I feel like I’m waiting for something that’ll never happen
Quillsplash led the patrol of 6 warriors deep into ShadowClan territory, his paws tingling with nerves as five other warrior followed behind him. Silverhawk, Lilyvalley, Swiftheart, three warriors he knew to be formidable fighters, and Nettleweaver would no doubt be strong as well. Of all of them there, Smokeytimber was the most inexperienced, but even then Quillsplash had no doubt that he had been chosen for this patrol for a reason.
They were hunting down two dogs that had been reported by the patrols this morning. One dog was a big enough problem, but two? No wonder Sablestrike had sent out such a large patrol. This would be no easy fight. And yet, he was looking forward to the conflict. It had been a while since he fought anything particularly strong.
For some strange reason, he was the leader of the patrol this time. It was strange, turning around to address the patrol, half of who were older than him. The dogs were just ahead; their scents was thick in the air, their snores loud and rumbling. They would be able to get the dogs by surprise, that was for sure. "Alright, let's split the patrol into two and each group can tackle one dog. Try your best to keep the two creatures away from each other; facing one mouth was much easier than facing two. Swiftheart, take Lilyvalley and Smokeytimber with you. Silverhawk, Nettleweaver, you two are with me. Wait for my signal to attack." How strange, to instruct any of them to do anything. He typically only ever gave instructions to his apprentices.
"Are you two ready?" He addressed Silverhawk and Nettleweaver, now that Swiftheart's group had moved off. Once he had received his confirmation, he signaled with a flick of his tail for the two groups to attack. This had better be a quick fight. The tortoiseshell hurled himself forward, his fangs digging into the closest dog's shoulder and earning a howl that would wake the other dog beside it.

The fur along Nettleweaver’s spine bristled as the patrol weaved their way through the territories. He wasn’t nervous, or even afraid at the idea of facing down against the mutts. No, the bristling of his pelt was in part due to his detestation of the two eldest members of the patrol. The other half was due to his own excitement at the prospect of the fight that awaited him. To him, dogs were the stuff of legends. He’s been raised by the stories of how ShadowClan had driven the hounds from their home valiantly, and now it was his turn to do the same. He wished his friends from that time were here too on this patrol, but they had been gone for moons— they weren’t coming back. Nettleweaver couldn’t live in the past anymore, besides things weren’t so bad now. He had Silverhawk and Quillsplash and he still had Hedgepaw too, even if he was still stuck with Lilyvalley and Swiftheart on patrol. The tom’s nose scrunched as he was affronted with the reminder of their existence and he quickened his pace, putting as much distance as he could between himself and the two mollies.
The patrol came to a slow as the rumbling snore of the dog’s became perceptible. The vibrations made the white tom quiver with anticipation, but he couldn’t be the one to blow it. Quillsplash was leading this patrol and it wouldn’t be his fault if anything went wrong, he wouldn’t let his friend down. He listened attentively as the tortoiseshell spoke, a smirk crossing his maw as he was paired with his friends and away from LilyValley and Swiftheart. “Good luck.” he murmured, careful to watch the volume of his voice around the dogs. It was general statement, but he only bothered to look at Smokeytimber as he spoke.
The other group was in position now. Nettleweaver’s heart thundered, but he knew they had this. “As Always.” he replied brightly, settling into a battle stance. The seconds that followed seemed to drag out as he waited for the signal. The older tom’s tail twitched, and with that the foliage came alive as the groups surged towards their targets in a flurry of teeth and claws. As Quillspalsh’s fangs sank into the dog’s flesh, the bob-tailed warrior rushed to slash at its flank, before it realised what was happening. He grinned, it wasn’t a competition, but if it was his group would totally beat the mousebrain group and Smokeytimber.
Nettleweaver used Claw on Dog #1 dealing -12 HP and costing -5 EP Dog #1 is not focused on Nettleweaver, Surprise Attack is in effect! Dealing a bonus -3 HP

The darker the weather...
Dogs… the thought of them made Silverhawk’s pelt bristle. By chance or serendipity, he was assigned to the patrol sent to deal with them. It had been a long time since he’d really gotten an excuse to flex his claws, feel blood under them. Since he’d encountered that last dog with Wolfpaw, likely. Now he had his chance again. More importantly than satisfying himself, these beasts couldn’t be allowed to roam ShadowClan’s territory unmanaged. Not when Silverhawk’s loved ones--especially little Hedge--walked the marsh freely. Should anything happen to them… the thought nearly made him shudder. So he would gut these dogs from nose to tail before they had the chance.
Silverhawk tilted his head to listen as the snoring grew loud and Quillsplash began to speak. Being instructed made his pelt burn, but Silverhawk tamped the feeling down. He exchanged a glance with Nettleweaver before smiling to himself. Within moments, Quillsplash was asking if they were ready to begin--and then the fight was opening.
Quillsplash and Nettleweaver were the first two to surge forward. The dogs awoke with yaps of pain and alarm. Before they could get their bearings, Silverhawk ran in as well. He circled around to the opposite side of the other two, using the dog’s half-asleep disorientation to his advantage. He struck out, claws wrenching through the beast’s flank and earning another pained howl. Silverhawk felt wicked with the heat of blood welling under the attention of his claws. These dogs were going to die tonight.
Silverhawk used Claw and Surprise Attack, dealing 16 (13+3) damage and costing 15 (5+10) EP.

