Subject: Ospreykit's Apprentice Ceremony Thu 1 Feb 2024 - 18:42
Home, they were home. The tall trees and stone that surrounded Skyclan's camp were a comfort after spending so long in unfamiliar territory, and the clan was slowly making the camp presentable once more. Wolfblossom had cleared snow off of the tallbranch that she had always used, and now sat perched upon it, gaze settled on the nursery.
It pained her that Paledove had not made it home, but another of her kits was to become an apprentice today. "Skyclan!" She called, "All cats old enough to climb a tree, gathering before the tallbranch!" The smile that was on her expression was no longer forced. They were home. Their apprentices would grow and learn in their rightful territory.

- Ospreykit -
Ospreykit stood near the nursery with the end of a branch clutched in her maw. The camp was still littered with debris, the clan too exhausted to get everything in order so soon after arriving. Despite the journey Osprey was nearly back to her full level of energy and happy to have put the trek through the mountains behind her. The kit’s relief was evident in every step she had taken since arriving. But something still weighed on her, greater than the literal weight of the oversized stick she was struggling to move. She wanted to believe this place was safe, –and of course it was better than those fatal, haunting mountains– but it still wasn’t the territory she’d grown up in. With her siblings earning their nests in the apprentice den she was starting to dwell more and more on her own lack of training. She still spent time with her siblings whenever they were around, begged them to teach her all the moves they’d learned from mentors and tell her everything they’d seen on patrol- but things weren’t the same. Her mother was gone and on top of that her siblings had gone to a new den. It was starting to feel like being left behind
So in her woes, rather than challenge anyone to a millionth game of mossball, she’d elected to help clean up camp. She worked alongside the apprentices and warriors, those who were expected to actually have responsibilities. And she proudly demonstrated this motivation to any cat who looked her way. All for a good reason, of course. If she proved herself to Wolfblossom and Birdstar maybe they’d fiiiinally realize she was ready for apprenticeship. She needed to be ready, in case anything followed them from the lake- in case anything threatened her family ever again-
The kit’s head shot up, dropping the stick she’d clenched between her teeth. Golden eyes swiveled to the tallbranch as Wolfblossom’s voice cut through her troubled thoughts. The tabby stared frozen for just a moment before she was off and running like her tail had caught fire. Had her plan actually worked? She imagined curling up to sleep tonight, nest wedged safely next to her littermates' once more. Ospreykit couldn’t stop that fledgling scrap of hope from taking off into full blown anticipation. She leapt over obstacles and dodged around clanmates until she skidded to a stop in the snow right up front of the growing crowd. Settling down as neatly as she was able to when it felt like bees were buzzing under her pelt, the kit’s fluffy tail waved a signal beacon to her siblings and Honeypaw. She wanted them right by her side when she became an apprentice.

Wolfblossom had spotted the kit with a stick in her jaws near the nursery, and the sight brought a soft smile to her face. Even some of their youngest were trying to help the clan, and that was a good sign. It was past time she became an apprentice and Wolfblossom thought she would do her clan proud.
"Ospreykit, step forward," She called, waiting for the kit to do so, "You have reached the age of six moons old and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From now until you have earned your warrior name you will be known as Ospreypaw, and your mentor will be Stormwatcher." Wolfblossom dipped her head to the tom in question. He had been helping a lot lately with the kits and Honeypaw, she thought he and Ospreypaw would be a good fit.

Myrtlepaw Apprentice | Skyclan | She/Her
Myrtlepaw followed her sister to the front of the crowd and sat down beside her. "I'm sure you'll become an apprentice today." She mewed as she rasped her tongue over one of Ospreykit's ears, "The den feels empty without you." She turned her attention to Wolfblossom as she began to speak.
Myrtlepaw could hardly hold in the excitement she had for her sister when her name was called. 'Ospreypaw, I love it! She thought with a smile. Discord: ChaoticCrow | Timezone: Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) | Code (c) Kieer

