Beankit sat at the front of the Nursery den peering out at all the warriors and apprentices bustling about in camp. A sad sigh escaped the young tom’s lips. When would the high ranks acknowledge him and make him an apprentice. He knew he could be the best the clan had ever seen but here he lay still in the nursery den.
He was so enveloped in his pouting that he hadn’t noticed his younger sister had made her way to his side. His focus was on a pair of apprentices sparring and rolling each other into the dirt. “Oh, how I long to be able to do that!” Beankit cried out with sad green eyes locked onto the older cats.

Mushroomkit strode up to the nursery's entrance, her path enthusiastically punctuated by a bounce to the spot beside Beankit. Unfortunately, her big paws failed to stay out of each other's way, nearly causing the young molly to fall flat on her face! Luckily, she recovered. With a bright smile, she turned toward her brother, only to realize he hadn't even noticed her. She looked at where he was staring. Woah! Look at those guys go! Mushroomkit too became enthralled by the performance, although not with the same attitude as Beankit. He cried out in frustration, making her pair of green eyes turn just as sad as his. Quickly, she nudged her head against his shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. You'll get there one day!" she encouraged. Popping up between Beankit and the apprentices, she continued, "And until then, who says you can't do all that tussling right now?" The she-kit dove into a playful bow, her stubbed tail wiggling back and forth. "Come on, show me your best moves!" Mushroomkit was quite confident she could roll him into the dirt just as well as any apprentice.

Beankit nearly jumped out of the nursery when Mushroomkit pressed her head against his shoulder. “Geez Mushroomkit let someone know you’re there before making their heart stop!” he hissed defensively before flicking his tail across her back. “Let’s go tussle you sneaky fox!” He purred as he walked out the entrance of the den and got in a defensive stance.
“Ladies first!” He chirped then crouched down ready for anything his sister could throw at him.

The sneaky fox snickered rapturously. Was she really that stealthy? Or did he just need better ears? No matter which, she hadn’t meant to scare him. "Sorry," Mushroomkit mewed before following him outside. The sun was so bright and warm against her back. Perfect for a nap, but now was not the time. She couldn’t let Beankit continue to be all sad and silly about waiting.
"Ladies first!" he said. The russet kitten smirked and prepared her attack, bouncing side to side. Once she had decided on a move Mushroomkit briefly crouched, then sprung! Beankit’s cute golden face served as her landing zone.

Everything recoiled. Her ears flicked back, tail curled, paws withdrawn. "Sorry!" she squeaked. She could see his teardrops fly as he pounced on her, forcing her to the ground. "I didn't mean to hurt you," she swore in a softer language, tears beginning to dot her eyes too.

Beankit removed some of the pressure his paws put on his sister and turned his head to the sky to prevent any more tears from sliding down his cheek. He couldn’t be caught crying over small things if he was going to be the best warrior the clans had ever seen!
”It’s ok Mushroom, I just don’t want my perfect face scarred is all! Beankit mewed with a slight chuckle.

The breath she held broke with a shakey chuckle of relief. Beankit wasn't yelling anymore, but she wasn't sure if he was really, fully okay. Mushroomkit shifted out from under him to reach up and press her cheek against his neck. "You're right Bean, your face is perfect. I won't mark it, I promise."
She stepped back and wiped her eyes of any remaining tears, trying not to sniffle. "Okay, now it's your turn to go first- well, only if you still want to play." A smile slowly returned to the molly's maw. "That pin was great by the way!" she purred.

”Of Course I still want to play!” Beankit mewed as he planted a solid smack on his sister’s shoulder. His claws remained sheathed as he smacked his sister with his other paw on her other shoulder. The young tom jumped back, arching himself up in a defensive step and puffed out his pelt to make him seem even larger than Mushroomkit.

"Hey!" she laughed at his quick swipes. The little kitten began bouncing around her brother and looking for an opportunity to strike back. His intimidating look made her hesitate for a while. But finally, she dashed behind Beankit and pounced onto his back. "Got you!" With no active claws to grip him with, Mushroomkit rolled off harmlessly.
