An Assessment for Spottedpaw(Roseya)

Dewclaw prodded Spottedpaw awake. Today was a special day. "Spottedpaw." She whispered. "Today is your assessment. Let's go." With that she left the den and waited outside.

Spottedpaw woke to Dewclaw prodding her. She heard his say today was her assessment. But she was so tired. Stumbling onto her paws and out the den and yawn and stretched, stretching her muscles. She would have to get over her love to sleep, today was special. She had to make sure she was sharp.

The gray deputy watched as the apprentice clumsily exited the den. She didn't say anything, just led her to a clearing outside camp. "Like I said, an assessment. Your job is to catch as much prey as you can before sunhigh. I'll be watching, but you won't see me. Now go on."

"Ok" Spottedpaw shook her head to clear her thoughts and loped out of camp, out in the forest. Slowing down, she lightened her steps and smelled the air, following the scent of prey. She stopped at the edge of a bush to look at the mouse searching for food. She dropped down in a crouch and check the wind, making sure it wouldn't smell her. She snuck behind it and bunched her muscles. She leaped to land on her prey.

Picking her mouse up, Spottedpaw burried it under a tree. She looked up and decided to head to a different part of the forest. Crawling closer the the Riverclan border, smelling the air she went to find a vole had strayed and was heading toward patches of sun. Creeping closer, Spottedpaw shot out after the vole.

Whoops, she should have been more careful. She was surprised to see a squirrel shoot past her. Quickly, she leaped after it, reaching out to dig her claws in its fur.

Spottedpaw dragged the squirrel back to where she put her mouse and dug a hole next to it. She buried it and smelled the air again. Deciding to hunt somewhere else, Spottedpaw walked away, smelling the air as she went. Stopping by a tree, she looked up to a thrush at the edge of a low branch looking down for food, not noticing her yet. Spottedpaw crept quietly behind it and leaped up to the branch, reaching her paws as far as they could go to catch the bird.

Her paw accidently hit the branch and startled the thrush into flight, missing her chance. "Mouse dung!". Shaking her paw, she went to go look for something easier. She climbed a tree, sinking her claws in the rough bark. Looking down, she decided to surprised something from above. She smirked. It would never know she was there. Spottedpaw lightly slipped from one tree to another, only making leaves rustle. She looked down again and noticed two squirrels squaring each other off over a nut. They stared at one another, daring the other to make a move, not noticing her. They leaped at each other as she leaped down to land on them both, making a land to hit them both.

The squirrels parted as she landed on one, the other running away with the nut. She swiftly broke its neck and went to bury it.

"Ok, next one." she whispered, knowing Dewclaw was somewhere watching her. Spottedpaw continued to smell the air as she moved through the forest. She felt the heat rise as it got closer to sunhigh. She would have to work harder to get more prey, as they started to hide from the heat. In, her thoughts, Spottedpaw hadn't noticed the smell of thrush. The bird squaked and caught her attention. As it lifted its wings, she shot forward. It started to rise into the air as she jumped went to sink her claws into it.
