Subject: Forged in Chaos [Mistflower] Mon 27 May 2024 - 18:34
The dogs had been given the treatment they deserved, Skyclan's fallen buried with respect, and life... Kept moving. Patrols were assigned, days and nights passed. The days grew unfortunately warmer for the thick-furred warrior, but she almost felt as if she could relax. Being out on the territory with Mistflower, with no pressing crisis for once... It was almost enough to make Stoneheart smile.
"Hear that, sister?" Stoneheart asked softly, "Not quiet but... No dogs barking. It felt like that was all I've been hearing for moons." Oh, what a relief it was, to only hear the birdsong and chattering of squirrels in the trees above, to only hear the quiet creek and the wind rustling the leaves around them.

you never had a chance, you know
After they had successfully defended their camp, Mistflower found herself trailing after her sister. That they could move freely throughout their territory, without fear of sudden and unexpected assault, was something she supposed she had come to take for granted. And yet it was a freedom that could be so swiftly lost.
"It never is quiet," she spoke softly. "Not really. But not hearing their barking and howling is a relief."
The sounds of wind and birdsong were among her favorites, those near-invisible signs of life. The chirping of birds out of sight, the way the invisible wind ruffled the leaves and the grass and the flowers. But the rushing water was by far the best sound in the forest, as far as she was concerned.
Though, one concern weighed over the others; even over the sorrow that seemed so heavy it was entirely unshakable. She was always prone to worrying, those fears and anxieties were as familiar to her as the branches she patrolled with ease.
"I guess it's not totally quiet." That type of silence was just as threatening as the dogs' barking, Stoneheart conceded. The type of silence that had indicated a complete lack of prey, that had driven the clan from their territory just to survive. Now on the cusp of greenleaf the forest was full of life, birds chirping in the trees and the wind in their fur.
"I hope so." She didn't know if it would last. The pessimist - realist? - in her said it wouldn't. But she felt... Strangely optimistic with the biggest threat now defeated. "Stars know we could use a bit of peace for more than a couple moons. I bet the other clans have to feel the same too." As for the forest itself only the stars knew, really.
