Thunder and lightning had rumbled and clacked in the sky for what seemed like moons with no end in sight. Finally, it had decided to stop although the clouds still clogged the night sky. Larkshine made her way out of the warrior’s den and into the soggy camp. A drop of rain landed on her head and rolled down her face, but she quickly shook it off and fluffed up her coat. The clan was definitely going to need fresh kill after a big storm like that.
She walked over to the apprentice den, surely one of them would want to go hunting with her. She nudged Briarpaw, but her apprentice didn’t budge. She looked around and most of the younger cats were still curled up tightly and sleeping, but Juniperpaw was not. “Juniperpaw, would you like to come hunting with me?” Larkshine mewed softly with a smile. I wish I could go back in time; not to change anything, but to feel a few things twice.
The dreams of the Monster kept her awake, from the moment she settled into her nest to the time the sun set and the moon peeked at her over the pine trees. She could still distantly hear the pleas and cries of cats who had been taken from her home, and she would still be among them, one of them, had it not been for Quillsplash. she was shaking lightly in her nest when a gentle voice broke through her thoughts. Larkshine, Briarpaw's mentor, was offering to... go hunting with her? The apprentice blinked blankly at the warrior for a few heartbeats before nodding hesitantly. Maybe a hunt would distract her for a little while. And she could always use some extra practise. "Okay, let's go," Juniperpaw agreed, slipping out of the den to join Larkshine.

Larkshine Tier 3 Warrior | Shadowclan | She/Her
A small smile formed on Larkshine’s face as the apprentice followed her out of the den and into the forest. The forest was still and quieter than normal and Larkshine remained on high alert. Maybe tonight wasn’t the best night to go hunting but they were already out and about. A small croaking came from a nearby tree and the young warrior dropped down into a crouch. A decently disguised frog was clinging onto the bark of a large tree.
Larkshine contemplated on wither she should attempt to catch the frog but waited too long and it hopped off the tree into the nearby marsh. She turned back to Juniperpaw and motioned her forward with a flick of her tail. Maybe they would have better luck a little further into the forest.

Juniperpaw trailed after Larkshine, watching the frog leap away before looking back at the warrior. Was there a reason they didn't go after it? Maybe it was something she hadn't learnt yet, or Larkshine was just as distracted as she was. With a shrug, the black apprentice padded after the older she-cat as they set off once more. Once they were deeper into the marshland, she caught the scent of mouse. Perfect. Hunting was one of the few skills she was able to somewhat master. After she got over her queasiness at taking another life, that was. Swiftly, she pounced and killed off the small rodent, picking it up to display to Larkshine. It was alright to start hunting now, right?

Larkshine Tier 3 Warrior | Shadowclan | She/Her
A purr rattled from Larkshine’s chest; she was always happy to see apprentices excel in their task! “Good catch Juniperpaw! Keep it up and you could easily feed the whole clan yourself!” She chirped with a flick of her tail, before turning away and crouching down. Larkshine was frustrated with herself, she couldn’t understand why she couldn’t catch anything. Every patrol she went on she missed most of her prey. Her head dropped as she fought back the tears that nipped at her eyes.
A blur of grey flashed in front of the young warrior and instinctively she lunged forward and closed her claws around the critter. The mouse shrieked before going limp. She did it! Larkshine jumped up quickly in disbelief, this was her first kill in what seemed like ages! She quickly picked the mouse up and buried it next to Juniperpaw’s catch.

Juniperpaw's ear twitched at the compliment, a pleasant feeling of pride rippling through her pelt. Of course, she understood that Larkshine's words were largely exaggerated, but still... it was nice to have another cat think she was good at something. She didn't think she was that great at hunting but she was better at it than fighting. Larkshine was quick to catch her prey quickly enough, and seemed quite excited as she buried it next to Juniperpaw's catch. Did she not catch mice often? "Thanks. Your catch was pretty neat too," She returned the warrior's praise in a whisper.
Her gaze swept over the pine forest once again. There had to be something in the shadows that would be considered prey... her ears snapped to one side as the rustling of bushes caught her attention. Was that a... rabbit? No, it was much bigger than a rabbit. Juniperpaw's eyes widened as the hare emerged from the bushes, limping as it went along. It had yet to see her or Larkshine... would she even be able to catch it? The hare was huge, easily as large as the petite she. This wasn't good... perhaps she should alert Larkshine so that the warrior could catch it for her? She made to turn her head to speak to the older she, but the movement startled the hare, and it bursted off. A yelp of protest escaped Juniperpaw, and instantly she raced after the hare. Thanks to it's limp, it wasn't long before the apprentice had caught up with it, and after much struggle, killed it. A hare! This had to be her biggest catch yet.
A loud purr rumbled through Larkshine’s chest as the young cat appeared out of the underbrush dragging a hare. “Great catc…” She was interrupted as a rabbit darted by. Quickly Larkshine gave chase and was on top of the smaller critter with just a few bounds. She grabbed a hold of its neck, wrestling it to the ground. Larkshine quickly dispatched the creature and then joined the apprentice once again.
“Sorry about that! I was trying to tell you that was a good catch!” Larkshine chirped before setting the rabbit next to Juniperpaw’s larger hare. It was impressive that the young molly had caught a creature roughly the same size as her!
