| In the ShadowClan marsh, the lonely moon shone down on a silver she-cat as she padded along. Eyes downcast and paws ambling aimlessly, Lighttail tried to outpace her grief. Her cousins and her best friend had all died recently, torn away by cruel claws and teeth. Lighttail was now a mere husk of her former self, and she finally sat down and allowed the feelings to wash over her as she plucked some flowers from the earth. In a way unknowingly reminiscent of her mother, she began to translate her emotions into music.
”I guess I have to face
That in this awful place
I shouldn't show a trace of doubt”
With as many flowers as she could carry, she began making a circuit of graves, beginning with Batswarm and Moondancer.
”But pulled against the grain
I feel a little pain
That I would rather do without”
Her paws carried her onwards to the secret burial place of her kits.
”I'd rather be
Free, free, free”
Finally, she collapsed at Honeylight’s final nest and poured her heart out, tears flowing as she wished she could hear his voice one last time.