I'll hum the song the soldiers sing...
Smokeytimber stood proudly alongside his Clanmates as Quillsplash directed the patrol. Every other cat was much more experienced than he was, but that only made him more sure of himself; clearly, he'd been determined worthy enough of fighting alongside them. Perhaps Sablestrike had finally seen his worth. Lately, he'd been doing too much nothing, but he hadn't been given anything any more important to do.
And StarClan knew he'd fought plenty of predators in his time. Even though he'd barely been named a warrior, he'd faced his fair share of owls and foxes, and he was sure a dog couldn't be much different. He prided himself on his fighting skills, and his mouth watered as he imagined clamping down on one of the dog's legs and driving it off, yelping and whining. They had plagued his Clan when he was nothing more than a mewling kit, and he was determined to make the entire species pay for its past crimes.
Smokeytimber went with Lilyvalley and Swiftheart gladly, his tail and head held high. He'd been looking forward to fighting alongside the other two toms and possibly getting to know them a little better, but the sake of strategy was far more important. He kept his footsteps quiet as the patrol stalked closer to the snoring beast. Nettleweaver's smirk was lost on him - he didn't do drama, and Lilyvalley and Swiftheart were surely just as strong as the toms - but he appreciated the well wishes all the same. "Same to you, sir." Nettleweaver might have been barely older than him, but he was a higher rank all the same, and thus deserved the same respect he'd give to a patrol leader or a higher rank. "Not that any of us will need it." Smokeytimber added, flexing his claws into the soft earth below.
As the groups split off, the burly grey tom rolled his shoulders back, then dropped into his best defensive crouch. He waited only a beat for Swiftheart's orders, but he was impatient - and he saw the perfect attack route already. Without waiting any longer for orders, Smokeytimber surged forward, his pawsteps quick and quiet as he rushed the dog's barely-awake form. It seemed to stir as Quillsplash and his patrol began their attack, but it wouldn't have time to get its bearings. He'd see to that.
When he was close enough, he gathered his haunches beneath him and leapt, landing square on the dog's back. From here, he could attack as he pleased, and the thought sent a thrill down his spine. Smokeytimber dug his claws in deep, even though he wasn't exactly scrabbling for purchase, and then dipped down, sinking his teeth into the back of the dog's neck. As he felt his teeth puncture its scruff, he bit down, hard. A harsh, pained howl escaped the hound as Smokeytimber's jaws clamped down powerfully, and he felt the thrill of the hunt course through him as he drew blood.
Smokeytimber used Bite, costing 5 EP and dealing 10 damage! Surprise Attack is in effect, costing an additional 10 EP and dealing an additional 3 damage!

If we did what was easy
Lilyvalley padded towards the rear of the patrol, choosing to remain silent, her eyes set firmly on the path ahead of her. There was not much to say, not really, and there was a clear job for the patrol to do.
It would be a lie if Lilyvalley were to say the thought of the dogs did not make the fur along her neck spike, but then again, she might just call any cat a fool if theirs did not. This was not a battle to be taken lightly. Where dogs lacked in intelligence, they made up for in strength. And there were two of them to deal with, today.
Listening as Quillsplash spoke, she gave a nod of confirmation at his instructions. She even offered Nettleweaver a grateful blink as he wished them luck, not that it was directed towards her. Still, she offered the same. "You too."
She could not help but be irked at Smokeytimber's words, however. She could appreciate the vote of confidence for the patrol, but that wasn't to mean that nothing could go wrong. Still, she held her tongue. The tom was young, she was sure he would learn in time.
She just hoped he would have that time to learn. Mentally, she decided she would have to make it a point to keep an eye on the tom, make sure he didn't get hurt.
Getting into position, she gave both Swiftheart and Smokeytimber a glance, just to make sure they were both set. Watching Swiftheart for her command.
And then Smokeytimber made his move.
Letting out a silent curse under her breath, Lilyvalley darted out, making a note to apologize to Swiftheart for not waiting for her. At that point, she couldn't afford to wait. She was sure her sister would understand.
Quillsplash's group converged on their dog, and Lilyvalley sunk her teeth into the waking dog's skin before drawing away.
She did not speak to Smokeytimber, but she did send a glare in his direction. She would leave the scolding to her sister.
And if Swiftheart didn't do anything about the tom's impatience, Lilyvalley would make sure something was done.
Lilyvalley used Bite, dealing 13 damage and costing 5 stamina. Surprise attack is in effect, for an additional 3 damage and cost of 10 stamina.
