Making up Lost Time

Time, was a seeming constant and one that seemed to always be moving against Rapidfire, each day she knew she needed to spend more time with her family which she desperately wanted to do but life kept getting in the way. Well, now that Creamlily was a warrior there was no excuse for her any longer.

And... something Creamlily had said during her ceremony rang true in her ears, she could pick the patrols and even if at first she had to force her daughter to spend time with her she hoped she could do two things, firstly make up for lost time she hadnt always been there when cream was younger with rain and bug who were sickly.

Secondly she hoped with time maybe her daughter would want to spend time with her too and not just be forced due to patrol scheduling.

"Cream? Ready to go" she meowed as she saw her daughter approaching the clan exit. She gave a little smile and purr, "come on kiddo"

Stars, how she hated the idea she had given Rapidfire during her warrior ceremony. Now she was stuck on patrol with her mother, the deputy's chirpy voice ringing in her ear like a fly. And to be called two names that were not her warrior name? Horrible. It rang like disrespect in her. She hadn't trained so hard just to be called... kiddo. The rest of her litter may still be stuck in the nursery, but she wasn't, and she wasn't a kit anymore! When was Rapidfire going to get it in her head that Creamlily wasn't some child in need of guidance anymore?

With a frustrated hiss, the tabby quickened her pace, making sure to put distance between her and her mother. She made a quick excuse, calling over her shoulder that she had spotted a hare, before promptly disappearing into the tall grass. She took a moment to regain her composure before actually looking for a hare. It was still a hunting patrol, wasn't it? Creamlily flicked her tail as she spotted her target, and with strong leaps, she hurled herself at the hare, claws unseathed and ready to sink into flesh.

She reached her target easily, finishing it off before it even had a heartbeat to react to the sudden change. As the limp thing hung from her jaws, and blood dribbled down her chin, Creamlily felt satisfaction surge through her. Here was prove, as obvious as the sun, that she wasn't a kit anymore. And Rapidfire would do well to see it as such.

Rapidfire hadn’t even realized her names had offended her daughter. She had hoped that this would have helped things but almost immediately her daughter was darting away focused on the task. She was left alone looking at where creamlily had disappeared to. She dropped her tail slightly. All the times she swore she would spend more time with her kits than her father had with her and it had got her nowhere but exactly where soot had ended up. Distant and far away from all of them. Her siblings had blamed him and while she never blamed him she understood why her siblings felt that way now. Creamlily was back within a moment it felt like. Rapidfire gave a nod at the hare.

Creamlily? I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you more. Perhaps it’s not something you want now. You can go home now. Your point is understood, you are not a kit anymore and my opportunity for that is gone. Your next patrol will be with that friend of yours viper paw. I think seeing your old denmate might do you some good she meowed with a flick of her tail.

It was unclear how much Rapidfire knew of creamlily and viper paws relation. Did she really think they were friends just bantering on the day of her daughters ceremony?? Or did she realize something more? Her face revealed nothing.

As a warrior it’s your job to also help the apprentices we still have even if not your direct apprentice. Tomorrow I want you to take them hunting and report back to me how it goes

Stars, couldn't Rapidfire keep her mouth shut? Creamlily seethed silently as the deputy went on and on, apologising for this and that. Was her mother that dense? What, did she think this was a matter of "I'm so sworry I wasn't there more"? Hah! As if Creamlily ever needed Rapidfire's presence. Before she could correct the deputy, however, a familiar name slipped out of the deputy's mouth. Viperpaw. The very name made her lips curl and her heart race faster; oh how she hated that apprentice! And now she was being punished-- punished!-- to have to drag that insolent flea-bag out and spend, what, an entire morning with that creature? A shriek of protest escaped the tabby-- what had she even done to deserve that? She had hunted the rabbit, just as she was meant to, on a hunting patrol, and now Rapidfire was making her suffer for it? Sorry, had she forgotten about the "obey your deputy's every whim and command" part in her warrior vows?

