A small sigh left Tigerstar as he walked along the border. The scent of the recent patrol strong in his nose. The border was secure but the leader had a lot on his mind. After everything that had been happening lately, there was so much to deal with. Between Shadowclan and his medicine cat disappearing, he felt like he really didn't know what to do. It honestly felt like since he became leader he couldn't stop thinking even when the walk was meant to help him clear his mind.

The tom let out another heavy sigh as he tried to sort through the issues up until he heard a soft 'click'. He didn't really have time to process the sound when the large metal contraption closed around him. Sharp teeth digging into his body, causing the leap to let out a sharp yelp. Blood scent filled the air as Tigerstar tried to escape the unknown contraption only causing him more pain. He couldn't escape. He couldn't move because it would only cause the situation to get worse.. The striped tom opened his eyes that he didn't know he had closed and looked around. No one was around, and would be around any time soon. The patrol had already come through. Any type of movement cause the contraption to dig in more, causing more pain.

What was he going to do? What could he do? Tears stung at the corner of his eyes due to the pain he was feeling. He could feel blood running down his body. It was only a matter of time before this thing took his first life.. Would this thing also take the rest? Would Windclan come to find him dead only a few moons into his leadership? He didn't want to die just yet.. He wanted to stay with Windclan but he fell into this stars cursed contraption.

Hemlockfox's heart was heavy as he made yet another trek to the Moonstone. The last time he had come this way, it had been with Birdstar by his side and now...she was dead, murdered by RiverClan's treacherous leader. They had never been particularly close, but since becoming a medicine cat, that had begun to change. Now, though, he never would get the chance to get to know her like much of the rest of his kin did. She had been one of his last ties to Juniperheart, for Sunfire had clearly moved on from his mother. The fur along the tom's spine prickled at the thought of his golden-pelted father. They drifted further apart every day and it had all begun with him becoming a medicine cat all those moons ago.

Apparently, now that he was no longer a warrior, he was of little interest. Now, it was all about his shiny new siblings - all seven of them. The term made his mouth dry and sour. He didn't feel any sort of familial bond towards the little kits Sunfire cared for so passionately for. No, they were simply a replacement for the first litter that had gone wrong - him and his sisters. He was a medicine cat, and his sisters were all too soft for Sunfire's liking...whatever plan the warrior had for these new kits...it almost worried Hemlockfox.

Regardless, it wouldn't be his problem much longer. And, hopefully, it wouldn't even trouble his sisters either - if all went according to plan. As much as he hated to admit it, little remained for them in Skyclan. Birdstar and Juniperheart were gone and Sunfire may as well be for how little he seemed to care for them now. He was only concerned with turning their clan into a militia. Not long ago, Hemlockfox may have agreed with his ideals, but now that he'd seen what war could do...the implications and dangers it brought...he couldn't condone it. Beechfang and Birdstar had already died due to his folly, how many more would fall to his arrogance?

The tom swept through the tall, yellow grasses of WindClan's territory, his icy gaze fixed on the looming planes of Highstones. Who would be next? Bubblebeam? Him? That new family he cherished? Hemlockfox's ears pinned back against his head. He had to get his sisters out of SkyClan before Sunfire took things even further. As he brooded, a yowl echoed across the vast plains, followed by the sharp tang of blood in the air. His hackles lifted and the tom scented the air. WindClan - mousedung. He couldn't afford any detours, but he couldn't leave a wounded cat in good conscious...especially a WindClanner.

Supressing an annoyed growl, Hemlockfox turned towards the smell and broke into a run, following the coppery trail. As he crested a hill, gaze roving the moor, a familiarly striped pelt caught his eye. "Tigerstar..." The name left his jaws as a breathless whisper and the medicine cat raced down the hill, coming to a rest beside the leader. His lips curled into half grimace half smile at the opportunity before him. If he saved Tigerstar now, he would be indebted to him - perhaps he'd be willing to let him bring his sisters to WindClan? Shushing the older tom, Hemlockfox hovered a paw thoughtfully over the gleaming metal teeth locked around Tigerstar's leg.