- Ospreykitpaw -
Ospreykit smiled softly at her sister and let the tension in her shoulders soften a bit. It was reassuring to know she wasn’t forgotten. Turning to Wolfblossom she listened intently to the deputy’s next words.
Ospreypaw. An ecstatic grin broke out over her face. Finally! She couldn’t wait to move to the apprentice den today and get back to her siblings. They could train together now too! The clan’s cheering voices accented the scenes playing through her mind of adventuring alongside Cricketpaw, Myrtlepaw and Yewpaw as they learned to be Skyclan warriors. And Stormwatcher would be the one to teach her! She bounced forward without hesitation, tilting her head up to touch noses as she’d seen other cats do when they were apprenticed.
Wolfblossom must have been paying more attention than she’d given her credit for to pair them together. He’d always been there for her after Paledove died, finding ways to cheer her up even when it felt like her heart had frozen over on that cold mountain journey. She’d started to consider him another caretaker and friend alongside Honeypaw. “I’m really glad you’re gonna be my mentor.” The new apprentice beamed up at him sincerely. “Just promise you’ll teach me all your coolest moves!” She laughed, letting the joy of the moment wash over her. There was one more cat she wished could be here, to experience the moment with her, but she knew if Paledove was somehow watching over this celebration it was from far, far above. All Ospreypaw could do now was stay by her siblings sides and hope to make her mother proud.
Yewpaw had been one of the first to gather for this meeting and he yowled the loudest he could for his sister. It was finally her turn and she deserved it! Stormwatcher was an interesting tom. I wonder what Paledove would think of him - would she approve? Now that he had became an apprentice, he attended these ceremonies with excitement as opposed to dread. I wonder if Ospreypaw felt the way that I did? Irrelevant now, thankfully.
After the ceremony completed, he ran towards her with a wide toothy grin. "About time, Ospreypaw! Congratulations!" He teased, headbutting her shoulder. "The apprentice den wasn't the same without you. Do you need help making your nest?" He offered, flicking his ear. He recently discovered how nice it was to put bird feathers in your nest, and he wanted to share the wisdom.
Stormwatcher for once in his life was actually on time for a meeting. It was because, he had a decent guess as to what this would be about. Ospreykit was long overdue to become an apprentice and he did not want to miss that for the world. So as soon as his older 'sister' announced the familiar words he was there for once and glanced at her.
He sat down and waited. Moments later, Ospreypaw was officially named sending a wide grin on his face. He was about to cheer very loud. However, then something happened that the tom did not expect.
Him?? His name... Huh?
Moments later and Ospreypaw had bounded over to him and they touched noses as was tradition. He blinked a couple times shocked by how fast his friend was growing. It felt like just yesterday they had played mossball and he had shown her silly little magic tricks.
He gave another long glance up at the deputy and raised on eye. As if to silently say... 'I see what you are doing... clever wolf'
He purred a bit and nodded.
"I'm really glad to be your mentor too! ... and yea all the coolest moves

Cricketpaw purred with genuine joy as her sister was named. They were all together again, as it should be. She stepped gracefully into the warm huddle of her littermates, now all crowding Ospreypaw and offering congratulations. She pressed her pelt against Yewpaw’s and reached over to rub her head under Ospreypaw’s chin. “Congratulations, you can make your nest close to ours. Myrtlepaw and Yewpaw are right, it hasn’t been fun without you.” Her voice was a stark contrast to the rowdy joy of her siblings, quiet but no less fierce in its admiration.
Her mismatched gaze was bright and vibrant with her overflowing affection. She followed her brother’s line of sight as Stormwatcher approached their little huddle to speak to his apprentice. Unfortunately for him, Ospreypaw was her sister before she was his apprentice. Her eyes cooled slightly as they slid over him, darkened in judgment before the emotion was whisked away like a passing cloud, as if it had never been there at all. She didn’t like the deep sincerity in her sister’s gaze when she looked up at the older warrior. It was too open, too trusting. It was asking to be hurt. She wouldn’t let that happen.
The fluffy tabby and white she-cat slunk back a little, as if trying to hide from Stormwatcher, camouflaging herself in the confusing tangle of her littermate’s matching fur. Aside from Myrtlepaw, they were all white and tabby, but the subtle patches of ginger tortoiseshell in Cricketpaw’s fur echoed the ginger in her other sister’s pelt. Her eyes skittered nervously from the towering warrior to the apprentice den, as she ducked her head as if overcome by shyness. Her favorite mask was back in place, just a fragile little sister, horrifyingly soft and delicate in the face of a harsh world. A reminder to be catious. A reminder that they needed to take care of each other, that no one but kin could be trusted. It was them agasint the world. There was no room for outsiders.
The apprentice leaned up to Ospreypaw’s ear, voice dropping to something just barely audible. If they weren’t so close it would be easily lost to the shuffling of the crowd. “Stormwatcher seems terrifying, I'm glad you're braver than me. I bet you’ll be the strongest apprentice in the clan.” She leaned away and flashed her littermate a timid smile, before gently bumping her shoulder towards the apprentice den. “Let’s go make you that nest so you have somewhere comfy to sleep off all this excitement. I know Yewpaw makes the best nests anyway.”
