Life continues (c)

The day before had been long for Molehill with all of the chatting with his clanmates and sharing tongues, but surprisingly enough he’s gotten a decent amount of sleep that night.

Feeling well rested and stretching his wide paws out in front of him as he exited the leader’s den, the brown tom let out a yawn as he padded across camp. The morning air was brisk and he thanked the stars above that his fur while not long, was thick and fairly warm in its own right. Not many cats had awoken yet and the sun had hardly risen, but the newly named Deputy felt that it was only right to start the day off with some patrols.

Reaching the camp entrance, Molehill gave his pelt a shake before sitting down. While he waited for cats to start to stir out of their nests, he decided to take this time to groom himself and began licking his paws in a gentle manner.

Ears perking at a familiar voice, Molehill lifted his gaze to see Thistledown standing in front of him. The younger tom held no smile as he spoke, which made the deputy wonder if he even meant what he said. Molehill didn’t personally mind though, seeing as though he had been through a lot lately. "Thank you," the stocky tom mewed simply with a dip of his head. Getting up from where he'd been sitting, the deputy gave the warrior a nod before leading them out of camp and into the moorland for their patrol.

The two of them padded along quietly for a bit, before Molehill's conscience got the better of him. The cat next to him had just lost his father and had every reason to feel dejected. He didn't know Thistledown too well personally, but it was clear that this loss was taking a toll on the tom. He would've felt the same way if Fuzzface had passed, so it was only fair to share such condolences, or so he assumed.

"I'm very sorry about your father," he started out, trying his best to collect his words. He wasn't the greatest when it came to conversation, but he had recently started learning how to share more of his thoughts instead of keeping them all inside. "And I'm... I'm not just saying that. A loss is... well, a loss. It hurts us all," the plump deputy added softly as they continued forward to no where in particular, though he assumed towards the borders to update the scents.

Short ears falling flat against his head and his tail drooping, Molehill knew he spoke too much as he listened to Thistledown's reluctant response and his fuzzy pelt began to grow hot with embarrassment. The warrior was right; who knew where Tigerstar was or if he was truly dead. He'd implied that they all just excepted that the former leader was gone and that wasn't the case at all.

Not saying anything more, Molehill stood in silence as Thistledown wandered off to catch some prey. He took this time to mull over his now overwhelming thoughts and to mark the territory before his patrol partner returned to his side, looking more than ready to be anywhere but around him.

"Sorry," the tom mewed simply with his amber eyes at his paws and not daring to meet Thistledown's cold gaze. For some reason or another, tears began to well up in his eyes and he prayed over and over to the stars above for them to help him not to burst out in tears. He didn't mean to be so emotional, but so much had been happening lately that perhaps being scolded in such a way was the new deputy's breaking point. Great StarClan some deputy he was, getting all teary-eyed in front of his clanmates.
