Moonlight spilled across rooftops, casting a serene glow over twolegplace. Scruff perched on the fence that bordered the lush big park with his glazed eyes staring into the midnight skies above. All was quiet and peaceful aside from the occasional chirp of a cricket. It didn't take long for the soft rustling of grass in the breeze to lull the elderly tom into sleep.

The frumpled tabby swayed on his resting place and hovered off-balance. With a slip of the paw, Scruff startled awake and a snore turned into an alarmed "Who's there? I'll warn ya tha' I ain' scared o' nobody.."

Lykaios was hungry. The pack hadn't eaten in several cycles of the sun and, with the moon well into its journey across the sky, now was the perfect time to hunt. They'd spread out at early dusk with the silent agreement to meet again before dawn, but it'd taken a surprising amount of time to catch any prey-scent. Now, with the tantalizing taste of sharpclaw scent on his tongue, Lykaios was determined to follow the trail. Oddly enough, he found himself at the edge of yet another longpaw settlement. It was small, but not terribly so. He'd have to remember the way here so he could bring the rest of the pack to scavenge if hunting was slow.

Though, that was but a mere afterthought with the promise of an entertaining chase just a few strides away. Yellowish eyes glinted in the shadows as Lykaios inched closer to the fence towards the sharpclaw, his heart thudding in his chest. It was a weak, scruffy creature - hardly worth the trouble - but it was better than nothing. Besides, it knew he was here, now. With an ominous sort of howl, the golden tom burst from the cover of undergrowth and raced up the tall partition of wood. Before the sharpclaw knew what was happening, he was upon it.

The old tom squinted at the dark undergrowth, unable to make anything out of the blur. Suddenly there was movement in the shadows, another cat leaping up the fence with terrifying speed. Scruff had no time to let out a startled yelp before he felt sharp teeth sinking into his shoulder. "Heavens- Stop tha' would ya?!" he hissed, eyes watering. I'm gettin' too old for tussles..

"You've no manners a' all!" he yowled, raising a sheathed paw high above the rude intruder. "Wha' kind of fella attacks sum'un who's try'na catch some peaceful sleep?" The elderly tom's whiskers twitched irritably before slamming the paw down firmly on the golden tom's forehead. With a tumble, the pair toppled over the fence, landing on the forest grass below. Upon landing, Scruff stifled a sharp gasp as he pulled out a bent paw from under their bodies. Must've landed on it wrong... Struggling up onto his paws, he leaned heavily on his good paws and hobbled away from the yellow-eyed aggressor, pulling into the brush.

Scruff used Smack dealing -6HP damage and costing 5EP!

Lykaios snarled ferociously as the elderly sharpclaw attempted to writhe free of his clawed grasp, eyes flashing with pain and fear. He savored the tang of blood the moment it bathed his tongue and whipped his tail to the side while a gleeful purr rose in his throat. Whatever nonsensical language it was yowling, he hardly understood a word of it as they tussled briefly atop the fence. However, much faster than he would have expected, a small paw came down atop his head. Unbalanced, he tumbled alongside his foe - paws over tails - to the hard ground below.

His head ached from the surprisingly rough blow the male had dealt but, from the feeling alone, he could tell it had not drawn blood. Did the little beast not possess claws like the others of its kind, or had it simply forgotten to use them? If it was the latter, he'd quickly make it regret such a poor decision. Grinning, he advanced on the retreating form of the sharpclaw and, his movement little more than a blur of golden fur, lashed out with one of his paws. His claws caught in the flesh of the old tom's hind leg and, upon making contact, Lykaios reared back, pulling his opponent from his paws once more. "Escape is not so easy, sharpclaw!"

Lykaios used Trip! Scrufflewump is stunned for 1 turn. -6 HP and -15 EP

The poor elderly cat let out a strangled cry as claws dug into his hind leg. Given no choice but to use them, his own claws dragged through the dirt and trampled leaves as he was yanked backwards. By now, Scruff was panting and his heart was beating so hard it hurt. He felt his body being hauled onto his back. Seems like I can't sweet talk ma' way outta' this one.. After all that he'd said, the stranger showed no signs of understanding, no retailation or explanation. Instead, he heard something like a growl but couldn't quite make out any words.

