Subject: Stagkit's Apprentice Ceremony Sat 3 Feb 2024 - 5:30
As most bodies began to stir in their nests Sablestrike slipped out of the warrior's den. It was time for another day to begin, but before he began assigning warriors and apprentices alike to their respective duties he needed to wrap up one more ceremony. This would serve as Shadowclan's wake-up call for the day. The deputy gave a nod to the warriors that had been assigned day watch before ascending the Jaggedrock and calling out to his clan.
"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"
As the dawn broke and the first rays of sunlight pierced through the canopy of wintry clouds above them, Sablestrike’s call echoed through camp, summoning all cats to gather beneath Jaggedrock. Stagkit, who was still waking up, greeted his siblings with a playful nudge, his excitement contagious as he asked them about their day ahead.
Unaware or perhaps indifferent to the significance of Sablestrike’s next words, Stagkit’s mind was filled with simple pleasures - the presence of his family, the scent of last nights fresh fallen snow, and the promise of a new day filled with a new adventure.

As shadows began spilling forth from different dens Sablestrike fixed his gaze on the nursery. The stream of kits all hoping today would be the day they were made apprentices was heartwarming really, but as it stood only one of them would receive that honor today. The brown tabby immediately caught Sablestrike's eye, though he allowed the young tom to mingle for a few moments before calling him forward. "Stagkit, please step forward."
"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to begin your life as an apprentice. From this day on until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Stagpaw. Your mentor will be Leopardstar. She is a dutiful cat that works tirelessly for her clan. I know she will pass this trait onto you and mold you into a truly excellent warrior." With any luck Stagpaw could distract Leopardstar from the loss of her mate. It was small, but hopefully it would deter the molly from her self-destructive tendencies.
He was tuned out of the announcements, expecting nothing but duties being assigned, needless to say he was taken aback when his name was called. Sure he was expecting it any day now, but…not that day!
He jumped to his paws, quickly grooming down his fur before sauntering up to the deputy, a grin on his maw.
Six moons, yes! Warriorhood, yes! STAGPAW! YES!
Now for the part of the ceremony he was looking forward to most, his mentor! Mama was taken, Silver was taken, Quillsplash was Hedgekit’s mentor. Who would be hi-Leopardstar?
His eyes widened and his heart raced with excitement. He felt as if the air was charged with energy, he had been waiting for this moment patiently. But now it was here and Leopardstar was to be his mentor! He hadn’t interacted with her directly, but he had always admired her commanding presence and way she obviously cared for her clan. The tom hadn’t seen her around much since the wolves had attacked, and he understood why.
As he stepped forward to touch noses with Leopardstar his eyes shone with excitement, unable to keep it in he then turned to his siblings with a grin. Now they were all apprentices together!

Leopardstar blinked, somewhat surprised to hear her own name called. It wasn't a bad thing, or at least she didn't think so; it had been a while since she trained an apprentice. It would be good to refresh her memory, and hopefully she could prove a worthy teacher for the newly-named Stagpaw.
She stepped forward, touching her nose lightly to his. "Congratulations, Stagpaw. We'll begin at twilight tomorrow--for tonight, go and get settled in the apprentice's den and celebrate with your Clanmates."

Hedgepaw had known that the next ceremony would be soon--but her ears still perked forward in anticipation when she heard her last brother's name spoken by the deputy. It was almost strange for them all to begin this new phase of their life, all of a sudden, but it was wonderful that they got to do it together. "Stagpaw! Stagpaw!" she called happily, running over to tackle the tom. Her size, much smaller than his, meant that she didn't even come close to pushing him over with her full weight. Still, she offered him a smile and a purr. "Leopardstar's your mentor? That's so cool! And now that we're all apprentices, we can go patrol together!"

Hearing Sablestrike's voice summoning them when he was still picking the wisps of sleep from his brain made Silverhawk want to grimace, but when he realized it was the deputy calling the Clan together, he tamped down any half-awake grouchiness. Stagkit's ceremony was due to be soon, and sure enough, this was his. Silverhawk looked around, realizing with a bit of dismay there weren't many--if any--cats present he'd trust with his sibling's education, but then Leopardstar's name was called. Briefly, he felt a pang of jealousy over how he would've killed to be the leader's apprentice once, but... at least now his name wasn't soured with connection to Nightstalker. Leopardstar was a far better leader, and one that would make a fine mentor. Joining Hedge and their parting leader, Silverhawk knocked brusquely against his big-little brother's shoulder. "If we take you all out at once, you'll cause such a racket we won't get anything done." Silverhawk looked between them warmly, a smile finally pushing up through the lingering face of sleep. "I'm looking forward to it. Good job, Stag."
They all looked happy about Leopardstar being Stagpaws mentor, and Wolfpaw didn't really get it. She didn't do anything interesting. Had a special name, but she just looked miserable. Well, if Stagpaw and the others were happy, then so was he! He supposed.
"If we're too loud, we'll scare everything away," Wolfpaw's voice came in from nowhere, just to the left of Silverhawk. "Which is good I guess... We won't have anything to fight. But then, everyone will know we're scary. Hold on. Stagpaw, we're sparring now like apprentices should."
Directly after Hedgepaws sad attempt to knock Stagpaw over, Wolfpaw practically threw himself at his brother.
Almost all of her children had earned their apprentice name now that Stagkit had become Stagpaw. Pineblossom was grateful when Leopardstar was named as his apprentice. Stagpaw could be a bit naive still, with the brightness of a kit still instilled in him. She wanted someone who would teach him about the real world while not squashing that brightness. Leopardstar felt like the perfect choice.
She joined her family who was congratulating Stagpaw, and she joined in with a low purr. “Congratulations, Stagpaw. I can’t wait to see what warrior you grow into during your training. Leopardstar will teach her well. She has been a fantastic warrior for as long as I’ve known her.”
