Finally... I thought that leaf-bare would never end. The day dawned bright and sunny, full of sudden birdsong and the gentle rushing of the river which bulged across its banks snowmelt-full. A perfect day to lie on the Sunningrocks and let the new warmth soak into your pelt. He'd been glad to get assigned to the border patrol along the line between them and ThunderClan--gladder than usual. Normally the scent of their bracken-dwelling neighbors set him on edge. But with this nice weather, there was nothing he wanted more than to lie on the flat stones and finally chase away the cold ache from his bones. If they did what they were supposed to quickly enough, then odds were there would be time to relax. He didn't know his patrolmate very well, though. Cindersky, her name was. Larkspring's friend, if he recalled correctly, though she seemed to be popular. Lately, though, she'd looked very downcast. He supposed it made sense--the war had been awful, and she'd been on the wrong end of some nasty blows. It probably wasn't a good time to try and chat her up. But still, he didn't want to remain completely quiet on their walk. Unless she told him to shut up. Then he'd leave her alone. Dovetail glanced over at her as they neared Sunningrocks. "Nice weather today, isn't it?" he asked, hoping that he didn't sound awkward. "Sun's out, finally. Should we warm our pelts a bit?"