"Are ya' even from here?!" he huffed, a wild confusion in his eyes. A good while ago, Scruff would've put up a fierce fight and perhaps even won. However, time had seeped into his bones, making them heavy and cumbersome to move. His joints were worn and creaky, now unfit for scraps. It was all he could do to look the golden tom with a silent plea and press a sheathed paw firmly to the tom's chest, wheezing as he tried to catch his breath. I don't- I can't fight you..

Lykaios grinned wildly, his tail wagging furiously behind him as the old feline raked its claws uselessly through the dirt and leaves, its pelt stinking of fear. His jaws dropped open, longue lolling from his mouth as he sniffed the air, basking in the sharpclaw's terror and bloodscent. This was almost easier than hunting down a hare. Those, at least, managed to put him through an exhilarating chase. Though not as fun or challenging, with this particular feline, it was still thrilling to play around. Suddenly, a gentle pressure on his chest drew Lykaios up short, his pale green eyes glittering with just as much confusion, now. What the...what was it doing?

He hesitated for a moment and closed his jaw, shutting his teeth away behind skin and fur. Claws still dug into the sharpclaw's leg, holding it in place, Lykaios cocked his head to the side. "Strange little creature." He rumbled thoughtfully, gaze boring into its own. "Your life is under threat and all you can think to do it...what?" He looked the sharpclaw up and down disapprovingly. "What is this? Are you begging for your life, now?" The fool should know what a fruitless endeavor that was. Had it not seen a wolfdog like him before? Did it not understand the danger it was in? That this was a game of fight or flight and nothing else.

Lykaios has not attacked this turn.

Scruff could feel his heart beating wildly in his chest, the pressure tightening like a snake squeezing its prey. The old tom's breathing was quick and shallow, almost too shallow, and he wore a grimaced expression. This stranger's growling was the only other thing he could hear aside from the thumping of his heart which grew louder and louder until it was a deafening roar in his ears.

"I.. I can't breathe-" he wheezed, eyes squeezing shut. It didn't help with the dizzyness and nausea triggered by the pungent metallic scent of blood that wetted his leg. Each gasping breath only worsened the pain in his ribcage. It felt like one of those shiny monsters that bulldozed their way on the black stone paths had run over him. When he opened his eyes, he couldn't look straight, dark spots blocked his view and his eyes lolled up.

For a moment he thought he saw a warm glow behind his attacker. Tills...? "Not yet darlin'... you've still got the world to see. You can tell me all about it later.." A ghostly whisper reached his ears, gentle and familiar. Oh Tilly... I've missed you. With that, Scruff's eyes snapped open.

A rusty snarl rumbled in his throat and the elderly tom sprung to life. Pulling out from under the wolfdog in a burst of energy, he used all the pain he'd endured and hurled it back in a furious rain of claws aimed at the tom's soft underbelly.

Scrufflewump attempted a Belly Rake! It is successful and deals 12 HP damage.

The golden-furred wolfcat growled above the sharpclaw, a wild light behind his eyes at the sight of the old creature lying helplessly beneath him. He relished in the power he held over the elderly feline's life for several moments, his blood singing. Then, as though being punished by the gods for playing with his food, hot pain lanced through Lykaios's flesh. He scrambled back with a choked gasp as the sharpclaw dragged itself from under him, seemingly revitalized by such a near brush with death. He was baffled for a moment, at the pain that radiated from his underside before, suddenly, the stench of his own blood began to cloud the air.

Lykaios let out a guttural sort of noise, the sound something between a snarl and a whine, as warm blood began to drench the soft fur of his underbelly. He eyed the creature on the ground before him, its fur puffy with terror, and felt distain flood through him at the sight of the pitiful creature. He stepped towards the feline, intent on its death, when a wave of dizziness passed through him. He paused, confused, and glanced down, shocked by the sight of his own blood pooling on the ground beneath his paws.

Snarling, furious with both himself and the creature whose life he'd just held in his paws, Lykaios prowled around the feline. He eyed it for a moment, trying to imprint upon it how lucky it was to have survived - to be spared by him - before he turned and vanished into the undergrowth. Blood rolled in rivulets down his legs and dripped onto the forest floor beneath him as he silently slipped around trees and bushes, his steps growing more unsteady the longer he travelled. He thought back to the elderly feline, though, periodically, and felt hot rage wash over him. The foul beast would not be so fortunate a second time.

Lykaios has disengaged and ended combat.
