Subject: Webkit's Apprentice Ceremony Fri 9 Aug 2024 - 9:59
"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"
Sablestrike could feel his stomach twist as the words came out, his eye glued to the medicine den as he waited for the clan to gather. He knew Heatherberry wouldn't be joining them, but he still held out hope that somehow the medicine cat had snuck her way into camp and found her place in the den once more. His hopes were shattered, of course.
Sunflare could see the disappointment in his cousin’s eyes, but he chose not to comment. Sablestrike was not in a good place to talk about whatever was bothering him. Perhaps after the ceremony, Sunflare would see if he needed a comforting shoulder.

Webkit, now herself very far from a kit, slipped from the medicine cat's den quietly at Sablestrike's call and sat nearby. She was well enough she didn't need to sleep there any longer, but she felt far too out of place sleeping in the nursery. Too much touching. And sound.
Kits talk a lot.
Webkit didn't really have a lot of interest in clan meetings, but she knew she was due for a change of name at some point. She should probably at least linger till she found out what the call was about. Her eyes unfocused, she stared at a fixed point around the middle of the Jaggedrock and listened idly.

A trail of gold followed Webkit out of the medicine den and to the place she had perched herself. She didn't have the color he had been watching for, but she was the kit he needed to address this night. The deputy closed his eye and breathed in deep. He wouldn't let this affect him more than it already had. "Webkit, please step forward."
Oh, who to give this kit to? Sablestrike thought on it for longer than he should have, leaving his golden eye to burn into the kit's pelt. So many warriors came to mind, but only a few stood out to him. "You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to begin your life as an apprentice. From this day on until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Webpaw. Your mentor will be Briarpatch. She is a newer warrior, but I trust she'll guide you just as well." Sablestrike vacated his spot on the Jaggredrock as soon as the words were free from his lips.

She blinked at the call of her name. She was half waiting to hear it, but it still surprised her when she did. She listened to Sablestrike's words, then rotated her head to stare at her sister for a moment. She was about to be trained by her littermate. One who frequently tried to socialize with and interact with her.
This would be something.

Web being called forward for her long overdue apprentice ceremony brought a smile to Briarpatch's face. A smile that morphed to an expression of slightly confused shock at hearing her own name follow. She... Was to mentor her littermate?? Was... Was Sablestrike sure about this? Oh stars, this was going to be awkward wasn't it? But she got to spend time with her sister, and that wasn't something Briarpatch would turn down.
Her grin widened as she padded forward, affectionately bumping her head against Webpaw's shoulder, "Come on, we'll explore the territory and get started with hunting." She mewed. She was a little nervous, truthfully, but would try to hide that. She hadn't expected an apprentice so soon after her own warrior ceremony, much less that apprentice being her own littermate.

SMOKEYTIMBER "i'll hum the song the soldiers sing . . . " he/him- t2 shadowclan warrior
Smokeytimber couldn't help but smile as he watched Webpaw be apprenticed - finally! - to Briarpatch. His sister, apprenticed to his other sister! He felt a bit of jealousy stir in the pit of his stomach, though. Did Sablestrike not think he was adequate enough to mentor Webpaw? Not that he wanted her as an apprentice - as much as he loved his sister, she wasn't... the brightest - but it was almost insulting. He'd earned his name before Briarpatch, after all.
But he shouldn't think that way. Briarpatch was an amazing warrior, and she'd be an amazing mentor to Webpaw. Smokeytimber shook his fur out and padded over to his littermates. "Hey, you two! Congrats! I'm glad you're feeling better, Webpaw. You'll catch up to us in no time." Smokeytimber purred.
