Mallowkit's Apprentice Ceremony

For all the stress of the last several moons, Skyclan continued to grow. The journey through these cold and snow-filled mountains wasn't a pleasant one by any means, but apprentices ceremonies provided a much needed break as well as reason to celebrate, and Wolfblossom would never tire of them.

"Let all Skyclanners old enough to climb a tree gather before me for a clan meeting!" It was with a smile that she called the clan together, eyes searching for the next kit she would call forward.

Honeypaw

Honeypaw had just gotten back from a quick hunting patrol, a small mouse dangling in her jaws. When she saw the clan gathering, she quickly dropped off her prey at their makeshift freshkill pile and bounced over. Energy had been flowing through her lately as Paledove's kits had begun to be apprenticed and she had more time to rest. Sunfire had halted his training sessions and Brackenpaw - the thought of her brother sent a thorn through her heart - was not yet accounted for. Honeypaw found herself having more leisure time than she'd had as a kit, and she couldn't decide if that was a good or a bad thing.

Honeypaw found her way to Shatteredsky's side among the gathering cats. His apprentice, Myrtlekit, sat with him on the other. Honeypaw shot each of them an optimistic glance with her pale blue eyes as she settled herself and drew her attention to Wolfblossom. So many kits have become apprentices lately. Who will be next? Her eyes found those of Yewpaw's, sitting a little ways off with Mallowkit. She was happy to see that the two had bonded closely during their travels. It reminded her of her bond with her own siblings.

It wasn't long before she spotted the kit, along with Honeypaw and several of her clanmates gathered before her. With the necessary cats here, it was time to begin. "Mallowkit, step forward." The deputy waited until the kit had done so before continuing, "You have reached the age of six moons, and so it is time you become an apprentice. From now until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Mallowpaw. Your mentor will be Stoneheart."

It felt like she had only just started to recover from her illness when the beasts had attacked camp, and then the clan was fleeing into the mountains. She had recover enough though, it seemed, and the cold air wasn't bothering her as much as it had. She was simply grateful to be out of her nest and back to somewhat normal, so when Wolfblossom called a meeting Stoneheart padded closer and sat among her clanmates, quietly watching as Wolfblossom called another kit forward. Stars, but it seemed even as life kept hitting Skyclan in the face, they still grew. It felt like there'd been a ceremony every day for the past week.

The stoic she-cat had not expected to hear her own name called, but she hid her surprise in typical fashion. Standing, the fluffy gray warrior padded forward, gently touching her nose to Mallowpaw's. "Hello there, Mallowpaw. We'll begin training soon." She mewed softly. Truthfully, Stoneheart wasn't sure how these unfamiliar mountains and the near constant travel would lend themselves to training... But they would make it back to more familiar territory soon. They had to. In the mean time, she would do what she could to make this work.

Honeypaw

Honeypaw's eyes lit up when she saw Mallowkit get called up.
"Mallowpaw!" she cheered, "Mallowpaw!" Honeypaw was excited to have so many apprentices to train with now. Had they remained back at the lake, the den would surely be full by now! Honeypaw looked up at her brother Shatteredsky, realizing that she might not be too far from being a warrior now. I don't want to think about that right now, she decided, getting to her paws to go greet the new apprentice.

"Congratulations Mallowpaw," she mewed, flicking his ear with her tail playfully. "I guess that means I don't have to look after you anymore," she said, with a hint of sadness. "All of you are grown up now. And now we're apprentices together! Isn't that great?" The sadness dissipated and was immediately replaced by her usual optimistic, energetic self. "I can't wait to train together!"

Yewpaw released a soft squeak as the snow hit his face. He had been daydreaming about the new territories and Paledove was there, too! He immediately shook his head to clear the icy sensation and turned to see Mallowkit, mischief dancing in his eyes. "Hey!" He yowled. How could you do this to me? With a fake pout, he rose to his paws to dish out punishment - and then he heard the call. He shot a confused glance at Mallowkit and obeyed - gathering near Wolfblossom. Was this for Ospreykit? He approached these meetings with excitement now that he was an apprentice, instead of dread at being left behind by his littermates.

His jaw dropped when he realized it was, in fact, for his best friend. Yay! His eyes sparkled with excitement. All of the possibilities! They'd be able to train together. They'd be able to sleep in the same den together in the new territories! He bounced excitedly as he ran to Mallowpaw. He probably interrupted Honeypaw a little, but he couldn't hold it in much longer. "Congratulations!" He purred as he practically slammed into Mallowpaw, nuzzling him and giving him a quick lick on the forehead. "We'll get to train together - all of us!"
