Leopardwind hadn't had the chance to congratulate Thistledown properly for his new name before leaving. For one reason or another, that thought was the one thought that rang through his head the most while he was gone. It was so simple, something he was sure his brother would forget or perhaps not even notice, given Thistledown's impression of him, but still, it nagged him like a persistent fly, never letting him spend a moment in peace before it came fluttering back, always nagging at the back of his head, chanting those few words like a taunt as his paws moved further and further away from home. From his brother.
And it was probably why, when his brother came to seek out his company-- because, believe it or not, Leopardwind had just been the littlest bit scared of approaching his brother-- the first words that tumbled out of his mouth was, "Congratulations on your name." It was so very late, and no doubt going to earn him a confused expression from his brother. How long had it been since Thistledown's warrior ceremony? Without Gatherings to mark his days, he had somewhat lost track of time. Had it been too long? How much about Thistledown had changed since they last spoke? "I- sorry, you were saying?" How rude of him, to interrupt his brother when Thistledown was speaking to him. He felt awkward, too big for his skin, too bare and too vulnerable. He had cried plenty of times since returning home, and yet he could still feel the tears prickling at the corners of his eyes. How pathetic.

Thistledown
I once was a man with dignity and grace
Having Leopardwind back felt like Thistledown was being given a second chance. To truly mend their relationship, and maybe actually be a brother for Leopardwind. Especially now, when he could see his brother suffering. And he genuinely wanted to be a cat he could rely on.
He was just about to start speaking, finally gathering the courage to say what needed to be said, when Leopardwind cut him off. His mouth hung open, unsure of what to say to that. He had been a warrior for no short amount of time.
But then, when he had been about to go see Leopardwind after that ceremony, Laurelriver had been there. They never did speak.
He let out a huff, a gentle smile on his face, although it felt like he was breaking inside even more. "I- Thank you."
Leopardwind prompted him to continue with what he had been saying, and he felt his own heart racing. "Yes, uh. This is something I've been needing to tell you. For a while, now. Ah, Laurelriver and I had been talking, and well, I just, I really need to get this off of my chest."
He took a deep breath, before finally, the words just tumbled out. "I don't hate you."
Now I'm slippin' through the cracks of your cold embrace
