Hawks and Grouses [closed]

Hawkpaw padded along one of the many trails that ran through Riverclan territory. He was going hunting. Since the river started freezing over a few moons ago hunting had been slim. Now that snow covered the ground anywhere you went, you couldn't find much land prey either. But instead of sticking his paws in the ice cold river, Hawkpaw had decided to go hunting among the trees today.

Before long the dark brown apprentice had made it to a small but sheltered clearing. There must be prey here, He'd thought. He opened mouth, checking to see if he could manage to find any scents. Sure enough, he'd picked up the scent of a squirrel. He tracked the scent until he'd found the small rodent fixing itself on an acorn. Sliding into a crouch, he crept up on the squirrel. He was about a fox-length away when he heard a small crack. He'd stepped on a twig, and the squirrel had heard it. Hawkpaw instantly tried chasing the squirrel up the tree it had started to climb, but with a moment it was gone.

Frustrated, Hawkpaw decided to go to the gorge to hunt. Maybe some prey could've wandered over from Windclan territory, and Hawkpaw could also check the border as well.  It wasn't long until he made it there. He peered into the gorge and saw rocks jutting out from the rushing water. It surprised him that the river in the gorge wasn't frozen. Focusing on getting food for his clan, Hawkpaw sniffed the air for any scents. He picked up a few scents; Riverclan, Windclan, stale mouse, and rabbit. Rabbit! It wasn't often you find one of those on Riverclan territory! He quickly followed the scent trail. When he got to the rabbit, he saw that it was nibbling berries off of a nearby bush.

'heres my chance' He thought, crouching and getting ready to pounce. Once he felt ready, he leaped, sailing into the air, but not for long enough. He landed right beside the rabbit, scaring it off. "Whats wrong with me today?" He muttered, giving chase to the rabbit. It was a few moments until Hawkpaw realized that the rabbit was heading to the gorge. It was too late to stop, so he jumped across the gorge, landing awkwardly on his shoulder on the other side. By the time he'd come to his thoughts, the rabbit had already fled. What was worse, was that he'd realized he was in Windclan territory."Mousedung! This day just keeps getting worse!" He growled under his breath.

He looked around, then back toward the gorge. Getting up he started to make his way to the edge. He swung his head wround, peering behind him. Hawkpaw could almost swear that someone was watching him.

The white rabbit's pawprints were pressed lightly into the snow. Wind from the trees of the forest nearby blew more snow into the tracks, covering them in a blanket of smooth snow. It was a clever tactic for prey. One that Grousepaw could have admired if only he had the time to. The tall lanky apprentice padded only a few tail lengths away from the gorge. His blue eyes looked carefully for any odd lumps or sign of movement. His dissappointment only continued to grow.

It was a waste of time. Too close to the border... no prey would come here. His lip curled as he recalled stories of when the gorge used to be windclan territory before the wretched fish hearts ripped it away from them. His ears flattened as he stared at the ground where the border lay, then pricked as he heard a noise. Within a heartbeat, he darted into a bush on his side of the border. His keen eyes picking up a brown tabby pelt. His eyes narrowed as the tom's paws got too close to it.

There was no time wasted on a warning as he darted out of the bushes with a fierce battle cry.

"Stay OUT!" He snarled, claws raking down the pelt of the other tom briefly. Their scuffle disturbing the snow of the border. Mingling scents that were already scattered, the stench of the enemy tom's fish breath assaulting his senses.

Grousepaw used Run-and-Tackle. Gains +3 damage from distraction.

Hawkpaw screeched as he felt razor-sharp claws rake down his back. He turned around to find a grey and white tabby apprentice staring at him. Hawkpaw wasn't going to retreat now. Giving this cat a win wouldn't do good. Hawkpaw leaped into the air, landing squarely on Grousepaw's back. He pinned Grousepaw down, and started violently scratching at him whenever he got the chance.

Hawkpaw used leap and hold on Grousepaw, dealing 6 damage each turn in effect, and costing 10 stamina

Grousepaw tumbled in the snow as Hawkpaw leapt into the air. His teeth bared as he made his own lunge, but was unbalanced as his paw slipped out from beneath him. A hiss escaped his jaws as he found himself pinned and tried to shake him off with a tremendous yowl.
"Fish-brain! You'll be lucky if I don't catch you." He snarled. His claws scratching uselessly at the surface of snow as he tried to wriggle himself free.


Grousepaw is pinned for 1 more turn.

Despite the struggles and attempts to escape his grasp from the tom underneath him, Hawkpaw held his ground. He was almost thrown off once from the thrashing cat, but Hawkpaw dragged his claws down Grousepaw's back, feeling warm blood well over his paw. He flinched for a moment, he didn't really like the feeling of blood, but knew that if he wanted to win this is what he had to do. He regained himself, feeling lucky that the apprentice didn't escape in the split second he lost focus. "We'll see about that" He hissed to Grousepaw, digging his claws into the other apprentices back even harder.

The grey and white tom's struggles renewed at the words. He managed to get his hind paws underneath him, but the snow made it too slippery to push up and completely dislodge the other cat. As claws pierced his pelt, he remembered a story from the other cats. One that said this land had once been WindClan's... that RiverClan had no true claim here. His snarls came stronger, his strength renewed to take back a land that belonged to HIS clan.

Grousepaw is free next turn.

Hawkpaw grunted as Grousepaw finally managed to heave Hawkpaw off of him. He knew that he would be flung off of him at some point, but Hawkpaw just wanted to hang on a bit longer. Shaking his head, he stood to face the Windclanner, a fighting fire igniting in his blue eyes. Hawkpaw clumsily dove underneath of Grousepaw and started raking his claws down his belly.

There was a brief moment where Grousepaw felt the weight of the RiverClan cat recede. Within a moment, he whirled as claws raked at his belly. A mighty leap freeing him from the clutches of the river dwelling cat as he regained his footing and bounded a couple paces away into the snow. Now it was his turn. He snarled with bared teeth as he lunged for the RiverClan apprentice. His claws dug deep into the other tom's shoulder as he tried to pin him.
"Your wretched Clan doesn't deserve the gorge!" He declared as he dug his claws into the top of Hawkpaw's shoulder.
