Laurelkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Mistyrain sat atop the Tallbranch, a place that still scared her a little, even though it wasn't her first time to call the Clan together. Still, it was exciting to be in charge of such an important part of Clan life. She enjoyed giving kits their apprentice names, the first step in their journey to becoming a warrior. With this thought on her mind, she called out loudly, "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!" Cats began to file into the clearing, and she scanned the crowd for Laurelkit, the one who would finally become an apprentice today.

Laurelkit peeked her head out of the nursery, staring wide-eyed at all the cats. Do I really have to go out there? As much as she wanted to finally become an apprentice, she dreaded standing up in front of the growing crowd. Come on, it'll just take a few moments and then you'll be an apprentice. Laurelkit finally pushed herself out into the clearing, walking forwards to stand under the the Tallbranch. She fidgeted nervously but still waited patiently for the ceremony to start.

Mistyrain, eyes trained on one kit who was settled among the rest of the Clan, began the ceremony. "Laurelkit, please step forward," she called. The kit looked nervous, so she nodded reassuringly. "Laurelkit, you have reached the age of 6 moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Laurelpaw. Your mentor will be Tawneyfur, and I hope that she will pass down to you all that she has learned." She leaped down from the Tallbranch, joining her Clanmates as they called out Laurelpaw's name.

Laurelpaw shrunk into her pelt as her new name was called, wishing to run away from the crowd. Where was her mentor? She strained her neck, trying to look over the taller cats. Tawneyfur... the name sounded familiar. Laurelpaw vaguely recalled a small she-cat, but couldn't remember exactly what she looked like. Would she be a good mentor?
