Subject: Hunting and Conversation [Lighttail] Mon 11 Nov 2024 - 13:26
The air was cool despite the sun that dappled the forest floor, but Wolfstar found her paws were lighter than they had been as she cheerfully padded alongside Lighttail. "Stars, I don't miss greenleaf." She mewed, "It's nice to be able to make use of the day again, even if they're growing shorter." Shorter, and with that the beginnings of prey becoming scarce as the season progressed ever-toward the oncoming leafbare. For now though, they had time to prepare, to hunt. Given her previous experiences with leafbare, the leader should be downright wary of the inevitable misfortune that always seemed to befall the clans... But she was trying to stay positive.

Lighttail nodded in agreement. “The heat here isn’t quite as bad in my opinion as it is over in the marsh. I mean, there it gets muggy. Still, this is way better weather. And we don’t have nearly as much flood risk here either.”

"I remember when Shadowclan was washed up here... I can't imagine being swept from your territory like that." It was a terrifying thought, to know that the forces of nature could be so powerful. She'd witnessed the damage, of course, but only from the safety of Skyclan's own territory.
"The great shake made our territory fairly uninhabitable for a while with all the trees that came down... I'll be happy if I never have to live in fourtrees again. That first gathering held while we were still there was an awkward one, for sure."

“I can only imagine,” Lighttail responded with a wry chuckle. The scent of prey caught her attention and she peeled off into the undergrowth after a mouse.
She returned after just a brief moment, her catch in her jaws.
Lighttail caught a mouse. Nerd has a brain injury so post quality will dip.

"Stoneheart and Mistflower were practically raised in fourtrees instead of our own camp for most of their kithood and apprenticeship. I can't say I blame Stoneheart for going off on a rant when gatherings are brought up." Wolfstar chuckled, then fell silent as Lighttail signaled that she'd found prey. A mouse wasn't the most common item on the fresh kill pile, but prey was prey. And that the warrior had still retained her skills to hunt the tiny ground-dwelling creatures spoke highly of her dedication. Wolfstar turned, her own gaze lifting to the tree branches above. There was a blackbird that had settled on a branch, and the leader carefully moved through the trees toward it.
Catch in her jaws, she dropped back to the forest floor, offering Lighttail a grin.
