Dapplepaw's Training

Dapple paw nodded. He leaped into a branch. He pointed his tail out, just like his mentor. He silently crept up on the squirrel. He checked the ground to make sure there were no twigs or anything that he could step on to alert the squirrel. There were none. He crawled over to the squirrel, keeping downwind. He then leaped onto it, killing it in a bite to the neck. He dropped it at his mentors paws.

"Good, but do again. And be careful next time when jumping on a branch, if it had leaves, I would've heard it. Don't jump on a branch with your prey on it unless it's under you so you won't give yourself away. Try to find prey yourself by using your senses and I'll follow you." EagleWing waited for his apprentice to answer.

He nodded. He sniffed the air. He walked around. He smelled a thrush, and a mouse. Thrushes are more filling, he thought. He looked for the bird, and saw it on a high branch. Too high, he thought, scenting for the mouse. He found it on a pile of moss. He silently crept by the mouse, about to strike. The mouse turned around as it heard another squeak from the opposite direction. Showing no hesitation, Dapplepaw bit into the mouses neck. It went limp. "How was that?" He asked through a mouthful of fur.

"Good, well done," EagleWing responded calmly. He was wise for not going up that tree with no experience. "Do you want to hunt more or practice battle moves?"

Dapplepaw thought. "Actually, would it be okay to learn how to climb trees so I know how to get up high, to like, catch the thrush that was there?" He asked.

"Okay, but let's practice climbing trees first before we actually hunt in the trees since it's dangerous to do. But at the end of the day, climbing trees could save your life," EagleWing responded warmly and purred. He was glad to have Dapplepaw as an apprentice, he's like a son to him.

Dapple paw nodded. "Okay, EagleWing." Dapple paw said happily.

"Watch this," EagleWing said quickly and jumped on the nearest tree. He used his claws and legs to get up to a branch. He quickly sat down and looked down at his apprentice. The white warrior nodded his head before jumped off the branch with his back facing the ground. At a safe height, he turned his body so that his legs face the ground and lands on them safely. "Make sure when you jump, you land on your hind legs first and then your front legs."

Dapple paw nodded. "So, hind legs first, front legs second. Okay." He said.

"Yes, but wait here." EagleWing jumped on the tree again and began climbing to the same branch again. "Before you do what I did before, do this until I say stop." He jumped down but instead of twisted himself again because his legs were already facing the floor, he landed on his hind legs first before front legs. "You need to know this just in case you fall on accident."

Dapple paw leaped onto the branch. He jumped off, twisting himself. He landed hind paws first, then front paws.

"Ah, so I guess you know how to do what I did first, impressive." EagleWing commented coolly and nodded his head. "Good start." He didn't get mad because his apprentice didn't follow directions because he already knew how to jump like that.

Dapple paw nodded. "Thanks," he said.

Something came in EagleWing's mind. He sat down and looked at Dapplepaw. "Do you know the warrior code?"

Dapplepaw nodded. "Well, some of it."
