Let's Fly Together[OPEN hunting patrol]

Mistypaw padded along with Sootstorm, a cold, blank look on her face. Newleaf was coming; at least that was something she could look forward to. She gave Sootstorm a small smile. She wasn’t all depressing; it was just that she was unsure of everything. That was the correct term for everything. She spotted a rabbit racing across the moors and unsheathed her claws, crouching lowly before swiftly jumping into action, narrowing her eyes before tumbling on the ground. She flicked her tail to signal she was alright; the snow broke her fall. Luckily, all before the tumble, she clawed the rabbit, killing it.

It was rare that Minkpaw turned down the chance to get out on the moor... so when Sootstorm came looking for volunteers for a hunting patrol, the red tabby spoke up immediately. Eager to stretch her legs, Minkpaw followed the patrol from camp, sticking to the deputy's side as he led them through the snow. It was a nice day, despite the chill, the sky cloudless and with very little wind to cut through fur or give away their position. Her eyes swept the landscape in front of them, searching, and eventually spotting a couple of rabbits in the distance.

One split off from the group, and Mistypaw darted after it. Minkpaw stood tall, ears forward, watching as her denmate closed in on the rabbit. "I'm going to go for the other ones, before they get spooked," she told him, practically bouncing on her paws. "I'll circle around and chase them this way!"

Without waiting for a response, Minkpaw broke into a trot, making a wide circle around the rabbits until she was well on the other side of them. Now, they were in the middle of her and Sootstorm, and no matter which direction they fled, there would be a cat to cut them off.

There was a light commotion as Mistypaw downed her target, and the other rabbits startled, dashing for a hole in the ground that Minkpaw leaped forward to block. They turned heel and fled in the direction of the deputy, and Minkpaw gave chase, paws churning up snow in her wake. Bit by but, she closed the distance, until the rabbit was only a tail length ahead of her... then half that... she stretched out a paw, and with a swipe, hooked her claws into the rabbit's hind leg.

It squealed as she pulled it in close, the two of them tumbling for a second before she closed her jaws on the back of the creature's neck, silencing it. The third rabbit, distracted by the happenings behind it, streaked straight towards Sootstorm.

Minkpaw has successfully caught a rabbit.

Cloudypetal immediately offered to come along on this hunting patrol! It was so nice to be out on the moorland and it cleared her mind. It warmed her heart to see the next batch of apprentices offer to come along, too.

Her eyes sparkled with amusement as Mistypaw tumbled, yet she was still proud. She got the kill! She felt a little worried, though, for this small apprentice. What if she got hurt? What would we do without Daisyfang if she broke something? Her eyes suddenly flashed with concern. "Mistypaw!" Cloudypetal called out to the apprentice from the group. "You okay? Great job!" She added, her tone laced with concern but still prideful. The flick of Mistypaw's tail was all that she needed, and she released a soft laugh before nodding. It's time for my hunt, then. She thought, splitting off from the group.

The moor was beautiful. A pristine white canvas occasionally interrupted by a tuft of grass peeking through the snow. It was peaceful. The silence was broken only by the crunch of her paw steps in the snow. Her eyes caught a sudden movement. Intrigued, she crouched low - watching a small rabbit emerge from its hiding place. With a sudden burst of energy, she lunged forward - closing the distance between herself and the unsuspecting rabbit.

Cloudypetal scared the rabbit away.

The rabbit sensed the impending danger and reacted with lightning speed, making a sudden evasive leap. It narrowly escaped the grasp of Cloudypetal's outstretched claws. No! Momentarily stunned by the rabbit's quick escape, quickly regained her composure and pursued the rabbit. Despite her best efforts, though, the rabbit made clever use of the moor. In fact, she ran straight into a weasel that wanted her catch instead.

She released a loud unhappy hiss, taking her frustration out on the aggressive weasel by hurling herself at it, claws unsheathed. He'll be prey instead!

Cloudypetal used Jumping Strike on Weasel, dealing 11 (8+3) damage and using - 7SP.

Both Crakeburn and Pipitpaw had followed the summons of the deputy to join the hunting patrol. The patterned molly had been hoping to join in on a hunting patrol to keep working at her shoulder. Short sprints were now much more doable, and that was quite beneficial. Pipitpaw, on the other paw, had simply been voluntold for the patrol. It would be good practice for her, anyways, and she'd hopefully be able to show off a catch or two to the other apprentices.

That stopped as a particularly unenthused hiss came from one of their clanmates, and both spun and charged directly in the direction of the sound. It was Cloudypetal. Galestorm's sister.

Crakeburn's teeth snapped directly at the creature at the same time Pipitpaw had rammed it with her head. She didn't quite feel like getting blood on her white fur just yet, so knocking the air from the tiny creature's lungs was going to be good enough, especially as Crakeburn's fangs had sunk into the creature's fur.

Crakeburn used Snap for 8 damage and 7 stamina!
Pipitpaw used Headbutt for 4 damage and 5 stamina!

The weasel got KO'd. :)

"Yeah, I’m fine," Mistypaw responded to Cloudypetal, meeting her gaze with a cold, plain look. She didn’t want to talk with the other cats, so she merely looked away from Cloudypetal and approached a mouse crawling on the surface of the moor. She turned around and suddenly wished she hadn’t gone on this patrol, narrowing her eyes. What’s the use of hunting when the rest were hunting enough? She pretended to swipe her claws at the mouse but then let it get away. "Oops...!" she meowed. Was she a good liar? Was that a good lie? She looked back at the rest; they didn’t seem too focused on her. She merely swished her tail and walked back to them with empty paws.

Auburnrain had been further behind, doing her own thing without a care in the world or a single regard for anyone that wasn't her. The brief sound of yowling and scent of blood did catch her attention though, and the young warrior picked up the pace to see what was going on. The fun was over before she could even get to it, and she sighed with disappointment. Just a weasel.

"Well that sure was a lot of screaming over nothing..." She said dismissively as she talked passed her patrol with a flick of her tail. Her blue eyes were already scanning the moor for something to hunt. A bird was spotted, a robin maybe? Whatever, it was about to die anyway so who cares what it was?

Auburnrain crouched low and stalked toward the robin, eyeing it hungrily as she imagined snapping it's neck with her fangs. The bird itself seemed unaware that an entire patrol of cats was there... so she'd be doing the forest a favor by killing it off before the stupid spread like wildfire.

Auburnrain attempted to catch a bird! She was SUCCESSFUL! -3SP

She leaped from the grass and her claws landed on the bird before it could do so much as a flutter. Her teeth enclosed around it's head and she bit down, a soft crunch and some panicked tweeting, before the bird went still. Auburnrain brought her catch back to the patrol with a hefty sigh through the feathers. What she'd like to see is a dog.

Crakeburn's tail lashed with annoyance at the creature as its life was surely ended, and she tossed her head back towards her father. "I think we're alright, pa." She said with a nod.

Pipitpaw, meanwhile, had gone off to try and catch something useful for prey. Her ears twitched at the sound of a critter, the rabbit drawing her attention. It only took a heartbeat later for her to decide to go after it. This one seemed particularly easy to catch, as her legs carried her swiftly before she cut it off, ending the creature's life with a swift bite around its neck. Picking up her kill, she pridefully trotted her way back to the patrol. This one would make Galestorm proud.
