Under the soft glow of the moon, Echosong, the youngest medicine cat of Thunderclan, stood before the entrance to the apprentice den with a bundle of herbs at his paws.
“It’s time, Littlepaw,” Echosong called into the den, he had warned her earlier in the day that he would come to get her when the moon was rising, “It’s time.”
His tail swished gently as he waited for her to emerge, “Eat these, they will keep you strong and focused on our journey.” He mewed, the taste of his own herb bundle lingering on his tongue.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times.
Littlepaw was unsure if she'd be able to contain her excitement for the entire journey. The chance to speak with StarClan at the Moonstone was something that every apprentice looked forward to, and she was no different. There was an uncontrollable smile on her paw as she padded out of the apprentices' den to meet Echosong outside.
She eyed the herbs with interest before leaning down to lap them up. "Oh, yuck! Sorry, I mean, yum! I mean... thank you." She stumbled over her words as the unpleasant taste of the herbs danced around on her tongue and descended down her throat. Hopefully the aftertaste wouldn't last longer than a few heartbeats. Littlepaw attempted to mask her disgusted expression as she looked back at the medicine cat, "Okay! I'm ready, now."
Together, they ventured into the depths of the forest, their pawsteps muffled by the carpet of snow beneath them. The night air was cool and crisp, and perfect for the journey.
As they walked, Echosong found himself filling the silence with conversation, simple things: asking her favorite clan member, how her training had gone. He of course would bring up his rock collections, and his apprenticeship under Briarrose before he became a medicine cat. The tom had always loved telling apprentices about how he was kidnapped by Twolegs, brought to the Cutters where he had to live with Nightstar and a few others, which led to their daring escape. It always made him feel cool. The tom struggled to keep from echoing certain words and he hoped it hadn't bothered Littlepaw. In recent moons with the stress he found himself echoing much more than normal.
Eventually, thay arraved at Highstones, the man made clearing bathed in moonlight. "We're here, stay close, close, it's dark and the tunnels are extensive." he meowed before they entered the tunnel. It was cold, a shiver running down his spine as they descended, the only sounds were their breathing, their pawsteps and a soft drip of water coming from somewhere deep below them. The tunnel opened up before them and a soft glow emitted from the Moonstone.
It sat in the center of an open room about the size of three Two-leg monsters long and wide. It was large, spiky and shimmered with a faint, otherworldly light.
Echosong gestured to it, "As you know, this is the last step before you become a warrior - besides your naming ceremony. This is where your journey truly begins. It can be overwhelming, remember to breathe. Touch your nose to the stone, and you will meet with Starclan in your dreams." he told her, "When you wake up I will be here, when you wake up."

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times.
Littlepaw gratefully engaged in conversation with Echosong as they headed to the Moonstone. She was glad to have some sort of distraction from how nervous she actually was. She had never met StarClan before... well, she supposed most cats her age hadn't until now... but she had no idea if they would be kind and welcoming or harsh and rude. Everything seemed fine until they were actually before the Moonstone, and the reality set in once again. She had no idea if she was more excited or nervous, but she still hesitated for a moment before pressing her nose against the cold stone nonetheless.
For a moment, there was nothing, but she was in for a shock once she opened her eyes. StarClan was much bigger than she could've ever imagined, but that was to be expected. They were super ancient and probably needed a lot of room to run around and be holy or whatever. She looked back and forth expectantly. "Did I go to the wrong place? Foxdung, that's really embarrassing." The she-cat called out into the open forest before sitting down.
"Hey, Littlepaw," came a voice from behind. A light-hearted, playful tone; and as the one who had spoken moved in front of Littlepaw, she revealed herself to be a small black cat whose pelt glittered with stars. "I know what you're here for... But is there any chance I could get you to help me with something while we talk? Nothing big, promise!" She winked at the much younger cat. "I just wanna play a little prank on someone."
Then, with a pause. "Right, you're probably a little lost. Nice to officially meet you! I'm Batbite, once a cat of ThunderClan--and, for a very short time, its deputy. Not as prestigious as some others, but I'm still pretty proud of it."
