Training in its Finest (Training topic for Cloverpools: Midnightpaw)

Marshpad, just made a warrior a moon ago, earned an apprentice named Midnightpaw. He'd seen the she-cat as a kit but hadn't said hello, as he was far too shy. But now he had to train her or she wouldn't become a warrior. This was a large load put upon the warriors back, which had an already bruised, battered and mildly fractured- and to be mentioned, still healing- spine. However, the tom crept over to the apprentices den where he had been not so long ago. The familiar scent of Petalpaw filled the air and he smiled, but today he wasn't looking for her, he was looking for Midnightpaw. "Midnightpaw? It's time for your first day of training." He said quietly into the den. "Wake up!"

The tom was willing to let her have a small meal before leaving to examine her hunting skills. A content, full belly was just enough to start off a nice, warm, sunshiny day of training. The brown tom had saved a finch for them to eat, and it was waiting next to the pile.

Midnightpaw opened her eyes at the voice of her mentor. She got up and stretched then padded out and went over to her mentor. She smiled, the silver dot under each light stormy gray eye shining in the sun light.

"Good morning, Midnightpaw! Have some prey before we head out- it'll boost your energy." The tom purred, walking her to the prey pile where the finch was, and pulled the finch from the spot he'd tucked it in. He put it next to him, cujt it in half best he could, and gave one half to her.

Midnightpaw nodded and thanked him before neatly tucking into the finch. It was small but that didn't matter. When she was done she  groomed her pelt free of prey and moss. "What are we going to do today Marshpad?" She meowed looking to her mentor.

"That's a good question. You decide- would you rather learn to fight, hunt, review the code or examine and tour the territory?" He said, voice brightening. He quickly cleaned himself of finch, before looking at the sky. Weather's pretty good today- perhaps it will rain later. There's clouds. Hopefully not another rock slide... He thought, and cringed at his back that ached the tiniest bit.

"Hmm I want to learn to hunt!" Midnightpaw meowed getting up and stretching once again.

"Okay! Oh, look at that! You're already on a roll." He purred. "Stretching is the first thing we do before hunting, so our bones and muscles don't ache and sprain when we're running around." Marshpad said with a smile. He stretched as well, and headed out of cat, his bob tail dancing from here to there as he went.