Creamlily's tail lashed furiously as she rounded on Rapidfire. "Don't be ridiculous, I'm not taking that- that foxheart out for anything! Don't punish me for no reason, you have no grounds to decide that!" Anger was curling at her tongue, a thousand insults ready to rip into the cat standing before her. Did Rapidfire think she was so great that her presence was actually desired? Creamlily hated her, hated her softness, her always so peace-loving preaches and her awful, awful role as deputy that she didn't even deserve. Creamlily was nothing like her- she was better, she would be better, she'd prove it! She was better than that dumb Viperpaw, better than this weak Rapidfire, better than the creepy Falconpaw, she was better than all of them. A scream ripped at her throat, but she reared it in. She was in control, wasn't she?

Rapidfire's eyes narrowed in disaproval of her kits antics. The deputy was sweet most of the time but she was hard headed and would get her way. She was not about to be pushed around by her kit throwing a tentrum tantrum and surely not going to put up with her own daughter calling another one of their clanmates names like that.

She stared an icy cold gaze onto Creamlily that only a mother could give. One of disappointing at her daughters actions. She let silence fall over for a couple seconds letting Creamlily sulk in the broth her own self pity she had brought upon herself.

"Punish you by sending you on patrol with a clanmate? ... her tone was different now too, not her usual chirpy and happy one. It was cold with disaproval and shock that her own daughter was acting like a kit once again... wasn't it rainkit that was sick with the cold and still a kit??

"That language is unacceptable to use on anyone yet alone a clanmate, I expected better from you. For the rest of the day, you will be helping the queens with new nesting for the nursery and tomorrow you will be on elder tick removal.

The deputy was well aware tick removal was an apprentice job, her daughter would hate her all the more for it, so be it. Creamlily would learn what punishment was, and if any of this attitude continued she could dish out more faster than Creamlily could loath her for it. If Cream wanted to sulk and never talk to her again she would be sad sure but her job was to keep a clan running not babysit her grown kit,

what did cream expect?! 'oh im so sorry dear I didnt know you didnt like that clanmate, here let momma rapid change that all around the entire hunting schedule so you dont have to grow up'

FORGET IT!

She lashed her tail angerly. "It's time for you to grow up, the humility of the elders den job will teach you humility, to think about others more and hopefully if nothing else the bad taste of ticks in your mouth will make you watch your tongue more carefully in the future. You will be going with Viper and I will be there as well to make sure you start making ammends towards them.

She had never been this furious before, perhaps it was because it was her kit and she truely had expected better from them.

"Dismissed, go on go home"

Rapidfire was angry. If Creamlily were still a kit, she would have been scared. Some part of her was probably scared too, even now. But the main part of her wasn't scared. Oh, no, she was furious. The punishment dished out to her-- the second punishment of today-- that was something apprentices did. Clearly, Rapidfire did not think she was worthy of a warrior. She didn't think all the hard work Creamlily put in to become a warrior before Viperpaw, before majority of her denmates, some of them even a few moons older than her, was worth anything. Obviously, the only thing that mattered to Rapidfire was her reaction to what words Creamlily used for an apprentice she did not even know. Anger bubbled within her, her claws itching to dig into Rapidfire's mouth and rip that tongue out.

Shut up. Creamlily lashed her tail, not backing down despite the deputy's dismissal. "Just because you never had another cat make their life miserable for their entire apprenticehood doesn't mean I didn't. Viperpaw deserves every insult I can give her, because, believe me, I've been called the same!" Her shriek echoed across the moor, ringing with fury. If any predators were around now, they would surely hear her, but she didn't care. They were fools if they tried to attack her; she'd gorge their eyes out.

"If you thought you tried to put in effort today to be a mother; you didn't. You are horrible at apologising and tried to punish me as a form of apology. And when I was angry-- as any cat would when they're forced to deal with a cat they tried so hard to become a warrior so that they could avoid-- you decided I needed humbling? Where did that apology go, dear mother? Don't tell me to grow up-- I GREW UP WITHOUT YOU."

Creamlily took a deep breath, her entire body heaving from the long string of words that she had all but spit at Rapidfire. Seething, she whipped around, facing her back towards the deputy and the Camp. "I'm not going to Camp today. Clearly, that's not a place worth staying. I'll consider if I'm even coming back tommorrow-- and if I see your face once more today, the answer will be no." Did she mean most of what she said? She didn't know. Maybe not. At least, not about the part of not returning. But she'd like to see how much her mother cared-- if Rapidfire would even give two mousetails about her and try to stop her.
