped as the hawk landed on it's side. On him. He spat out the feathers and coughed at the contact with the ground.

Palepaw fell down with the hawk, landing safely though, finding thatRowancloud had died too. Frantically, he jumped over to him, nudging him to wake up. "This... They weren't supposed... This wasn't supposed to happen..." He said, teary eyed, as he sat there, blood soaking his brown and white fur. He let out a mournful yowl for the two, after making sure Saltpelt was okay as she collapsed unconscious.
