Some days, he didn't love WindClan as much as he should.

On those days, he remembered Flutterpetal and Adderwind's deaths. Batsong, Sparrowthorn, and Daisyfang. Shrikestorm, and the Gathering. Smallstar, Finchspeckle, Berrypaw, Jayfrost, Sleepyhollow, Vulturepaw, Dustpaw, and Goldengale. Aspenpaw, his brother. Ferntwist, his first mate, and their kits, Dustpaw, Rabbitkit, Greykit, Acornkit and Quickfrost. His adopted son Tallshadow.

His friends, his family, his leader and medicine cats, all gone.

Some days, he wished he was still an apprentice, with his littermate by his side and still busy messing around trying to impress his crush.

And he would find himself at the Fourtrees. How ironic that he would come back here, when the night that changed every thing had taken place here. Where he had gotten the burn at the side of his face from trying to stop a war that happened regardless. He'd enjoy the silence, the peace, of a place where there was no soul around but him. The birds sang so sweetly at night, and sometimes he'd hum along.

Today, however, he wasn't alone. The shuffling of undergrowth stopped Sootstorm mid-hum, and wary green eyes darted to where the noises had come through. Had a predator found him and was now trying to get a late-night snack? His claws slid out and sank into the dirt, and he braced himself for a beast to lunge at him.