"Hush now, I've got you." He got to his paws and scanned the undergrowth for a moment before finding it - a large boulder. Turning, Hemlockfox hurried to the boulder and peered beneath it. With a purr of satisfaction, he swiped a paw through the darkness, gathering large swathes of cobwebs. Returning to Tigerstar's side, he settled beside him and nipped several burrs from a nearby plant. How could he possibly free the WindClan leader?

Just then, it hit him. With an uncertain set to his jaw, Hemlockfox Grasped the jaws of the twoleg trap with his paws, and leveraged a nearby rock between the glinting teeth. As the jaws of the contraption lifted from Tigerstar's leg, fresh blood seeped from the wound. "Quick!" Hemlockfox ordered. "Pull yourself out!" There was no time to be patient - if they didn't move fast, Tigerstar could very well remain trapped and...well...all the lives in the world wouldn't be able to save him.

By the time the medicine cat arrived, Tigerstar had already gotten very weak from blood loss. Still, the leader tried his best to keep himself upright. He tried to keep himself quiet, giving a single grunt in response to the tom's words, waiting as patiently as he could to escape the situation he was in, despite the ever growing pain he was feeling. A single green eye that remained open tried to track the Skyclan medicine cat but his vision was faint. It was hard to follow without feeling dizzy from blood loss. The striped tom squeezed his eyes shut once again, trying to focus on staying awake no matter how much sleep called to him.

Eventually the grip the contraption had on him lessened, Hemlockfox's words muffled in his ears as his heart beat picked up, and the tom pulled himself free. Not caring about any additional injuries that would have been caused in the process. As soon as he was fully free the Windclan leader collapsed to the ground, chest heaving, head spinning, world blurring. He didn't know if he would make it. Even with a medicine cat around. He didn't have strength to speak. He just hoped he would be helped.

Heart hammering in his chest, Hemlockfox swiftly kicked the twoleg trap away, flinching as the metal teeth clanged shut once more with a snap. With a growl of frustration, the medicine cat nearly pounced on Tigerstar in his haste to stop the blood from pouring out of his mauled leg. Staring down at the torn, mess below him, Hemlockfox couldn't decide if it would be best to try to heal Tigerstar, or let StarClan intervene. On the one paw, if the leader survived, he would forever be marred by this incident - he may never walk right again. On the other, if he let him bleed out, StarClan would heal him of the deadly injury. Or, at least, part of it.

The seal point tom frowned severely, hesitating. The bones in Tigerstar's leg had surely been crushed by the strong, metal contraption. If he saved him now, the chances of him hunting or even running again were slim. That was no life for a leader. Snarling low in his throat, Hemlockfox sat back on his haunches, watching closely as Tigerstar slowly bled out. "I can't save your leg." He explained, unsure if his words would even penetrate the other tom through the pain.

"It will hurt, but StarClan will bring you back...then, I can tend to what remains." He meowed slowly, voice strained. Would Tigerstar understand his reason for letting him die or would he come back from StarClan and rage against him for letting him lose a life? Would all of WindClan seek out retribution for his decision here? Would they want to take out their anger on SkyClan? Hemlockfox shook his head and quickly readied the cobwebs he had collected. There weren't any other herbs around that he could smell - it was leafbare after all - so this would have to do. And, with any luck, he could get Tigerstar home before he lost another life.

Fear filled Tigerstar more when he heard Hemlockfox's next words. A windclanner without their legs was like a fish without fins.. Useless in their home.. He couldn't deal with that. He would have to retire, then other words followed.. Anger swelled in the striped tom's chest. He was just supposed to die? To not be saved? But as he thought, with what little consciousness he had left, the more it made sense. If he died.. if he lost his first life then.. His leg wouldn't be in that condition. He would be useful to his clan again at the cost of a life. His first life.

The leader tried to relax, but with the pain it was hard to do so, but the thought of facing death helped him be more at ease. He was accepting his fate, but it didn't make it any less terrifying. Dying the first of nine times.. It couldn't be easy.. If it was like this every time he was sure he would lose his mind long before then. Eventually the breathing from Tigerstar slowed, his body stilled. He was dead.

"It's a shame your first life had to go like that."

