perfection is found in accepting your imperfections

Tawnyshadow caught wind of the dog a little too late. She had only began to notice it when hunting at the outskirts of the Clans, and even then she'd brush it off since they'd be moving anyway. But it kept coming back, stronger and closer each time. It came to a point that she knew she couldn't ignore, but at the same time she didn't dare approach Sablestrike and Leopardstar when she knew how busy they were, keeping the Clan together. Finally, she gave in, and approached the deputy. She kept the conversation as short as possible, and thankfully he didn't pass much trouble to her. She was to take Quillsplash, a rather new warrior of rogue origins, and Swiftheart's adopted son. Simply because it was her friend's son, and only kit left at that, Tawnyshadow didn't say a word about his bloodline. She woke the tom early that evening, before even the sun had fallen, and together they set out in search of this dog that were trailing them like a starving puppy.

It took a bit longer than they had expected, but at last they found it. It was a huge brute, just slightly smaller than the wolves that they had watched terrorize the camp back at the lake. Tawnyshadow felt nervousness flutter in her chest, wondering if she should go back and report to Sablestrike first, then hopefully gain a couple more warriors to help take this creature down, but she realized too late that the direction of the wind had changed. The dog had caughter their scent, and it's furious eyes snapped towards them, glowing with a dangerous hunger that knew no bounds. Beside her, Quillsplash took a step back, bristling and hissing as the dog approached them.

Tawnyshadow crouched down, and charged forward, leaping to face the dog heads-on. Her claws scored it's muzzle, the force knocking it backwards. Where was Quillsplash? The urge to scream at him to move bubbled up in her, but to her surprise the tom was surprisingly swift on his paws. The tom charged forward and gripped the dog's tail in his mouth, then yanked backwards roughly. The dog yelped as it crashed into the ground, and Tawnyshadow felt confidence surge into her once more. Maybe they'd have a chance with this dog afterall.

Everything I say is a lie, but they’re the only things keeping me alive

Quillsplash was scared when he first heard he was to be join Tawnyshadow to hunt down a predator. He had never fought a dog before, or at least not one that hunted cats. The yapping little white furballs at the twolegplace didn't count. Still, he found no excuse in refusing, and surely Tawnyshadow was experienced enough to know when to retreat. When the fight began, they still had it in control. There was nothing, nothing, that could go wrong. At least, that was what he told himself. Fighting next to Tawnyshadow, he couldn't help but feel safe. Her each blow was well-aimed and sent the dog stumbling backwards. Compared to her, he might as well be play-fighting. As Tawnyshadow darted in to deal yet another blow, he forced himself to try matching her, lashing out at the beast's cheek. Blood stained his paws, something that reminded him all too well of that incident. He blinked his eyes rapidly to try and push the mermory away.

Too late. He was back to when he was a kit, paws soaked in Copper's lifeblood, raspy breaths filling the air. The sound of struggles for air where there was no throat to take it in. The blood that washed his white paws crimson, thick liquid sloshing as it just kept trickling down, the sound of it grating his ears. His breaths came in short gasps, almost as if his body was trying to match that of his mothers. The being that had brought him to life, and was meant to watch him make use of that life. Somewhere in the distance was the shrieks of another cat, screaming a name foreign to him. "Mama?" He asked gently, moving his heavy paws forward to shake the fallen body, nudging it as if it might suddenly move again. Maybe there was a way to start it's breathing again.

.
.
.

He was shaking Copper, until he wasn't. Until he was shaking a silver tortoiseshell's body, whose entire body was drenched in blood. Until he could feel blood coating his belly fur and dripping down his face. The body beneath his body was shaking, struggling to breathe. It was all too familiar. Tawnyshadow? Tawnyshadow! Quillsplash recognised his clanmate's face with a start, but to call it a face was an overstatement. Half of it was drenched in blood that ran down her face like a waterfall. One eye was shut, while the other yellow eye was unfocused. It took him for a moment to understand what had happened, but once he did the fear came back like a wave crashing down on him. He had zoned out, and Tawnyshadow had- wait, where was the dog? There was a growl close to his ear, and his head shot up to see the hungry eyes of a black-furred beast. He took a trembling breath, easing off of Tawnyshadow to creep backwards. No. No no no, NO! This couldn't be happening! Panic, quick and untamed, rose up in him, and from then on he didn't remember what he did at all.

There was a blur of fur, distant howls echoing through his ears. His body was moving, lunging forward in pure instinct. It was as if he had stepped behind a barrier of fog and was watching the scene of blood unfold before him. His claws were digging into something, ripping it out until he had carved out a wet hole, until the solid flesh beneath his paws had turned into wet sludge. There was a moment when he felt as if he was swimming; his fur had become soaked with water, dragging him down to the ground. Standing upright became increasingly difficult, and eventually he stopped, his body crumbling beneath him as he fell down, chin hitting...

...bones. The impact startled him, jerking him up as if he had awoken from a slumber. He was coated in blood, tortoiseshell fur turned a dark crimson. The body before him could hardly be recognised as a dog's. It had been torn to shreds, fur and flesh ripped out at every angle. A creation unlike any other, borne of pure terror. Some parts of it had been turned to mush, and as Quillsplash stood up on trembling paws, he realised that bits of it had clung onto his fur. Vile bile rose up in his throat, and before he knew it everything had come out of his body. His body heaved, trembling as it emptied itself of its contents. His head felt light, as if it might detach from his body and float upwards.

Quillsplash took in a deep breath, gulping down the air as if he might die. When he was finally steady enough on his legs to walk a few foxlengths, he turned to the limp body of his clanmates. He had to take her back, before she died again. The thought of ending her life like he had done for Crowspirit flashed through his mind, but when the she-cat suddenly moved, struggling to rise to her paws, he knew that he wouldn't be able to get away with it. Quillsplash stumbled forward until he was beside Tawnyshadow, letting the she-cat lean on him. From all the blood, he couldn't tell where the wound was, but if she was still able to stand, there must still be some hope for her. His paws moved forward, one at a time, back towards ShadowClan.
