The Jay and the Spots(Assessment topic for Spottedpaw)

Jaysong felt proud of herself one apprentice had already finishished his assessment and and now it was her last appre rice turn. She knew it was well overdue. Passing to the apprentice den she poked her head in."Spottedpaw time for your assessment"she mewed.

Spottedpaw

The white she-cat was already awake. She had been waiting for this day for so many moons. Bear had scarred her in so many ways and she wanted to be rid of his clinging power over her. She could hear his voice feel his presence in so many ways. She hated it nd she wanted nothing more than to rise and become a worthy warrior of Thunderclan. She pricked her ears at the sound of her mentors voice and rose to her paws. Her white fur gleamed in the sunlight, the fur now covering the two long scars from each shoulderblade down her sides. She could still feel a stiffness in her left shoudler when she slept the wrong way, and if she stretched to far climbing a tree. But it was improving. The Medicine cat had done an amazing job saving her life and she vowed to help her in anyway she could. She slipped out of the den and nodded to Jaysong her eyes burning with excitement. "What do I need to do first?" She asked her voice steady but edged with eagerness.

Jaysong smiled looking at her apprentice. She was proud of how far she had gotten"alright so your task is to catch at least four prices of prey at least two mice and one bird and a vole of it can be found"She mewed"after that you will meet me back here at the camp entrance"Jaysong mewed leading her apprentice into the territory as she spoke before letting her go off.

She lifted her eyes and looked at her mentor as they padded out of the camp. She nodded and paused dipping her head to Jaysong. She turned and trotted off into the territory coming to a halt in a clearing. She lifted her head and parted her jaws. She caught the earthy smell of mouse and smiled lightly dropping to a hunters crouch and pinpointing the mouse under an over hanging fern. She drew her paws forward barely lifting them from the ground as she  stalked forward. Her ears pricked and she came to a halt her eyes focused on the trailing edge of the fern leaf. It twitched and wiggled then in a flash a nose poked out. Her Eyes narrowed and her body tensed. She leaped pressing her paws into the ground and then extending her claws as they left the ground and stretched out in front of her.

'Hunting Dice' : 3

Her blue eyes never faltered, the ever wavered from her quary. She landed on the mouse dropping her head and delivering a killing bite to the back of the mouses neck. She took a breath calming her nerves and lifted her catch turning toward the large oak tree across the clearing. She placed the mouse under it and scratched some dirt over it before drawing the scents in around her over her tongue again. Her eyes narrowed and she focused on the earthy scent of another mouse. She dropped to a hunting crouch and pricked her ears forward sliding her paws across the ground as she made her way toward he scent of mouse. This would have to be her last prey in this clearing. They wouldn't stick around with the scent of blood hanging in the air. Again she waited patiently for the little nose to peak out from under the low hanging leaves of the bush at the edge of the clearing. Suddenly it was there and she again lifted herself into the air soaring through it and letting her tail stream out behind her.

'Hunting Dice' : 2

She landed again quickly delivering a killing bite and depositing her catch with the first. She paused and tooke a breath calming herself once again and flicking her tail. She dropped her head an spoke softly. "Thank you starclan for this prey. May it nourish my clan and keep them strong." She said and lifted her head her eyes blazing. She Padded off toward the stream that ran through the territory. Voles were easiest to find near water. She paused at the edge and dropped her head lapping at the water. Small droplets splashed up and clung to her whiskers. She shook her head and cleared them away. Parting her jaws she drew scent in over her tongue. She tasted squirrel, pigeon, and THERE VOle! Her heart beat quickened and she dropped into a hunting crouch again checking the wind. She was upwind of the vole. Mousedung! She thought and began to move in a slow deliberate semicircle around her prey. As she neared it her eyes narrowed and she focused on the hole near the bank. She could smell the vole inside it's warm scent tinged with the cool tang of water hung about the hole like a cloud. She held her ground, doingher best to remain still and hidden in the grass. Her white fur was difficult to disguise but luckily voles did not see very well. She saw it's nose and gave it another few heart beats. a head and then two paws. She waited another few moments and there was the other end. She leaped one paw aiming to cover the hole and the other aiming to catch the vole.

She landed her paw slipping under her weight and she scrambled to regain her balance. Luckily her fall covered the voles escape and he rose looking at her in shock and terror. She swiped out with her still extended paw and grabbed the vole who squeaked. She delivered and cluimsy killing bite and looked down at her prey disgusted. She hung her head and spoke softly, "Vole please forgive my clumsiness, Thank you for your life and may you nourish my clan." She shook her head and lifted the vole in her jaws gently. She returned it with the mice and scratched dirt over them. She sat down wrapping her tail around her paws and sighing. She sighed and closed her eyes. She lifted her head and parted her jaws once more. Searching for the pigeon she'd scented earlier. Discovering that it not only hadn't fled but was sitting on the ground in front of a bush, down wind from her no less, she dropped into a hunting crouch and padded forward. Her eyes focused on the gray feathers of the bird before her. She waited for it to drop it's head to search for food and she took two running steps toward the bird her legs pumping under her and leaped into the air.

'Hunting Dice' : 7

The bird had heard her paw steps and lifted into the air. Her claws brushed it's tail feathers but not enough to grab. She landed on the ground and let out an exasperated huff. "Mousedung!" She growled to herself and padded back to the clearing flicking her ears forward trying to catch the sound of another bird. She sat her tail wrapped around her paws, ears pricked and mouth open. Finally, after what seemed like seasons, she spotted a small blackbird hopping around at the base of a maple tree about 3 fox lengths away. She dropped into her hunting crouch and slid forward, keeping her body low to the ground and hidden in the grass. As she neared the bird she took a deep breath and centered herself. Focusing on the  bird in front of her. She pressed her belly to the ground and leaped.

She sailed throuhg the air and as the bird lifted into the air she grabbed it with her paws forcing it to the ground. She quickly delivered a killing bite and smiled. That was it. She'd done it. She'd completed her task. She padded over to where she had left the rest of her prey. She picked it all up awkwardly and trotted back to where Jaysong waited. She placed the prey at her mentors feet and looked at her pride swelling in her chest.

Jaysong had watched quietly from Bush to bush as her apprentice had caught all the required prey to pass. She smiled and sat at the entrance waiting for her. As Spottedpaw came over she purred smiling some"good job"she purred"you have passed your assessment you can go set your prey on the pile and then sat and relax I'll talk to Darkstar"she mewed.