Tigerstar's eyes flew open, as the tom bolted upright. Green eyes coming to meet yellow ones as Ploverpuddle stood in front of him on the star lit territory. As soon as the striped tom was aware, he turned back to look at his leg.

"You will not see it from here, but your body was very broken. It is taking some time to heal." The fluffy gray tom said. "Those twoleg contraptions are monstrous. They leave them for creatures to step in, and if they are forgotten about, the creatures are often left to die. " The warrior explained. "Based on the state of that one.. it was left, hidden for some time. Probably from when Twolegs walked your land many moons ago, when you were a kit."

"I... I don't recall seeing any. I thought we cleared them all out." Tigerstar stated, getting to his paws.

"I am afraid not." The warriors tone was sad. "Even Starclan is not certain how many may linger around the whole forest. Twolegs are beyond our understanding" Ploverpuddle let out a sigh, before perking up. "Oh! It seems our healing is complete. Your body will not be fully healed. There still will be some pain, and wounds, but your future medicine cat will take care of that." The gray tom dipped his head. "Take care."

Tigerstar opened his mouth to speak, confused at the last little bit that Ploverpuddle had said, but in a blink he was gone. The moor returning in front of his eyes. The leader shot up, a sharp gasp escaping the tom at reawaking from death. Then the pain returned, causing the tom to hiss out. Green eyes turned to his damaged leg, to see that it still bled but not as severe as before, then he looked at Hemlockfox. "Now what?"

Hemlockfox tensed at the brief flash of indignation and fury in Tigerstar's eyes, but just as quickly as it had come, it left, replaced instead with a sad sort of understanding. He didn't care much for any WindClanner, but it was good to see that this one had some sense in that head of his despite the situation. If it had been a SkyClan cat at his paws, Hemlockfox may have attempted to soothe them in their final moments, but this was Tigerstar he was looking at. They didn't know each other and, even if they did, the older tom had plenty of lives to spare.

Slowly, the tabby began to go still, his breath growing erratic and shallow. Hemlockfox blinked calmly as the last breath left Tigerstar's maw and he waited for a moment, wondering how long it would take for the leader to return. He'd seen it once, back when Mottlestar had lost a life but, this time, it didn't seem to take as long. Even now, he could see the gruesome injury beginning to stitch itself back together. He'd been too panicked to see it when Mottlestar lost a life, but he'd just been frantic to prevent all-out war. Not that it had done any good - war had come anyway.

With a sigh, the medicine cat pawed nervously at the bundle of cobwebs, blue eyes trained on Tigerstar's still body. All too suddenly, Tigerstar bolted upright, drawing a surprised hiss from Hemlockfox. Shaking out his pelt, the tom regained his composure and regarded Tigerstar cooly. He seemed much improved now that StarClan had brought him back, but, not fully healed. Whatever. With a flick of his tail, the brown and white tom crouched down beside Tigerstar's wounded leg and began gently wrapping it in swathes of cobwebs. "I'm going to take you back to your camp." He muttered eventually, once he was done.

It would do for now, but Tigerstar would need actual herbs to get that leg to heal right. Ugh, did WindClan even use the same herbs as SkyClan? He couldn't imagine much grew here, among the heather and rocks. "Get up now, you can lean on me." He meowed, standing and turning to offer his shoulder for the leader to rest his weight against. "I didn't see Daisyfang at the half moon meeting, but I trust she can take care of you on her own?" He added, slanting a suspicious glance Tigerstar's way. If she was still around, that is. She'd been...quiet as of late.

Tigerstar let out another his as he stood, not really wanting to try to test his injured leg even with the webs on it. Of course the other medicine cat had to bring up Daisyfang.. Tigerstar couldn't help but let out a sigh, probably sign enough to the other but still Tigerstar spoke up. "I will tell you about it when we get back to my camp." His tone was slightly bitter, after everything he went through today, he didn't know how he was going to get better.. He really should have learned more from Smallstar before the tom disappeared.

The leader didn't linger on it too much more, he started to progress forward, leaning on his Skyclan companion, and guiding them back to camp at the same time. It was going to take a bit, considering they were on the edge of the border, but it was better than bleeding out. "Thanks.." The striped tom grunted out, he knew he should at least show some appreciation for the medicine cat.
